Hair! Especially if you have a style with lots of upkeep (blonde, extensions, wig installations, etc). I spend hundreds of dollars on my hair every few months and it caught me off guard every time😅

Love these tips. As a parent, just a general "misc school fees" instead of field trips. Things like school pictures, field trips, pizza parties, and clothing (my kids wear uniforms and it never fails that we lose something or they outgrow it and I'm buying more mid year).

Really trying to make this budgeting thing feel less negative and traumatic and your videos always make me feel better about money. Bonus points for being seen as a fellow ADHDer who impulse buys on the dang regular. 😅

I just want to say that you are SUCH a breath of fresh air in the personal finance space. I am a personal finance junkie and am definitely financially secure and don’t watch and enjoy personal finance content to necessarily learn anything new. But I love consuming it and I’ve been watching Caleb Hammer a lot recently since he uploads so much but I’m becoming SOO irate with his perspective. Like I’m so sick of him yelling at people because they have debt and then giving “not official financial advice” that is so strict and back and white and then acts like the person is worthless since they aren’t jazzed to follow this strict plan of “absolutely NO fun for X months or years” until every penny of debt is paid off and they have a 6 month emergency fund. Like that is not how human nature and psychology work. Plus, in relation to this video, he always maps out these supposed budgets and doesn’t account for much of anything in them and somehow someone making $2500 a month with $1200 in rent has $800 extra to pay towards debt like every single month. It’s like how?? Utilities and groceries and and car maintenance and insurance and car registration comes up every year and on and on. And then he just tells people to invest in a fund that mimics S&P 500… without any mention of risk tolerance, time horizons, etc. whew. Didn’t mean to completely rant like that. But with all that said. Your so reasonable and caring and understand the holistic picture of peoples lives and how diverse things can be.

Also: - Banking fees - coffee if you tend to take out coffee a lot - any holiday that takes place throughout the year (at least I always spend way more on food and partying and/or presents than in any month without any holidays) - virus software for your computer - printer ink (if you have a printer ofc) - depreciation costs of your passport and driver's licence - random acts of kindness

I had a line item in my budget for my running app, which renews yearly. I was fully on track to save up for it ... and then I saw the app was offering a Boxing Day sale, where you could get a year's renewal for 40% off. And THEN I saw that there was an extra discount for buying two subscriptions at once! So I moved a little money around in my budget and funded that category in full, and bought two subscriptions for less than the price of one! Now, when my subscription expires at the end of this year, I'll just use one of those subscription codes I bought (and ditto, for next year). I was really happy about this - because I already had the yearly renewal on my radar, when the sale came up and I could see what a price difference it would make, I was all over it.

My daughter is a Senior in high school. I had to add to my budget senior pictures, graduation stuff and supplies for a party.

💰- one thing I’ve added to my budget is gifting! I love paying for things for my friends and would always do it even if I didn’t have that money. Also another one is tag renewal. I forget which month it’s in every year 😅

Renewing vehicle registration 😑 Also this will depend on profession but I have sinking funds for licensure and certification fees that I have to pay yearly as well as continuing education 💵💵💵

So let's take car repairs for example. This money you set aside, do you keep it in your bank about or move it to savings and keep track of it there? I'm having a hard time with this. I see my bank account and I'm like whoa, I have this. But on my excel sheet, I don't. Which would be hard for my husband to always understand

I use separate high yield savings accounts for things like this! I like using a bank where you can name the account for what it is. I have one called “Emergency Fund”, one is “New Car” and then one is “Car, Travel, Gifts” which is my sinking fund one for car insurance/registration/repairs and then obviously travel and gifting. I use YNAB and I have categories that I always make sure reconcile with the account balances.

💰💰 Venmo has been a life saver for field trips and pizza parties. 🤣 I can't tell you the amount of time the child has forgot to tell their parents, or the parent didn't read the SERIES of emails. 💰🤣
