Endless Legend really needs to be mentioned in every conversation about Civilization - it takes a lot of inspiration from Alpha Centauri and adds planet-as-a-living-being and faction stories to the Civilization formula and it's soo good.

Heroes of Might and Magic III! 20 years I'm playing it and absolutely love it. My kids are in it also! Edit: I don't understand why kids in Western Europe didn't enjoi this game as much?

I came to say this same thing. I don't understand how this wasn't included either. REALLY, HOW!? Its one of the only games I can play and then stop and realize several hours have passed without notice. The music is incredible and the game is fantastically in depth, diverse, aesthetically pleasing art and animations. Ontop of all that you get the light rpg system and economics/resource management system that are just great. This game still hold up today and is one of the best PC games of all time.

I just started Gears Tactics thanks to Matthew's videos and I'm really liking it so far. Never tried this XCOM style of game and it's both fantastically satisfying when things work out how you envisioned and incredibly nerve wracking when they don't. Good stuff.

Start with Total War Shogun. It's not a hard game to learn and you will get skills required for both Rts games and 4x Games. Civ is also a pretty easy 4x to get into. Paradox games are... their own thing, Stellaris is the easiest to get into, but Paradox games are for people more well versed in the genre.

@@deniswillson6526 it's very hard. Pro tip, bind the health display button to a numpad number, hold down that number and press numlock. That way the health bars will be displayed permanently. Otherwise you have to hold a button down, which is not ideal!

I really think that Sins of a Solar Empire deserved a spot. It started off immensely strong, and then the expansions took it further. Then the STANDALONE came and doubled the content of all three put together.

I'm really missing Phoenix Point here and it's not even on the expanded list. Xcom style missions (more Xcom then Xcom 2) and an aiming system that let's you attack which body part you want. Base wise it takes more an old school Xcom approach. This all does make sense though because it's by the old creators of the original Xcom games.

Men of War Assault Squad did a better job for ww2 rts game, vehicle damage are done part by part like engine, tire, turrer, crew, etc, better than CoH hitpoint system, and more playable unit than CoH, I dont know why everyone hate MoW
