Brian May and Red Special, that's a great love story!!
@Pan3optic3on8 жыл бұрын
Quite possibly the greatest guitarist ever. I mean he is a one off and there will never be anyone like him again. So many reasons for this. Personally I think he and Queen invented/defined more genres than perhaps they are recognised for. Thrash/speed metal, glam, soft rock, rock opera, shred metal while being progressive throughout, "Innuendo", "Bohemian Rapsody" spring to mind. The things the Red Special guitar could do seemed to be unacknowledged amongst guitarists for sometime although very apparent on record. As it was a custom built by May, no-one could get a replica or copy anywhere until much later on. His sound and tone are iconic and instantly recognisable. His knowledge and skills using guitar effects and studio techniques most of which are pioneering for their time. Perhaps the band that took over from where The Beatles got off imo.

How about "Good Company"? Called the "Old Girl", the "Fireplace", the "Red Special" did the whole jazz band on the song. The first song I ever heard by Queen was "Killer Queen" on the radio. I miss my graduation ceremonies and went to a Queen Concert in Houston. I saw a guy walking around with a tag on his chest that had a nice lady on it that was topless. She was pointing at me and it said "The Queen Crew wants YOU! I asked him about it and was hired on the spot. Brian has a whole set up for him in concert, but if everything went down, he could do all the songs in the concert with a Vox AC30 and a Treble boost. Just a great talent, a very keen mind, and Gentleman, and a Gentle man.

@@wickedmcjagger7911 In my opinion, sometimes it's not a question of being easy or hard. It's a question of which notes and tempo best fit the song, especially if the song has been written by someone else. Guitarist who play "difficult" just to show off themselves instead of placing the guitar at the service of the song - not the other way round- are not my cup of tea. As far as I can think, Brian only did that once, in Brighton Rock, but he did it for his own fun and it was his own song, he never messed up other people's compositions.

Just my opinions here but I always think of Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, etc because of the harmonies. To me, those always just blew me away. Speaking of harmonies... the most moving piece of harmony work IMO is the part in All Dead, All Dead. If you haven't heard that.... you must. It's just so huge and all guitar. Very sad too.
@MrACangusyoungDC9 жыл бұрын
TruthSurge His harmonies! "white queen something" and "save me" are two of many greats. It's just the best sound that there is, just like tsunami of sound. I believe even modern DJs would or at least should be blown away by that shit. Beats every syntheziser thing ever.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
MrACangusyoungDC I wonder if any rappers ever sampled some of it. prob not.
@MrACangusyoungDC9 жыл бұрын
TruthSurge They are so close minded. I've tried to introduce them softly to something else, and start with Jimi Hendrix - "Castles Made Of Sand" because it's very rap-ish, but still so much better than rap. But they just go "Nah, that's not rap so I will hate it right from the begining" But there are actually a few smart people out there who absorbs all kinds of stuff, but they haven't been introduced to it yet. Music will be better than what it is right now.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
MrACangusyoungDC I think we've just about worn out all styles of music. Not much that's really new, imo. anything you do almost certainly has been done before. But maybe you can add some twists and blend two olds to make one new.
@MrACangusyoungDC9 жыл бұрын
TruthSurge The bad thing about our time is that changes aren't popular. Singers only want to perform vocally, Djs want to compose beats and Rappers want to perform lyrically. They only look as far back as the '80s. If they're looking further they're pure underground. I don't like that kind of thing either because they are also sort of isolated too. I believe that things like Brian May's harmonies are able to blow anyone away, or at least the open minded musicians. Because there are actually some of them out there among the very popular musicians, mostly Djs like Avicii and David Guetta. They are not totally useless, and they are sort of accepting changes, which is the only way to improvement. The problem with those is that they are very unexperienced and haven't been introduced to thing's like "White Queen (As It Begin)" or "God Save The Queen". Then there the old guys who knows what sounds good but they lack the power of youth now. Ambition, experience and youth is the ultimate combination for the making of great music (and certainly other kinds of creative assemblies). These things were popular in the '60s and '70s so naturally good music was made there. Hehe, I just noticed that I am just discussing now. I'm Sort of just making up thing as I write onwards, but I can still be on to something here.
