Maybe it’s pregnancy hormones but I’m literally in tears watching this because I feel like you’re exactly who I needed to have in my life right now. Done having babies and still watched! We loved the pampers swaddles and Huggies natural wipes too! We used our swing and bouncer about the same amount. Used a sterilizer maybe twice then decided it wasn’t realistic. Diaper warmers sometimes dries out the wipes. And loved the same sleeved and sleeveless blanket things.

I don’t think I could’ve said it any better! I’ve been SO overwhelmed on all baby registry things/ knowing what’s worth the investment and what’s not. This is my first baby and I’m due in January. My sweet sister has been asking for my registry to post on the baby shower invites so the pressure has been intense to finish it!! This video just made my life 10000000000x easier! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience after 2 babies. Especially with big ticket items. Thank you for cutting out any fluff and debunking the need to have the fanciest/most expensive items. You’re a God send ❤keep doing what you’re doing- I’m definitely a subscriber now

When I was pregnant last year I read somewhere that all a baby actually needs is a safe place to sleep, warmth, and food. Everything else is for the parents’ comfort. It helped me keep things in perspective and not think oh I need to get this and that to be a good parent. Don’t get me wrong, parents’ comfort is important, but it’s also extremely relative.
@kathybumblebeeАй бұрын
Totaly agree. I was stressing because I didn't feel prepared enough, I hadn't bought everything yet and hadn't researched enough and my midwive told me, all your baby needs the first week is you. You don't even need cloth, you just keep it to your body and Wrap both of you in blankets. Helped me a lot to relax (and we had plenty of cloth, don't worry)

My best advice for a highchair is to get a really good, nicely made of real wood high chair that you can use for all of your kids, and then pass down afterwards. I lived in Michigan at the time and got a highchair handmade by the Amish, and that highchair is the greatest quality, and I will use it for my grandkids as well.

I’m due with my first baby in June 2025 and omg, the sheer amount of baby products is wild! My strategy so far is to start with a list ahead of time off the top of my head instead of choosing from a massive list created by a website. This way, I hopefully won’t get into the mind game of deciding if I need some obscure item that was only invented 10 years ago. My philosophy is that if a mother didn’t need it 100 years ago, I should have a clear reason as to why I would.

I liked the button ones as well because you can open it as far as you want for diaper changes, and I felt like they fit baby longer than the zipper ones. Just a note! If you have a baby with reflux, you might need more burp cloths and sleepers. With my first baby, we had to do laundry twice a day every day just to keep up with the amount of clothes he would soak through. And that was with about 10-15 sleepers on hand! Hopefully no one has that problem, but don't feel bad if you do ❤
@paigeriley43442 ай бұрын
We are going through that same thing right now with our second baby. She goes through so many burp clothes that I'm constantly debating buying more because of how much we do laundry to keep up 😅

9 months into parenting my first and I definitely agree with this. You need the essentials and everything on the market meets the same safety standards (cribs, car seat, stroller, etc). There is a lot of ‘nice to have’ things but truly our babies only need US, food, clothes and a safe place to sleep ❤

I found this video so comforting! I stressed so much when building my registry and even after my baby was born because I was intentionally not choosing the most expensive items. I felt such guilt and indecisiveness about whether the expensive items were really needed. So much of what you said resonated with me and I feel relief hearing that not everyone thinks you need the “best of the best” version of everything. The dupes are great! Thank you for this video. I am now almost 5 months postpartum and happy to report that my baby is happy with all her items even if they aren’t the same ones all the other moms have 😊

My husband and I hope to have our second baby in 2025! Thanks for this video ❤ Edit to add... this is a long comment - so this is for all the mamas/future mamas out there! YES! The secondhand baby market is insane. We honestly only own a handful of new baby items - most we received used. YES to having a comfortable rocking chair! YES to Halo and Carter's sleep sacks! I also have the Hudson baby brand with long sleeves and love them. YES to not adding baby clothes to your registry (unless it's a specific outfit such as a local sports team). I have gotten about 95% of my sons clothes for free from my local Buy Nothing/Freecycle/Marketplace. YES to prioritizing big ticket registry items. Our high chair sat in our basement in its box for about 8 months. YES to the inexpensive, squishy changing pad over a cold, hard one. There was one thing in your video that made me go "no, I respectfully disagree" lol. Personally, I felt like I could never have enough burp cloths! I ended up using them often while nursing (because reusable nursing pads did NOT work for me 😅) I also would go through multiple a day because I couldn't deal with the spoiled milk smell 🙃 I got the Baby Jogger City Mini 2 stroller. It's good, but I wish it has a bigger basket! It's not big enough to fit my whole diaper bag in 🥲 Having a washable/easy to clean diaper bag is also super important to me! Diaper thoughts... Millie Moon and Rascal and Friends are our favorite (they run slightly larger). I just get Millie Moon from Target when they have a promo like, spend $100 on diapering items, get a $20 gift card. The only diapers I particularly dislike are fragrance diapers (I found Luvs were the most fragranced) Target and Wegmans brand diapers worked fine for us. Pampers baby dry run a bit smaller than Pampers swadlers. Huggies are good, but I don't like that they have a double velco thing going on. At the end of the day, they all do the same thing. Pampers aqua pure wipes are my favorite, but Huggies natural care are a close second. The Target brand works too, but I find they dry out faster. I feel like I've learned so much about baby products with son, but I'm sure there's so much more for me to learn!

You're probably the only person I have followed for such a long time and continued to look forward to seeing and I kind of think of you like my virtual friend/only slightly older sister. I am pregnant with my first (a girl) and have just been thinking I'm so bummed Jess isn't pregnant right now and that her girls are getting older bc you are the only person whose taste I consistently share and can trust but I know you're at a different stage right now with kid stuff. I literally had that thought like a week ago as I have been having so much dread around creating a registry and I had a lot of suspicions about certain things not being worth it/even needed and you confirmed them all. This is so timely for me. I'm currently at my daughter's house to help her out with her newborn, who is 21 days old today. I'm only halfway through the video as I comment. Have to go get showered while the baby is happy. The Snoo looks insane! My daughter was given a Fisher Price vibrating bassinet that is about $130 retail. Her sister in law is done having babies, and was able to pass it down. I've been here over a week and I'm pretty happy with their bassinet! If the baby is on her way to sleep, the massage mode knocks her right out. That is fancy enough. They got a hand-me-down crib as well. They live in a national park so they needed a rugged stroller that can handle uneven dirt paths with tree roots and things in the way. I thought I might get my own like it for when they visit, because we might want to take the baby hiking in the hills where we live. But I'm not spending $500+ on a stroller! They can bring theirs from home when they come to Granny's house lol. I'll have to get back to the rest later because I'm still figuring out what is worth getting for my house. They live six hours away by car so if I can have things at my place, they don't have to pack as much. I think a high chair for sure. Possibly a portable crib. I have a big rope basket for toys started in the living room, and a little library of board books going. I do have a car seat for my car. It's the kind that faces rear, switches around to front facing when the baby is a little older, and converts to a booster. I think they have to be in some form of car seat or booster till age 10 in my state, so that seemed the way to go.

The likely reason you could not find the Fisher Price swing is because it was recalled due to suffocation risk associated with the headrest and body support insert. However, of the 5 deaths it has caused, The U.S. CPSC stated that in most cases it was due to the swing being used for sleep with added bedding material, so it seems if used correctly & with removal of the insert and headrest it is perfectly safe.

I have the Doona for short trips and the Mockingbird single to double stroller for longer trips and am obsessed with both!❤ and LOVE the Halo sleep sacks both the cotton and microfleece versions! Pampers Swaddlers diapers are my fav as well as Millie Moon. Keekaroo changing pad has been so great for my little guy. I have the large Ayla diaper bag it has sooo many compartments and fits everything and it’s nice my husband doesn’t mind wearing it because it’s not so girly. Also thank God for bouncers or I’d never get anything done! I got the Bjorn as a gift but it definitely does not need to be so expensive - if I had to buy one I’d get a more affordable one for sure. I LOVE the bath tub you posted the price is great and literally is so easy to use! Dries super quick after as well! We have a little guy with horrible reflux only the Dr. Browns bottles work for us to avoid extra trapped gas - we got the glass bottles and they have been so great his burps also seem to come out easier too! We got bottle racks from Amazon! We also have Ergo baby embrace and he hated it at first until he was three months old lol. Just wanted to rundown on things you mentioned 😊

Great video! I'm pregnant with my second. The only thing I would say is it's really useful having a lot of pyjamas and onesies, and even 3 sleepsacks because newborn babies can have blowouts and I don't want to be doing laundry everyday. Also I don't swear by any brand, except the Avent bottles and pacifiers, and the Ergobaby carrier. For my second I only bought: more zipped pyjamas, the newborn insert for the ergobaby carrier and a stroller board so my toddler can sit if she wants while baby is in the stroller.

Expecting my second in a month and this definitely helped me feel more prepared for what we actually need/don't need the second time around. Thank you!

My first baby is due in February and it can be so overwhelming. I spent days researching sleeping bags vs swaddling vs blankets and it melted my brain

One thing I will say about the UPPAbaby is that we lived in NYC when we used it most, and it was a lifesaver. Those wheels are a TANK on the insane roads in NYC and was basically like our car since I didn't have one. Wouldn't need now since we left the city, but was a huge help in the city!

You said comfortable chair and I was like, “Yessss!” That was a surprising must for me with the first baby and something I would splurge on every time!

Baby’s due date was yesterday! Eagerly awaiting their arrival. Mostly settled with our registry and items we purchased/found/received- but always lovely to hear your thoughts. Also such a great reminder that things aren’t over once the baby arrives - fun to take an outing and super easy to order! ❤

The similar videos you made before/ right after having your 2nd were so helpful to me for my baby registry. With my almost 1 year old, my only addition is to your comments about a stroller. One more thing to consider, that we didn’t realize with ours, is make sure it sits up upright enough. Our Chicco feels like it needs one more “upright” setting than it has for our 1 year old to be more comfy, so we’re thinking of getting something else now 😅.

Jess. I found you in 2018 when you were having Gigi and I was having my last baby, through a baby content video. I stayed for the beauty and vlogs. 😊 This video makes me so happy and nostalgic. ❤❤

I'm a nanny. I've used all of these things. I agree with a lot of what you said about them. To me strollers, car seat, crib, and diaper bag are the most important big ticket item to get. Doona is great(I love it) but if you have toddlers then it is kind of inconvenient because then you'll need another stroller for them if you plan on walking a lot. I have a bag that I call a nanny bag that I got from Target. It's called Square convertible backbag, Universal Threads. It is a newer version of what I have. I love it so much that I have 2 in different colors. It fits diapers, diaper cream, wipes, extra clothes, snacks for the toddlers, plus what I need to bring to work. It has cup holder on each side too. So I love that. It is also $35! The bath thing you showed, when the baby is older and is sitting up, and too big for it. You can flip it up side down to cage the kid in. That way, they can play and splash while still safe.

I can’t believe I missed this video on my feed. Had my baby 6 months ago and your last baby video was a game changer. It was so helpful! 🙏 thank you!

I hope you reach some new viewers with this video! In the spring of 2022 this is how I found your channel. I was pregnant with my first and was YouTubing baby registries and one of your other similar videos at the time came up. I now love ALL of your content, especially anything where you and Tyler are together and just being yourselves. I love you Jessica!

My first, I had young. I had a crib, a bassinet, a diaper trash, a pack-n-play, a bath mat, clothes, and burp clothes and a boppy. That was about all.

This is SO HELPFUL! My first baby is coming in June and I am starting to think through these things! We are also moving states in July, so I want as few things as possible for our baby to move! So many helpful ideas here :)

When you talked about the wooden rocking chair I could feel the discomfort from here 😂 I’m so obsessed with the chair we have, I go sit in the nursery just to read sometimes 😂

This helps sooo much! It's my first and I'm trying to fill my registry but I've been uncertain about some items and you helped me to tidy it up a lot, also to show that sometimes I do know what I'm doing when I'm picking things.

I had so many of these exact items in my cart already, which I think shows me I was on the right path. And it makes me trust your other suggestions. Amazing video. Thank you!!! 😊

I absolutely agree with buying second hand, my husband and I made out like bandits at a yard sale recently. A swing for $7.50? Heck yeah! A glider and ottoman for $10? Gimme! BUT. Never ever buy a car seat second hand. Car seats expire, the materials break down during use, and can you really be sure the person selling it isn't lying about it not being involved in an accident? That is the one thing that should always be bought new.

Hi Jess!! Love your videos. I feel like you’re family! I am 61 and my “babies” are 36, 35 and 21. Just watched for fun! I only had the basics for the first 2. That was really all that was available back then. So much more “stuff” when my youngest came along. I loved the wipe warmer but you’re right, it’s not a necessity. One thing I would suggest is a pack and play that has the bassinet and changing insert. Our bedrooms were on the second floor and that was so convenient for me when we were downstairs especially in the beginning. Hope you have a wonderful day!! 😊
