I grew up watching these... When I was older I managed a video store. The coolest thing about that job was making friends with distributers and my boss allowing me to order movies at a discount for my home collection. Before Katrina I had over 5000 movies on VHS. Some of the movies I ordered was because I saw them in small late night theaters. This video makes me happy 👍😊

So get this, the Library of Congress doesn't have a copy of the original Star Wars, even though they've been asking for decades, all because Lucas won't give it to them. He's attempted to give them his remasters but they've refused as for it to be eligible for submission it needs to be the original piece that made it famous.

There was a silent movie from the 1920s called Greed. It was an enormous epic that was originally 9 hours long or something like that. It was of course cut down significantly, prompting the director to declare that his masterpiece was ruined. It had a troubled production; much of it was filmed in Death Valley and many of the cast and crew became ill. Nowadays even the cut version is difficult find on to dvd, blu -ray and streaming. There might be clips of it on youtube though.

Yes it was released in 1924 director was Erich Von Stroheim MGM bosses said that no one would ever paid a ticket to watch a 9 hour long film that's why the movie was dramatically cut

And the film was most likely ruined like Eric von Stroheim said. Because it was originally 9 hrs (which I have to agree is a little long for a silent film) but they butchered it to under two hrs. I have seen this copy in a history of film where we watched and discussed a number of silent films. Sunset is a very good dramatic silent film.

I have seen "C---sucker Blues", and that's because the director, Robert Frank does not own the exclusive rights. He co-owns the film with Jagger, who graciously sent us his copy for exhibition at the Los Angles Film Festival. Let's try persuade Mick to have CB released on video; it's pretty tame stuff (groupies, drugs, including heroin' and some nudity) by today's standards.

A "hard to find" movie that I love and hope it gets released/remastered someday is "Some of My Best Friends Are". With a young Rue McClanahan (Golden Girls) and Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers). Both this film and Boys in the Band were so ahead of their time in portraying gay men in something more than a punchline to be laughed at. Instead, dramatic roles with brilliant performances. I remember watching both as a gay young man in the 70's and 80's and realizing I wasn't so different. Although Boys in the Band has recently been remade (JIm Parsons did an incredible job in the remake), "Some of My Best Friends Are" remains elusive.

There's on only a VHS release in 1996 by Goodtimes Home Video and Universal Studios and it can be hard to find. The Secret Life of Algernon, made in 1997 starring John Cullum, Carrie-Anne Moss and Charles Durning, but it's considered a Canadian movie but the story takes place both in Albany, New York and St. John, New Brunswick and it's based on a French Canadian novel. It was shown a few times on Showtime back in 1998 and this was before Carrie-Anne Moss got her huge role in The Matrix Trilogy Lakefront, made in 2002 starring Charles Durning, Peter Falk, Dennis Leary, Goerge Wendt and cameo appearance by Joe Mantegna who directed this movie

Because of an early 2000s change in Federal law dealing with compensating artists for licensing music prompted by digital piracy, Nowhere was never released on DVD in the United States because of its iconic soundtrack. The amount of money required for any production company to license the original songs would make the DVD too "expensive" for them to recoup their initial investment. Though Strand Releasing has very recently re-released the film with excised footage to theaters and a forthcoming DVD and Blu-Ray in mentioned in their website, I don't know if the original soundtrack is intact....

It's cool to hold on to old tapes, but the bad news is that magnetic tapes deteriorate, so you might want to consider digitizing them before the degradation in picture quality becomes noticeable. VHS tapes, like cassette tapes, are a terrible archival medium. They go bad just by existing. This is not necessarily the case with film, if stored properly, but there is not much you can do to restore a steadily demagnetizing tape (not to mention physical damage).

Some of the late Tom Sizemore's lesser known earlier films from the 1990s are hard to find including "Watch This!" (1993), "A Matter of Degrees" (1990). Those two films are impossible to find on ebay or anywhere else on DVD or bluray they are avaliable on VHS or some other format that no longer exists anymore. Which is really sad.

It's bizarre that the segment about "Let It Be" neglects to mention Peter Jackson's much-publicized "The Beatles: Get Back," which was re-edited from the original footage used to produce "Let It Be." The film was released as a sequence of episodes starting in 2021. It may be a re-edit from the original footage, and thus not the actual original film, but this fact at least seems RELEVANT.

A few years ago it had a blu ray release so probably its more common now. A stunning movie that everyone should see.

I’ve never seen a studio that so ardently hates their own film as much as Warner Brothers do The Devils. Pretty odd for a studio who produced & has no issue celebrating The Exorcist to take such offence to the blasphemy in The Devils to the point they refuse to ever allow the Director’s Cut to see the light of day & don’t particularly want to distribute any version of the film period. I don’t really get the hypocrisy. Shame because the film is a masterpiece. The DVD release put out by the BFI though of the X Certificate version is still a cracking release.

What’s more is that if you watch the crowd scenes in the Space Jam Legacy movie, Sister Jeanne makes a cameo appearance as a spectator during the big game. Alongside the droogs from A Clockwork Orange too! It makes you wonder how Warner Brothers view “The Devils” if they can appear in a Space Jam movie, but not a DVD release.

One film that is impossible to obtain a copy of is “Boat Trip” A 2003 comedy, starring Cuba, Gooding Jr., and Horatio Sanz. It had a DVD/VHS release at the time. But it makes fun of every single exaggerated stereotype so everyone involved with the film wants it suppressed so they don’t get canceled for what they did 20 years ago

Another example is the 1977 Director’s Cut for George Lucas’s THX 1138. At the time, it was the closest thing to his vision for the film. Unfortunately, much like the Star Wars trilogy, he refuses to show this version on DVD or Blu ray, so we are stuck with the 2004 cut which has horribly distracting CGI

I have the golden vhs collection of the original Star Wars Trilogy. I had found it at my local k-mart when I had worked there after high school in 2000. I had hid it in my work locker and had used my check from that week to buy the VHS trilogy. I had watched it only a few times and wished to watch it again. But I no longer have a working VHS player (got rid of my old one years ago). I had also gotten Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats on a double VHS at the same time (which I still have, next to my Star Wars VHS).

For those interested, The Devils is in fact available on Blu-ray in the uncut form. It's a private release from Cinema Dream Network. The studio Warner's refuses to this day from giving it an official release, so it will never happen, but they had sent prints out to other studios that contained the cut footage. And yes, it is every bit as insane as you have heard. Also, Ken Russel was forced to make some cuts himself which, of course, are lost forever.
