TOP 15 MONSTERS || ST. URSANNE HillClimb 2023

The legendary St. Ursanne-Les Rangiers HillClimb held in Switzerland and counting for the European Hillclimb Championship featured some proper Monsters this season again, with a mixure of local NA screamers, the European top boys, 800+Hp Lancer Evos, Porsche GT3-R units and a very special visit form a "King of the Hill" all the way from South Africa... this is how they ended up:

Without a doubt (not to take anything away from some amazing NA vehicles), Igor's Hyundai i30N TCR. With much lower power numbers and higher weight than some turbocharged monsters, it came in 5th. Incredible!

Some beautiful machines in there. The high reving NA 4cyls, the intake noise of M33, the driveby sound of the 997.. Was hoping for something more exciting at the top of the leaderboard though - I mean, last year the SLK340 took fricking 5 seconds off this year's 1st place Evo.

Much respect for the guys that recognize the old 70s/80s Econobox cars and put the time in to transform them into mad corner carvers. I'd buy the RS 2000 driver a beer for sure. Wow, that guy was right on the razor's edge! The CRX was a nostalgic nod too. Shoehorning a modern NA engine into them, chef's kiss! That said, the white Ginetta has really grown on me everytime it makes an appearance. Great lines and a real performer. And let's not discount the event location, either! Even people not familiar with Hillclimbs will recognize the famous (infamous?) features in the background of this one. 👍 My continued thanks for the excellent coverage on all of these events for HCM. ❤

the most impressive car to me in this field was the i30. Insanely quick considering the substantially lower power to weight, no crazy aero or wide fenders. You can see from the onboard that every undulation is perfectly absorbed by the suspension, and the car is stable at the very limit. Shows what a great setup and even better driving can do. great video as always.

The usual outlier times provided by Hyundai and GT3 Porsches make no sense. How on earth can the i30 be faster than that monstrous MR2?

Driving skill and track knowledge go a long way ;) But on the case of the MR2 here has more to do with the fact that this was the very first time Pieter Zeelie was doing St. Ursanne and that he had mechanical issues. If his last run did not have to be aborted, he was on the way to be the 4th Fastest in front of Gaetani´s GT3-R.
