I always watch your videos, even though I don't always agree with your opinion - which I think makes the best combination for progress. One thing I think you should mention on your videos is that things might be different for other persons or circumstances. For example, me - CCNA put me on my superiors radars for the Information Security Officer role, and now I was put in training for the position. Also, doing the Sec+ is a breeze because I really worked my but for the CCNA and everything seems more familiar now. Do I think it's mandatory for everybody to take CCNA? Absolutely not! But boy, I found it more than useful and at least for me, it was both the key for success and a massive boost in confidence as I had a very serious imposter syndrome before taking it, as I've switched careers at 34 years old. All the best!
@UnixGuy Жыл бұрын
hey Lucian, so happy for you and your progress! Having different opinions is a sign that we can think without letting emotion get in the way, which is a sign of maturity at your end! Yes CCNA can absolutely help, we have to put in the effort anyway, whether we learn the topics through ccna or directly through sec+ or even perhaps eJPT, learning is learning, I just try to offer alternative faster paths - that’s all. The paths that I recommend are not the only paths I’m very happy for you with your progress, changing a career is difficult but you did it! well done and it’s time to celebrate my friend! I agree with you, except the OSCP part. Yes for newbies its really hard. But it's entry pentesting cert still. It does not mean its entry level IT cert by no means! For some folks like me (sysadmin and devops background) it can be the shortest path to pentest interview. Intentionally saying interview and not job cos this will (HR recognition of this cert), get your foot in the door. I got my pentesting interview only cos having that cert. It's difficult, but highly valued. Now im in for OSEP (which suddenly feels kinda easy after all experience from real job except it still has a bit if CTF parts in it.) I saw your other videos tho and can relate to lot of opinions so you definetly have a new sub here! Keep up this great work getting people into cybersec! Hello Unix, thanks for the informative video it will help me in future a lot. What would you recommend certification for someone starting in IT field like a desk job at first as a beginner? I'm thinking to dive more into IT afterwards if I do great in the sector
@UnixGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi Mohammad, yeah you can do some IT certs like A+ or Net+ or you can start straight with cyber. This plan will explain it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5jCo6ifqKmIjsU

Hi and thank you for the amazing videos. I am 48 and I am starting the last months CCNA to generally learn about networking and then go to cyber security. I know it can be a stressful field, but is there a position I should be aiming with not so much stress and also being a realistic goal for starters? I plan to quit my job and go full study for two years in a private institution as well. I know I’m probably a bit too old to do this, but I hope I can make it.

Hey Ellias, your age is an asset, people with maturity are valued! It’s not always super stressful, it really depends on what you get as a beginner and also how the company operates (some companies are more stressful than others) I curated a playlist of videos where I talked about every cyber specialisation, I highly recommend you watch the videos there and take notes as it will help your decision greatly: kzbin.info/aero/PLdI5VHN89i7XgaT-dWsthpAKOmjAF3gCR

Thanks for the quick response on the previous video, followed your link and have written down the next goals! One last question, I stated that I'm working on the SSCP, so far its another blanket but seems a bit more indepth than security + is this a respectable cert in the industry?

SSCP is used as a stepping stone to CISSP, I personally would do either CC or security+, then I would the certs that I mentioned in this video instead because they’re practical and more useful

my preference is for you to start with a cyber job right away and build your skills there and if you can’t, try cloud or anything really, any job is better than no job. I touched on that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYHQh6OehNaGfbs and a little bit here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5TSi2V-pL6kqNk

I am asking because what you showed as the abbreviation was eCTHPv2 (certified threat hunting professional) but what you said was "certified incident responder" (eCIR).
