Dr Phil..... My one MAIN issue with him is how he dealt with teen mental health. Never a guest. I was dealing with major depression in my teens. Well, he would go around spouting off the symptoms of teens doing drugs and not give any type of disclaimer that those symptoms could also indicate mental health issues. As a result I was drug tested twice a week (always negative) and didn't get type of mental health treatment until my mid 20s after multiple unaliving myself attempts.

@SpideySensey you're right. There are reasons why I didn't but I'm not here to make excuses. The important things are I've never done drugs and I'm still getting help. But that doesn't help 13-17 year old me when my PCP and school counselors were calling for me to be in therapy. But Dr. Phil said I was on drugs. (And the one time I told my mother that I needed psychiatric help. She told me to stop cutting or the cops would take me away forever.learned my lesson not to tell her anything again.)

Phil has always rubbed me the wrong way. He always struck me as a narcissist, only out for himself at the expense of some very vulnerable people, including children. I went to a treatment facility where Phil sent a lot of his guests, and the stories they told about how they were exploited cemented my disgust for him. Granted, this was a very good tx facility and the people I met there generally benefitted greatly from treatment. From what I understand, a lot of the “treatment facilities” he sends/sent people to were absolutely awful and caused even more trauma for the patient/guest than they already had when they arrived. But I was in tx with 4 addicts who had been sent there by Phil, and every single one of them said that the show provided them with their drug of choice and strongly encouraged them to partake and get as f’ed up as they could before going on stage so they would show their ass to the entire world. Many of them needed treatment initially focused just on getting past the betrayal they felt from a so-called doctor to even trust the therapists enough to open up and help them. Disgusting.

I never watched the show on TV (though my grandma would) but I remember some eps shown on KZbin. Idk if they were "the worst" as someone who never saw the show, but they were...Idk. Some where hard to watch? 1. Someone was being catfished; Fooled into thinking that they were gonna meet this man from out of country and giving him money. It was a much older woman too, so it was iffy to consider that this woman was gonna see a much younger guy (or honestly just someone she didn't know in general! Like she didn't know internet safety). 2. Another trouble teen, and this one was like...Begging and crying to not go to the ranch. Though I'm not sure if she was staging it or not; The girl seemed very entitled, didn't want a job, all that stuff - so idk if that was as much as a teenage tantrum or if she actually did a lot worse. I don't remember the girl's name or what she did. It wasn't anyone shown in this vid, though. 3. The "Trigger Warning" episode made me super mad, as someone who needs these since I'm very squeamish. It's not "censoring the world", it's just warning people with genuine phobias and things like sex repulsion that "hey, this image contains spiders; Look at your own risk" or "this contains graphic violence and abuse; Proceed with caution or check out my other art instead". It's not trying to "coddle" or "baby" the world - it's a genuine thing that I'm glad I learned about since I didn't know about things like trypophobia and I have a ton of designs with multiple eyes! 4. I feel like any time a trans person comes on, he disrespects them, like to get a rouse or to "entertain". It's not funny, it's disrespecting someone. I don't know if he's anti-trans, but it bugs me when he does that, seemingly on purpose. I get it, the world shouldn't "cater to anyone", but if someone kindly says "oh, I'm a trans woman", I'll respect that and refer to proper pronouns. You don't have to accept it, y'know? 5. Apparently the whole "not even being a liscensed doctor" thing. Yikes, why are you lying? Especially since I've not seen too much "help" from someone who's claimed to be a "psychiatrist"...

Never believe anything that's shown on TV as it can be easily edited to create conflict/inaccurate facts depending on what the message the producers want to show the audience, it could omit or include things that could defame the "guest's" integrity. It solely depends on what the editors/producers want us to see, to decide who is right/wrong with-out the viewers knowing all of the facts. Dr Phil is not a nice man.

The way he conducted his interview with Shelley Duvall (among others) was disgraceful and exploitative. There are times in that interview it almost sounds edited - as if she were answering questions from earlier in the interview and her responses are being mixed around to make her sound even more incoherent. As for Hannah and Bhad Bhabie, they’ve suffered too much for people not to believe them. Turn About Ranch and places like it are just more forms of human trafficking and should be illegal. Kids only get hurt in places like that

Anyone remember the “Teen City” episode? He had a group of random teens make a hypothetical city together and assign each other “jobs” just based on appearance. These so called “jobs” included things like “single mother, prostitute, and homeless.” It was really weird.

What did it for me was an episode where a woman was talking about her struggles with a mystery chronic illness. She had been describing all of her horrible symptoms and dr. Phil basically sided with her family who all thought she was making it up. When he dramatically read a test result live on air that proved that she actually DID have something wrong with her, his face said it all. He was ANNOYED. He couldn’t even apologize about gaslighting her the entire episode, he was clearly more upset that the narrative of his episode had been ruined. As someone who dealt with mystery chronic illness as a teen and had previously been a fan of dr. Phil, I was so disgusted, I stopped watching altogether.

Dr.Phil is such a horrific human being between defending the genocide in Palestine and supporting Trump, as Bhad Bhabie says "kick rocks".

De. Phil is a quack and a horrible human being. In the earlier seasons, I think he did actuslly care about guests and tried ti help, but then the fame and money changed his focus to pure exploitation. He's worse than Jerry Springer. At least, Springer never pretended the show was about helping. It was clear from the start what his goal was. Dr. Phil did the same level of explotation, but under the guise of "helping."

Initially, maybe the first 5 or 6 seasons were *very informative and educational.* But pretty soon after that they turned to blatant *sensationalism* , exploiting anyone and everyone who'd appear on their stage.
