With deer it makes more sense bc they're so populated they propagate disease with large population. But the reason they are so numerous is bc of declining predator space who require much more land to survive(food chain energy transfer declines towards the top). So really human buck hunters have displaced the role of the wolves and coyotes. Unfortunately its just how it is. The real way to solve it is reforestation

It seemed I was throwing away money. I disconnected the cellular phone about six years ago. I no longer needed it for work because they assigned me a walkie Talkie to talk on the grounds. It is so hard to have any kind of telephone when you know nobody and have no family.

If I understand correctly, the wolves were licking that guy's head because they were trying to groom him, just as they would other members of their pack. Even wolves in sanctuaries are not "safe" it's very important to remember that behaviors you see as cute are normal pack interactions. Licking, showing of the belly, etc are behaviors you will see when watching a pack interact with each other. If you do something they don't like they will just as quickly show you that deep growl that one was displaying at the end.

They were demonised by livestock ranchers because they would take their animals from time to time. At first only the ranchers where combating them. That was until some rancher decided to portray them as evil, blood-thirsty, hellbent on devouring human flesh, devil-dogs. Then the rancher's job got a bit easier when the public did not want to be eaten by Satan's dog. There are probably still people today that believe Little Red Riding Hood is based on fact. I actually share my life with an Arctic wolf. I love him. He is my good boy.

Wolves don't eat humans, they're actually scared of us (like most wild animals that share history with our species, like small bears). The fact that they could get this close to the wolves in itself is amazing, since if they don't run away from humans, they're likely to defend their territory, and they're literally as big as a human so that wouldn't end well.

Rob Soergel - Their common ancestor lived over 35k years ago. Far as I’m aware, we don’t yet know what that animal exactly was or what it even looked like. However both the modern wolf and domesticated dog are vastly different to their shared ancestor. Dogs aren’t even that close to wolves genetically as once thought. They are more closely related to each other than wolves. Any genetic similarities seen today was found to be from interbreeding. So I’ll repeat. My dog or any other dog on the planet did not “come from this amazing creature” as you so laughably put it.

When I was in high school in Colorado I’d volunteer at Mission Wolf, and wolf conservation center that rescues wolves that had been used in movies or sold online as pets. I miss my big wild doggos. Though they were basically as friendly as any dog I’d ever met. Fun fact: When meeting a wolf, smile as wide as you can, baring your teeth- they’ll come up and click teeth with you, it’s like a handshake.

If you’re going to keep a wolf you will need a massive yard and no matter what it will still get stressed and lonely because it won’t have a pack and won’t be able to roam for miles per day like they usually do in the wild. If you want a dog that looks like a wolf, try the Utonagan! They are dogs specifically bred to look like wolves using huskies, malamutes, shepherds, and other breeds :)
