6:40 planes are allowed to be 1000 feet apart from each other which is likely why "no action was needed." it only seemed super close to the passenger because they're not used to seeing that, but planes go under and over each other all the time and it's completely safe.

First, There was a runway literally right next to them that has a bunch of signals and lighting that an airport would have Second, They should have heard a sound of an airplane loudly if they were that close to the plane Third, they continued driving even if the plane was right in front of them Fourth, there would have been stop signs or traffic barrier of some sort in front of the airport. The Air Canada video where they show the plane coming in and almost clipping the tail of a plane, they left one thing out. This incident was addressed in another video. They almost hit the planes because they almost landed on a taxiway. It really wasn't an issue of landing on the wrong runway. It was an issue of not landing on an actual runway.
@fastfiddler16254 жыл бұрын
The Air Canada at SFO one was not a wrong runway. They were lined up to land on the taxiway, not any runway. It was the waiting pilots who came on the radio and said it looks like he's lined up with C with the tower subsequently ordering them to go around.

@kremenamicheva12202 жыл бұрын

@unchico47426 ай бұрын
yeah there was a lot of space between those aircraft but in aviation that is seen as a near miss coz safety is first and that distance is not safe. Just imagine if there was an emergency right at that moment forcing the pilots to land. Maybe an Engine failure or bird strike it would be so difficult for the pilots
@boahneelassmal6 ай бұрын
@@unchico4742 This still isn't a near miss, really. Runway incursion, yes. A phone number to call, absolutely. This is a category C runway incursion. the FAA states runway incursions are "most dramatically referred to as near misses". This incident here is not "most dramatical". The argument of the emergency is - at least with the examples given - not much of a problem. one engine out is perfectly fine to fly, take-off and go around with. In Europe it's also not uncommon to receive your landing clearance at this height above ground.
@dx14504 жыл бұрын
That Air Canada landing at SFO incident needed to be explained a bit more. The flight was cleared to land on runway 28R (28 right) as 28L (28 left) was closed and unlit since it was being worked on. The pilot thought taxiway Charlie (to the right of 28R), where all the aircraft were lined up and ready to take off, was 28R and that 28R was actually 28L. So he had lined up to land on taxiway Charlie. He even asked the tower if there was traffic on the runway because he saw lights, and the tower replied that the runway was clear. So he came in for a landing on Charlie and basically pulled up at the last few seconds. If he had waited just a few seconds more it would have been an air disaster that would have dwarfed the Tenerife disaster.

Correction of the Air Canada incident: The aircraft (Air Canada 759) aligned with Taxiway Charlie (TWY C) instead of Runway 28R, and there are four planes holding short. Philippine Airlines 115 turned on the landing lights to alert AC759, and the first plane on the taxiway, UAL001, noticed the issue as well and contacted tower, and the tower issued a go around to Air Canada.

Since people already corrected most of the mistakes, I'll add a note on the cessna vs. SUV. While the SUV was obviously driving in a restricted area, the cessna should have cleared the fence by 50ft (distance at which the plane is supposed to clear the obstacle even on short landing). Proper landing technique for single-engine piston is slightly steeper than jets, to be able to still make the runway in case of engine failure. That cessna was way too shallow on approach.

@SilverIchimaru2 жыл бұрын
It likely is, but try explaining that to the average person who knows basically nothing about aircraft. I thought nothing of the stunt as the pilots clearly knew the plane but I know any number of people who would freak out if they saw that and assume the worst. Same when you see other planes in the air that 1000 rule has them freaking out. I think the only time it didn't cause a yikes reaction was because they were fighter jets overtaking us. People were to busy cooing over the fighters to care. Honestly, if I'm gonna be nervous about it I'm going to be more wary of the fighters than the equally loaded down jumbo jet. Those fighters can cover 1000 ft far faster than we can and they are much smaller and easier to lose visually.

You do not pull "Gs" when you are flying straight and level even if it is only 6 inches above the ground.
@joeylantis224 жыл бұрын
He probably meant to say when the pilot pulled up he experienced the "Gs". In other news this video is FULL of errors, including saying the Golden Gate Bridge was in Los Angeles, so take it all with a grain of salt.

You've got the Air Canada incident at SFO wrong. It wasn't the wrong runway the pilot was trying to land on. Why would a runway have 4 planes on it just sitting there? The AC flight was mistakenly lined up to land on taxiway Charlie when one of the pilots on the ground called the tower and said "What's this guy doing....he's on the taxiway...". ATC in the tower ordered a go around. It was not a wrong runway incident at all.

6:40 all modern planes (and definitely commercial planes) have the TCAS, an automatic anti collision system. The planes look close but they must be within specific margins, otherwise the TCAS would have automatically order BOTH planes coordinated evasive actions. There is no way 2 planes can come too close at cruise altitude.

The Dublin-Lisbon "near miss". Passenger planes flying in opposite directions use what's called "vertical separation" At lower altitudes it's 1000 feet, at higher ones 2000 (or also 1000 in RVSM). When cruising, usually all planes have their altimeters set to 1013.25 hPa, meaning, in the same region, they all have the same reference, making it virtually impossible for them to fail to maintain said separation. Neither a near miss, nor an unusual event.

Years back when I was probably in college, I was sitting in the plane, but can't recall if we were in the air or on the tarmac. I just happened to be looking out at the O'Hare runway. There was a plane on the runway facing one direction and another was descending from the opposite direction to land where the first plane was headed. Next thing, the plane that was landing went full throttle and rocketed back up. I didn't fly often and figured it was common because I saw it and wasn't a regular flyer..

Number 9 is a very very common occurrence, often times aircraft are flying along what we call airways, these have specific minimum enroute altitudes and directions that you must follow. There was no danger as they were above 18000 feet and in contact with atc, plus the person recording’s aircraft is almost 3 to 4K feet below the 747. Well within legal limits
