I have to mention the "In Tapu Fini's Mist" episode from Sun and Moon-where Mallow got to make peace with her deceased mother and Litten(now evolved) got to reunite with that Stoutland-and the goodbye moment between Ash and Brock at the end of Diamond and Pearl. That was the end of a 13-year era at that point.

I thought Ash’s Revival would be higher on the list. Pikachu’s attempts to defibrillate Ash make it all the more heart wrenching because of Pikachu’s desperation to save Ash but also the fact that Pikachu knows how to defibrillate someone meaning he’s had to do it before and doesn’t want to see another friend die.

While I agree with all the moments on this list, I will say that Sun and Moon had a significant number of emotional moments, not just Stoutland and Litten which is still heartbreaking. Here’s a few that stick out to me: Mallow’s relationship with her mom and how she reunites with her mom in the mist. The ending of Sun and Moon as a whole since Ash now treats the region as a second home and treats all his companions there as family. And even though it happens in Journeys, the trauma Lusamine, Gladion, and Lillie went through when they eventually found the father and them accepting Nihilego into their family. 😊 And as a resident XY anime enjoyer, while I am definitely biased, I do think (A) Serena’s emotional breakdown in front of Fennekin and Pancham that led to her cutting her hair to let go of her past unfortunate moments in the contests (B) Clemont shutting down Clemont, (C) Bonnie crying as she sings Squishy’s song, and (D) Greninja leaving could also count here.

Throughout my time watching Pokemon, Pikachu crying always breaks me. It did when I was a kid watching the first movie, and again during the reboot movie “I choose you” and it still does everytime I watch those scenes as a 28 year old man 😂.

I've been watching Pokemon for years, I've cried a few times but no episode made me cry more than One Journey Ends, Another Begins..." Seeing Litten taking care of Stoudland was very heartwarming and Stoutland trying to teach Litten Fire Fang at the time was amazing. But during that episode even I knew Stoutland's time was almost at it's end... Even seeing Nurse Joy talking to Ash about the old Pokemon's condition but not being able to hear cuz the door shut after Litten went in showed that they don't want young viewers to outright hear whats going on but the expressions and body language was more than enough. Then Stoutland passed away and left Litten so distraught and it made me cry ugly. This episode also reminds us that Pokemon are living beings too, not just pets and partners. If you remember the Pokemon Tower's in various games then you'd understand completely.

Litten crying over Stoutland is definitely one of the most impactful moments in Pokemon anime history in my opinion, even though it doesn't make me cry at all (these days, I only cry when I'm really, really, really angry-mad about something, and, to my embarrassment, that's when I act like a child and start bawling, and even then, it's not very common).

I was going to really think Litten and Stoutland's one was gonna be #1 since that was probably the closest I've ever felt to crying in all of my 24 years watching Pokemon since Season 1. But Pikachu's Goodbye was also a very close 1st in my opinion on this list so I'll accept those both as the #1 and #2.

Some really sad scenes for me, and I've probably forgotten a bunch: - Stoutland's death in One Journey Ends, Another Begins, and his attempts to teach Litten Fire Fang despite being on his deathbed. - Memories in the Mist: Mallow and her mother - Any time a Pokémon was released was extraordinarily sad, but there were some that hit much harder than others. I won't get into Pikachu since he was never released, but Butterfree, Charizard, Arbok and Weezing, Togetic, Goodra, and Greninja seem to arouse far more emotion than Primeape, Pidgeot (who thank goodness returned), Lapras, Squirtle, Vulpix, and Ambipom. - Just as much as Ash dying, watching Pikachu get slapped again and again by his clone, and still not retaliate. He was turning the other cheek the whole time. - Celebi's death in M4. - May saying goodbye to Manaphy, even though the movie overall was far from my favorite. - Latios' death in M5 to save Alto Mare and form a Soul Dew - Lucario's death in M8 - Top Down Training and the entire Hearthome Tag Battle arc culminating with Tears for Fears. The amount of abuse Chimchar endured was so heartbreaking, and you could tell it was on the brink of death because Paul refused to heal it or let it rest, and had Torterra, Elekid, Ursaring, Murkrow, and Weavile attacking it mercilessly. Tears for Fears was even more sad, because of all the flashbacks. - Also, I really wanted Brock and Holly to find love with each other, but Holly left without saying goodbye because she wanted to get stronger for Brock. - Memories are made of Bliss, Piplup was so heartbroken to leave his friends, especially Pikachu. - Team Rocket murdering Marowak, Cubone's mother, in Origins. In the Kanto games, NPC's in Lavender Town talk about it a little, but seeing it live in Origins, really really sad. - The whole Fugitive arc in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - After defeating Rayquaza, you say goodbye to your partner, and return to being a human. Needless to say, choosing to remain a Pokémon and being with your partner again is one of my happiest moments - Gengar fails to lift Ninetales' curse on Gardevoir, but finally after he admits his mistakes and pleads Ninetales finally lifts the curse and Gardevoir returns.

The show have done a good job handling emotional themes including death, parting ways with friends and Pokémon and dealing with losing. I would also add The Right Hero for the Right Job with Bonnie trying to free Zygarde from its control and when Clembot sacrifices himself, Memories in the Mist which covers the death of Mellow's Mother, Chimecho's departure, Chimchar and Tepig's backstory when they were abused, Do I hear a Ralts? and The Homecoming Crown! when Lillie and her family reunites with their father.

The only episode of the Pokemon anime series that I cried from was season 22 episode 17 (Alola Region season 3). When this video here is complete, I was hoping to see that episode on that list but in the end, Kanto got the fame of having the most tearful moments. My heart was pounding when I was getting close to the #1 spot but Kanto wins this list. Despite that, I was not disappointed about it. Still, season 22 episode 17 was still a tearful episode. No one talks about Luxray's death... A poor kid freezing outside and Luxray sacrificing himself to save his trainer... When we see it half frozen but looking so peaceful despite he died, when the kid was saved but saw it's Luxray dead frozen, my heart sank. There are a lot of moments that I'm surprised got shafted training from Amber 2's death, everyone dying at the end of the 8th movie, Clembot's death, Alain abandoning Marin after Chespie falls into a coma and many more. But the one moment that should've made this list was the entire premise of Memories in the Mist where Mallow is reunited with the spirit of her deceased mother whom she abandoned before her death after she was repeatedly hospitalized by an illness. To make this episode more depressing, Ash and Torracat are reunited with Stoutland's spirit, giving us full confirmation that he did indeed die.

But there was also one that had this girl talking about seeing the stars all the time and while people thought it was due to the Unown being evil, it was in reality because she was friends with a Cleffa and while they didn't really flat out say it, it was clear the Cleffa had died and became a star. I cried at anything remotely cute as well, like Pinsir and Heracross acting cute in Journeys, but that's me being sensitive to anything adorable nowadays and basically being broken after multiple family tragedies in multiple years in a row.
