Bro u gotta understand, in the 80s the most talent-rich era ever, EVERYONE agreed Larry was the best from them all, hence the 3 mvp’s in row
@daedalron3 ай бұрын
And it was not just 3 mvp in a row. He was 2nd in the mvp race for most of the other years. For the total of 9 consecutive years, Bird received 67% of all the mvp votes. That's how dominant he was at the time.

That isn't true. The Celtics were never up 30-40 points. The game was close and the Celtics won by 11. Dominique Wilkins was on one in that game too and put up 36. But, the Celtics went up by 8 after the first and just held on the rest of that game.

NBA in the 80s was so competitive. Bird and the Celtics wanted to win EVERY game in the season. Walked out on the court with chips on their shoulder and no intention of ever losing. Mid season meaningless games were still wars. It was great.

The Defending player was Antoine Carr. Larry called "in the trainers lap" so Carr on purpose fouled him with an elbow, sending Bird towards the trainer. That shot actually didnt count, the foul was before he went up for the jumper. But Carr said that when Bird let it go he screamed out "MONEY!"

Very respectable top10 list. I have a slightly differet order but the exact same names apart from Duncan who I *_do have_* in my top10 but in parentaccess. Not dissing his skills, I just missed most of his playing. 2000 to 2011 I was deployed, started a family and a business, wasnt much room for anything else. I dont know when he came into the league but Duncan wasnt in there when I stopped watching and he retired pretty soon after I actually had time to spend on watching games again, like 2012? Maybe? I have seen a few highlights here and there and I believe he is in the top10 but due to lacking in information I havent solidified him in my list. But you seem to share my idea of greatness which both strenghten my confidence in having him there AND also gives me the kick in the butt I need to actually go look into it for real. If he is as good as I believe and you say je is, I owe it to both him and myslef. Time to stop being a lazy prick 🤣

When I listen to all these videos that have come out, I hear the same things being said. Bird says whoever you pick between Magic and MJ, you wouldnt be wrong. Magic says Jordan is the GOAT in the air and Bird is the GOAT on the ground. Jordan says that he refuses to call himself the GOAT because of Bird and Magic. Its like a holy trinity of basketball.

Jordan was the goat of offense but if you are looking for the blueprint of the perfect player then bird is the best. So good of a blue print that you see a lot of players attempting to emulate one or two of his abilities but you never see all at once. Even jordan came close with getting everything from his shooting to his mind games. The only part that he could not get perfect is the passing as its not nearly as sublime as bird's could be. Sure you can show amazing stats that are far above the norm but when you can get all the stats to a high level and sustain it long enough to make even more skilled players fall to you then you are certainly on a whole other level.

I hear ya....Their game bags are just so individual and different completely....How can they honestly be measured against each other? impossible, well impossible to fairly....the only commonality they share to start with to compare is being in the league. in any case....The one quote and I can't remember who it was that said it was ' Michael needed the ball to affect the game, Larry doesn't need to take one shot to affect, dominate & win' It is very true. He never stopped out on that court, he gave everything of himself & more. Michael is second to Larrys #1 spot on my top 3.....3rd would be Kobe...because they had that fierce killer instinct in competition...nothing like Bird and Jordan in that aspect.

Im actually willing to accept a top 3 of wilt bill and bird. That would mean bird is better than Kareem. I usually say Kareem is number 3 but I can see a case for bird over Kareem One thing I can’t stand is when people don’t bring up birds name of the list of players whom had no weaknesses because of their ignorance of birds athleticism. They think bird had no athleticism when that’s the opposite of true and claim his one weakness was athleticism when bird is the epitome of athleticism meaning nothing and no flaw of his game whatsoever. Not to mention he was athletic One thing I love about Larry is as part of the tribunal of white bois that the hood respected of Maravich, West, and bird, bird played in the hood the most and busted everyone of our azzes that would question him cuz of his physical appearance haha
@daedalron3 ай бұрын
Bird athleticism wasn't that high. In terms of power and jumping ability, he wasn't great. Which is why he doesn't have highlights of dunks like more athletic players. But Bird compensated by his motivation to fight for every ball, a great passing and shooting ability, top notch court vision, and a great versatility in his plays (he could shoot from far, go into the paint, pass the ball if you double-team him, shoot in your face if you don't double-team him, ...). It was highly effective, but not as impressive for the general public than more athletic players dunking left and right all game. That's why many people don't realize how good Bird was.
@Baselinehangtime83 ай бұрын
@@daedalron my comment says he wasn’t that athletic so I guess your agreeing with everything in it It also says he was deceptively athletic and that cannot be denied 180 dunks off dribble, several double clutch reverse layups, and uncanny hand eye coordination Very powerful guy with great size which is also part of athleticism So yeah he wasn’t the most athletic but overall was no slouch athletically at all And above all else, he showed just like most great players, that athleticism is meaningless in front of skilll and only gets you anywhere on a roster in any era which is why the greatest dunkers in planetary history, fastest strongest and bulky sizable people in history, can’t make the nba and end up in pro wrestling or and1 or pro dunk shows or Ginnis world record for 8 footers heavy strong and/or skinny weak cuz they nowhere near skilled enough This why it’s so important fans like you exist to understand all of that and why it’s so important to never pay any mind to the vast majority of casuals with such an untrained eye and under appreciation for the sport that they view birds style as less impressive and exciting than a vince Carter or Domonique Wilkins or Lebron etc… cuz of such less ability to be airborne and stylish in the air and explode off a dribble

Everyone gets the Hawks’ bench laughing and high fiving wrong. During that game Bird was hitting ridiculous shots. Now put yourself in the position of the Hawks’ players. Wouldn’t your reaction be, “come on? That garbage went in? You gotta be kidding me? This is crazy!” ? All of those guys on the bench got smoked during the game and they were yelling stuff to whoever guarded Bird like , “don’t let him do that to you! Get his ass! Get on him!” One by one they were sacrificed to Larry Bird’s 60 point game. Now put yourself in that game. You are sitting on the bench after getting cooked watching another player get eaten by Larry Bird. Not just by a regular Larry Bird. We are talking about a Larry Bird that was throwing up shots that shouldn’t have gone in. Any other night and those shots were either bricks, air balls or blocked. The Hawks’ players weren’t cheering for Bird. They were laughing at how ridiculous it was because there was no way those shots should have gone in. These were shots people attempted when they were screwing around during practice or in the school yard or playing Horse. Like I said, the players were laughing at the “come on? That shit went in? That is crazy! There is no way he can do that again. Then he does it again. 😳
