I don't buy Seiko watches myself but I wholeheartedly salute everything Seiko does because it makes Swiss brands to do something about it. I'm grateful for sub $500 Seiko 5 GMT mostly because its appearance on a market urged Swiss brands to drop prices for their own GMT models.
@alphacause Жыл бұрын
I totally concur. Brands like Seiko illustrate how much value and craftsmanship you can put into watches without making the price reach astronomical proportions. For far too long, Swiss watch brands have been coasting on their heritage and prestige, and their exorbitant prices were uncoupled from the value they offered. Brands, like Seiko, are starting to imbue these old Swiss icons with some much needed financial humility.
@Iexpedite1 Жыл бұрын
Seiko has been showing how silly the Swiss watch industry is since the 60's. Their early high-beat movements set fire to the Swiss house of accuracy only to later destroy it with a quartz bomb. The Swiss, no longer the most accurate, had to move upscale to survive. Seiko followed them into the upscale market by adding Grand to their name and pumping up the quality at a reasonable price. Don’t sleep on Seiko….

Problem is their Japanese design. They just don't have the appeal in markets outside of Asia.

15:35 - in reference to the Hamilton - 'I need to contemplate it a little but further because its £820'. This is why Watchfinder is and always will be my favourite watch related channel. Some watches I see on here are amazing - and have amazingly high prices to go with their gorgeous designs, materials & complications. Some KZbinrs will host shows wearing a minimum of £10K on their wrist. They're great and all, but for some a little out of reach. The line I quoted above is the epitome of why I love this channel. They can be in the same awe as us regular consumers at some of the very expensive timepieces out there, but £820 is a lot of money for a lot of people. To hear it from a host on this channel makes it feel as though they're not world's apart from regular peons who struggle to afford £820 on a wristwatch. Let's hope 2023 brings us even more timepieces so your dulcet tones can grace my ears once again 😁

I could listen to you two guys talk about watches all evening. Looking forward to your videos in 2022! As far as the watches addressed in this video, I loved the Grand Seiko Kodo Tourbillion, the Vacheron Constantin 222, and the Christopher Ward Bel Canto. The Bel Canto is amazing for what they have been able to create for a price that makes it available to the average collector. As for the one I love that I can afford, it's the Hamilton 'Murph' (I have a real soft spot in my heart for Hamiltons).

Glad to see the Seiko SKX GMT getting a spot since it is the only watch in the list I could afford & find anywhere 😂 (Well I can also afford and find the Hamilton murph but I don't need a field watch for the moment) May I also name two watches : Seiko's SSC813 or SSC911 (same style, 911 has bigger dial and some detail differences) as probably the best affordable Rolex Daytona alternative, and Longines Spirit Zulu Time for the style, price and true GMT movement. And wish all the watch fans reading this comment a fruitful 2023! Keep watch-ing!

The Cartier may look like a head-scratcher, but it appears to be inspired by the Le Rhone Rotary aircraft engine of World War I fame, a German copy of which by Oberusel powered the Red Baron’s Triplane. This engine’s crankshaft was fixed to the aircraft and the cylinder block and propeller spun around it. Seems to me Cartier liked this design concept and used it here.

It’s a very tough choice if you play the game of …….you can only take one home, and price isn’t a factor . I think the Patek , but it’s a tough decision . Swap the strap out on the Hamilton for something close to the colour of the one on the Patek and you get a not dissimilar vibe, and the Cartier is a beautiful dress watch (that I don’t need) . I don't own a GS and never have, but if price was no object, this GS Kodo would be my pick out of all the watches in this video. As for the Bvlgari and RM, though i respect the engineering...isn't a wafer thin watch a solution in search of a problem? Personally I like the three dimensionality of a watch, to be enjoyed from all angles. Not to mention the fact that an extraordinarily-thin watch would be much more vulnerable to damage.
@balesjo Жыл бұрын
The Bulgari as a watch is not a design I'd want to wear, but it is indeed incredible to see what the engineers were able to create. That said, I find the Cartier even more interesting, in that I keep wondering HOW they are able to create a static display with all the movement located in the rotor. And it IS a watch I'd consider wearing on special occasions. A real conversation piece. And for the Middle Eastern women whose oil-rich husbands might buy them one, the Van Clef & Arpels watch is exceptional both in its engineering and its art. A pain to tell the time, but it's a stunner!
