Amon Amarth is a band that's definetely known for their fast paced tremolo riffs, brutal chugs and masterfully crafted solos but one aspect of the band that doesn't get the recognition it deserves, are the bass lines. Now that the Vikings are back with a ferocious new album, it's the perfect time to look back into the work of one of the most underrated aspects of the band, their bass lines!
On a personal note, Amon Amarth and specifically Ted Lundström is the reason I picked up the bass. Back in 2012, when I was first introduced into the world of @Amon Amarth and more extreme metal in general, I knew that I wanted to be a part of that scene too. I used to watch their Wrath Of The Norsemen DVD's, the Summer Breeze 2007 DVD and the Wacken 2012 among other shows over and over again and the bass stood out to me. After some consideration I decided to buy my first bass and luckily enough, we had one sitting in it's case for almost 20 years in the basement. That bass was my Hondo Fame 870, a mid 80s, PJ 4 string machine that didn't like to stay in tune at all. But it was mine and that's all that mattered.

Thank you! Although I didn't enjoy that album in its entirety because the lack of Fredrik's drumming was really noticeable, this was one of my favourite tracks on the record. Very expressive guitars, great lyrics and a fittingly heavy outro!

I consider myself really knowledgeable on their discography because over the past 12 years I've been listening to everything they've ever released and yet I missed many songs that had great basslines. Every time I was sure this project was completed, I'd be reminded of another song and would have to learn it, record it and shoot a video for it. Thank you Alex! If I'm not mistaken, I'm currently using the Ernie Ball 2850 Super Long Scale strings. For all my covers what I've found to work best for me is Darkglass V7K plugin into the Gallien Krueger MB150 bass head and cab from Amplitube 5, and some rudimentary EQ. I also use the Amplitube compressor pedal but that's about it. I like keeping it simple enough since I'm no sound engineer. Thanks again! 🤘🤘

How did You found the bass? I search but I don't found anything

It's a one-off, made by Grosmann Guitars. There's no photos of it around because to my knowledge only 2 or 3 exist and all of them are completely different from one another. The shape of the body and headstock are the same but the specs always differ. For example mine has fanned frets, Delano pups and pre and a flamed maple top. The other one that I've seen, belongs to Terry Butler of Massacre, SFU etc, but has normal frets, EMG pups and different woods. It's a good bass for what it is and although I'd like to own a Dingwall at some point, this does it's work perfectly. Haha, thank you! I wanted to only use the songs that contained audible bass solos or parts where the bass took a more upfront role. The only one I'm aware that I unfortunately missed is Victorious March.
