Very nice Top. A kind of addictive, but since it's once per year I think it's an ok addiction! I have some games in my wish list just from watching this. Some times I think, how your Top would be 30 years ago? Maybe it's an idea for a video, your Top 10 or 20 from the past, if your brain still has that data stored :). I bet it had Uno and Monopoly!

Love this channel and its humor and great reviews. I only know Castles of Burgundy and Scythe on this list, which are very good games, but would not be in my top 10 either though they are very high rated on gameboard geek.

I agree with you on Stonemaier Games. There was a period when they just kept hitting it out of the park. I, too, have Viticulture, Scythe and Tapestry. All great games with a wealth of supported expansions. I am not blown away by games like Wingspan and Libertalia. They're not bad games but maybe the publisher is a victim of its earlier successes and the weight of expectation that carries.
@captainimpulse8 күн бұрын
Libertalia is a great game, but was gutted into a soulless husk of its former self. Pick up the original if you want a quality game. And Wingspan is completely trumped by Wyrmspan in all categories. Also, mad respect for your user name.

@Mozicon8 күн бұрын
Yeah, I'm a bit surprised because Apiary, Expeditions, and Wyrmspan are absolute bangers.
@leadhead698 күн бұрын
My issue with their designs is that they either get stale after a few plays because you can min-max the games very quickly, or they're just not as interesting as other games in the same space. Like, Scythe is so straight forward that you can pretty easily tell who is going to win purely based on their faction and starting spot, and that is not an ideal design IMO. Wingspan devolves into laying eggs in the last few turns, Apiary often falls into the same main actions over and over, etc. I'd say all of their games are "fine" 7/10 games, but space is limited and I'm not wanting to collect "fine" games.
@captainimpulse8 күн бұрын
@@Mozicon Is Apiary good? The theme was completely uninteresting to me. Wyrmspan was a hit in our group (moreso than Wingspan), but Expeditions was a miss. Scythe is still a favorite of mine, though.

Thank you for all you do towards the board gaming hobby. You are a knowledgeable and honest person. Hard to come by qualities in this day and age! You are the equivalent of Jeremy Clarkson's motoring journalism but for board gaming. I don't mean to detract from your individual talent, rather to say you are a bloody fantastic comedian who also knows his subject matter. O, and since subscribing to your channel, you've cost me a bomb! In fact my new Carrooka table has just been delivered - last few minutes. All your fault. Stop making such bloody good recommendations. May I wish you and your family a very happy board gaming Christmas. Thank you for welcoming us all into your home via KZbin. That actually sounds a bit creepy though! Really really appreciate your work. You frequently make me laugh out loud. Here's to facing you off in a manor et manor carrooka match one day. Bless you all.

@aldarez137 күн бұрын
Not much. He's still around, and his company, Stonemaier Games, is still putting out popular titles. One could argue they've moved away from high-quality eurogame designs like Viticulture and Scythe and more into the realms of chasing mass-appeal after the success of Wingspan (and I'd be inclined to agree). Still, even if they aren't quite reaching the heights they once did, they rarely put out a *bad* game. You could do much worse for your money than recent Stonemaier releases.
