1:12:06 - As someone who loves Res Arcana, it's precisely for gamers that enjoy engine building but also appreciate minimalism. I'll play the digital versions of Terraforming Mars and Wingspan precisely because the set up, tear down and turn speed is much faster. But for real-life play, Res Arcana gives me that engine-building feel but it's lightning quick and easy to teach.
@GrandElemental3 жыл бұрын
I like Res Arcana a lot more than Wingspan tbh. It manages to do a lot with a very small component pool.

Same. It gives me that feeling but tighter and quicker. I adore res arcana
@MartyKane2172 жыл бұрын
I like Res Arcana and I feel like Chris and Mike didn't fully understand it when they dismissed it as "just another engine builder". The thing that makes Res Arcana mind-bendingly different is that you're working with a fixed deck. If you go into it expected to build cards like in Race for the Galaxy you'll be disappointed (this happened to me at first). But once you see it differently it's super interesting and engaging.

I would also add about On The Underground, the publisher was great. I met them at UKGE about a month or 2 before the Kickstarter and they asked people in the Hilton bar for some feedback. I suggested changing the place of the start of the score track. They then added me in the rulebook as the score track consultant. It is great to show off to people 🤣 I really appreciated it

Furnace has the bidding aspect, does Res Arcana have anything like that? I mention this because doesn’t Mike like Furnace which is get card that give you stuff to trigger other cards. Haven’t played either but just from an outside look at both games, besides the bidding in furnace, what’s any different about the execution of either game?

Decided this year to track the games you all mention according to 1. Games I want to play (w) 2. Games I’ve played (p) 3. Games I own (o) Crossover in this stretch: Tom: (1) #42 (p) Mike: (2) #45, 42 (2p) Zee: (2) #49, 42 (w, p) People: (3) #50, 49, 47 (p, p, o) Totals (this stretch): Own = 1 Played = 6 Want to play = 1 Totals (overall, trying not to count repeats): Own = 15 Played = 31 Want to play = 13 Notes: 1. Want to play can mean I want to own it, I just haven’t played it or outright bought it before playing it. 2. Stopping counting crossovers because if I don’t want to play the game, don’t own it, or haven’t played it I won’t write it down and may miss to count it like what happened with Dixit. Sorry to Dixit. I’ll play it, just not seeking it out. 3. I love Zee but [edit] [edit] [edit] back to normal. I still don’t own a game on Zee’s list. 4. Back to back to almost back lists Mike and I have (1) crossover, made it with two this time; I don’t even know who you are anymore. 5. Didn’t mention last set 60-51 I crossed over with everyone’s 53, the only list to do that. 6. The highest crossover is games played (10) with the People; games played (8) with Tom is next highest. 7. The People & I have (20) total crossovers Tom & I have (18) total crossovers Mike & I have (16) total crossovers Zee & I have (10) total crossovers 8. This is now the least amount of crossovers for a stretch of ten with (8)

Re: Overpower. It's hazy, but I think you could only venture 4/7 cards, and the 3rd and 4th gave cards to the opponent. It was the best part of that game. The balance issue was not really the cards (powers), it was the fact that the heroes' stats were thematically distinct. Ie.Magneto had 8 energy and Jubilee had 6 energy- and there was no way to really offset those advantages. The no duplicate rule worked well to balance the powers, but you were supposed to use deckbuilding point caps for the heroes and it was always too clunky, and prevented you from making all the thematic teams you wanted. I still have my cards and gaze upon them from time to time but don't really play anymore. One of the three CCGs from that very expensive time in my life. Fun that Tom still remembers it so fondly 'cause I don't hear about it anywhere anymore!

The 'Cuphead'(which is almost 6 years old now) comments around Vagrant Song/Townsfolk Tussle are because it was quite a big hit and these games are quite likely somewhat inspired by it. Much more than somewhat for Townsfolk Tussle which not only has the same theme/visuals but it also a 'boss rush' game which Cuphead is as well - if you were going to make a Cuphead boardgame this is it.
