"Doctor Sleep". Mike Flanagan may Just have taken Frank Darabont's title for best Stephen King adaption. I'd like to see him tackle Stephen King's "Insomnia" next. I think he maybe one of the few people who could actually pull it off.

It's probably difficult for anyone who didn't see Star Wars E4 in theaters in 1977 to understand just what an amazing movie this was. Other movies of the 70s lacked the pace, excitement and technical virtuosity of this film. and it simply exploded onto our cinema awareness when it came out. I was 26 at the time, and it remains the only movie I've ever paid to see 7 times (including bring in all the friends/relatives I could muster). Great #1 pick!

It is one of the best of all time. Most of the films on this list, I am not sure how high the expectation was. This list is more 'unexpected successes'. For honorable mentions, I'd suggest Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (~215M on a 15M budget, ~130m US, unheard of for a subtitled wuxia film) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (~370M on 5M budget). Paranormal Activity (~200M on 215k, with 200k being a new ending) and Blair Witch (~250M on 60k) were also big surprises but that seems to happen more with horror, where something new and fresh is often more important than big budgets or big name actors.
