The wolf is my favorite animal out of all other animals in the entire world. They're absolutely beautiful to behold, and their resilience and abilities that allow them to survive (humans not counting) in such a myriad of places demands much respect (from afar). I feel that one of the main reasons the wolf is so adept at survival is a combination of said abilities, but also the fact that they operate as families that work together to ensure survival (and watching them care for their pups is just heartwarming) is inspiring. I actually like to think that if humankind could just come together and work in tandem with each other, rather than bickering over nonsense, we could accomplish anything, just like how wolves have continued to survive to this day, as one big pack.

Canada placed a bounty on wolves in the late 1700s and they were hunted to extinction in New Brunswick by the 1880s, Nova Scotia by 1900 and Newfoundland by 1915. Their population began to rise again, so in the 1950s a Canadian government backed eradication program was imposed due to a decline in the Caribou population. 20,000 wolves were shot, poisoned, trapped etc. The bounty program was stopped in 1971 because they were again near extinction levels. Even today roughly 15% of the Canadian wolf population is "harvested" annually. Canada controls its wolf population just like every other country. The only thing somewhat unique about Canada is that the wolf population fluctuates a bit more, because there's still so much undeveloped wilderness. But let's not assume the moral high ground and pretend as if some idyllic symbiosis between wolf and man is occurring in Canada because that is not the case.

Had a pet wolf growing up (it's legal in my state). My father did very well with training it and honing its aggression early on. She ended up being a gentle giant that our whole neighborhood came to love. One of the funniest memories I have is my 5'7" dad getting on to the girl for chasing deer in our backyard and she stood up and put her front paws on his shoulders, looked at him and started licking him in the face.

I could understand if it were for pelts back when we used pelts for things but nowadays there really isn't any reason and those that do hunt them are generally assholes with no regard for life. Deer, Moose, and other such creatures you can use for all sorts of things, the pelts, the antlers, and of course, the meat. But who would eat a wolf? It would be like eating a dog. And the meat I'd imagine is probably really gamey, not good at all.

Humans and wolves, before we invented farming, fill the same niche in an ecosystem as we have roughly the same social hierarchy and are both pack hunters for large game and solo for small. These are the strongest reasons why humans and wolfs took to each other and eventually ended in us having dogs. Could also be why we are so enthralled by them as they are very much like us in our most early ways.

I love wolves-the problem is the yuppies who do not live or hunt here. Wolves dominate every place they live in. Problem is the interference of humans. Instead of natural boundaries-people put in roads. When wolves are exposed to roads-no natural boundaries-then they wipe out every herd, bear-they do what wolves do-dominate. Ungulates are wiped out. If they are not controlled mayhem. Yes-wolves dominate bears. They hunt in packs and harass the mothers with cubs-they will kill the young bears without mercy, young deer-wolves are amazing. I live in Ontario, Canada. My neighbour's son was killed by wolves in northern Ontario. You can easily find it on-line. He was followed by the pack, and they closed in from behind. He was hunted, no rabies was involved, just plain old wolf hunting when they are hungry...

The “last” wolf was killed in Denmark in 1813. 🇩🇰🐺 The wolf returned in 2012 from Germany. 🇩🇪 The first pair was established in 2016. The first eight pups were born in 2017. A young female was shot and killed on camera in April 2018. Four of the pups walked to Germany in March-May 2018.

The Mexican Wolf has been reintroduced into AZ, USA over the last few years and apparently are doing well. A few Jaguars have even made their way back into the US via AZ. It would be great to have the wolves repopulate and the Jaguar back in larger numbers. Wolves are amazingly beautiful creatures with a certain mystique to them.

@@C0nuree hunting wolves is highly regulated and done to remove those that are rabid, have otherwise attacked/killed people or are decimating either wildlife or livestock. it is otherwise illegal to kill wolves in the lower 48. most wolf hunting occurs in Canada. fyi people hunters are responsible for the majority of the money that comes in for wildlife conservation. less hunters means less wildlife parks, less wildlife conservation and more species becoming extinct because hunters want the animals to continue existing wheras latte sipping liberals are just virtue signalling.

Sara and Ricky are from a littler of eleven puppies that were born on January 28, 2006. My brother had two wolves, Ricky and Rocky. Rocky died on election night, last November. He weighed around 130 pounds. He was huge. He was the sweetest, gentlest creature you ever saw; if you can believe a 130 pound wolf can be gentle. Rocky wasn't very timid around people, but Sara and Ricky are . It just sickens me that people kill wolves for sport, and then think they are so tough for doing so..."Hey, I just shot a wolf from a helicopter. I'm a mighty hunter." I always hope the helicopter will crash and then the wolf will kill the hunter.

@@SacredAbyss Those hunters are the only reason the wolves are around. The government doesn't have enough money invested in bringing back the wolves. It requires subsidiary funds. Those hunters pay a premium for the license and tags. Funds that go directly to helping the wolves and the parks to run. Without the hunters you "wolf lovers" love so much but fail to support, they'd never have come back in the first place.
