HI, I have two maltese, one is 9 months old and the other 2 years old. I am interested in making home made food for them. I currently feed them Orijen small bites. I tried to feed them the best kibble, but don't know if what people say is true. I hear that kibble is so bad for dogs but it is so convenient. I do want to do the best for my dogs health. Do you have any home recipes and brand name of vitamins to include when cooking at home? I"m a nurse so work 12 hour shifts, so they eat at 6am and 830pm. any advise will help.

I was speaking to my veterinarian and she seemed a bit skeptical about raw meaty bones. Said she had seen instances of bacterial infection and splintering. Can you help me out here?

Buy directly from the butcher or slaughtering plant to ensure its as fresh as possible. Splintering is less common in raw bones but yes very much still possible. Start off with very small easy bones like chicken wing tips or duck/chicken feet which have lots of cartilage too. Move your way up to pork/chicken/duck necks etc. Always feed under supervision. There is risk no matter what kind of diet you feed, its all about how you manage it.
