The bmw N62 was also horrible and should've been on this list before the N63. That top mounted coolant transfer pipe with that "matter of time" o-ring was just a flat out stupid design!

Here's the trick and the answer. Don't buy a car with a turbocharger. High induction is the killer of most engines, no matter who they are..! If you want to avoid tge problems, get a naturally aspirated engine vehicle. Yes, we have a 2010 E92 BMW N51. But it's a naturally aspirated 3.0L motor, or the bread and butter of the BMW world..with now 225.537 miles and still going strong. So if your looking for the real BMW name do what is right. And save your bank account.

Except Saab! Owned one, with a 2.0 Liter turbo charged engine and 160 HP manual transmission. Saab was quite successful and reliable with their turbo charged engine. If you treat them carefully, you won't have any issues with it. Still quite a few cars out there on the second hand market with high mileage on their engines. GM as an American car manufacturer, never understood the European car market, that's why SAAB eventually didn't survive and had to be buried. Not so with Opel. Stellantis,a french car manufacturer ,bought Opel from GM, and Opel has been doing fine ever since, because the French learned something from the Germans and the other way round: Germans learned something from the French.

Almost all 1995-2005 PSA diesels are million km engines, especially the 2.0HDI is unkillable.

@@daniel.s.stefanov true, but look at the gas engines... The thp/tfsi engines are all crap. Which is a shame, because the cars don't really rust and have nice interiors.
