I think the metrics to judge this by can be highly variable, but 2021 EDG is mine. That year was stacked with super variable teams that showcased many playstyles. I know some series was the enemy team kinda fking their own draft, but EDG understanding how to adapt within the context they could operate was a second coming to me in terms of loving league. For this, my main metric is what the goat team showed me vs the field at a particular point in time, thought again thats just my stupid metric.

Btw loads of those aspect are conjecture and I can't comment, for example no one can talk about how much soloq t1 actually played. Plus Chinese players play a whole 2 tourney circuit most people don't watch so I don't consider it for JDG as I would for t1. Poby era was there choice same as easyhoon etc

I think the fact that the older SKT teams had prime Faker puts them over the edge. When you compare the dominance that 2013-2017 Faker had compared to modern midlaners there is no comparison at all. If you put the accomplishments of modern Faker and Chovy (2019-2024) together in all tournaments they still fall short to prime Faker. Only if you include prime Showmaker would it even slightly edge him out. I think the people that say Faker is in a new prime clearly only watched recently because it is disrespectful to the greatness of prime Faker to even consider this another/new prime lol.

Only started watching in 2015 MSI, I would have to put 2015-2016 SKT over current T1. Mainly because SKT during that era had that feeling of inevitability, no matter the matchup, the game state, you always had the feeling in the end they would win. Current T1 in so many matchups you are unsure, you feel they can win but they will have to be clutch to do so, maybe chovy or knight just gap Faker, maybe Keria's picks dont work out etc. Overall thoroughly enjoyed this type of historical content.

😂😂 I was actually sooo ready to cou ter your arguments if you will only have one iteration of T1 in your lists but it seems we think alike 😂. I think I was just fed up of other podcasts out there usually downplays T1 so this kind of ranking discussions makes me uncomfortable. But atleast found some people out there who really watched league and looks at it in an objective way. Nymaera is always well spoken and he knows what he is talking about. I am sorry Rich, as a hardcore T1 fan, I will go with Keire for putting the 2016 roster the greatest team ever cos I always value achievements like they did the first and only international grandslam ever and they really dominated the scene like that is the time when we OG fans doesn't really worry cos we know they will always win so the summer lose at that time is just so shocking for us but anyway what I want to say is that ZOFGK is definitely great and no one can deny that and pretty sure they can do more great if they continue on as a roster again next year but aside from the back to back to back worlds finals and 2022, t1 is just walking on thread and it's frustrating watching them since 2023. That is why I still take the 2016 one a little bit higher but I don't really want to compare ZOFGK with just one iteration cos SKT greatest team ever is just the Bengi-Faker-Bang wolf era and that is from 2015-2017. Tho I believe ZOFGK will top them if they go on for more. Also, these discussions just for me explains better the statement Rich said in the previous podcast about Faker to win again this year's worlds and stomp everyone especially the midlaners cos everyone now just think Chovy or Knight now in their peak are far better than peak Faker like what??? Obviously those who said it are just either haters or new fans who never witness SKT Faker era. Like the standard you're saying now as the modern league buff is made possible cos of the innovations of old players and half if not most of that is innovated by Faker. If you count 2015-2017 T1 as one Era it's EASILY the best , and 2016 on it's own is probably the best single year. But I just think staying together as a 5 man for 3 years in itself is also a great achievement to go along with the tournament placements in modern league.

I like Faker Xerath from 2014-2015 u-u. Also even though they subbed Faker out, I wouldn't call that spring in 2015 a down period, Faker was insane at that point, he wasn't that good on Azir but was by far the best player in the world, the only time on that year that he slumped was at MSI.

There's no way this current T1 team is the greatest of all time. How can a team have Faker, only win 3 out of 15 possible tournaments and be the goat? Keep in mind, people talk about the team being clutch - and Faker absolutely is - but what happens if the meta doesn't change completely one week before LCK Summer 2023 playoffs? Aatrox hadn't been picked a single time throughout the whole year, then Riot buffed it which allowed not only him but also counters like Yone and Gwen which play right into Zeus' wheelhouse into the meta. Rell and Orianna also got buffed last minute. This year, same thing with adc mids being meta all year and then getting nerfed last minute. 2022 was their most legit year and they ultimately lost Worlds.

Well it's just a very exceptional case of 5 players sticking together for 3 years. Winning 2 Worlds finals and being in so many finals in general no single roster can compare to that. We can all shake our heads in disagreements towards the meta changes but in reality Riot is quite predictable when it comes to what they want the meta to be by the end of the year and being able to exploit that is an extremely valuable skill.

Agreed. They’ve only won Spring 2022, and won worlds 2023 and 2024 when the meta/patch favored them. For a team that has stuck with each other for 3 years, it’s pretty obvious they are EXPECTED to find success compared to other teams - at least top 3 in every event. But they can’t win regionals which is a longer tournament, so thats already pretty sus.

I myself as a t1 fan don't have 3 T1 rosters in top 3 😅 i weigh DK slightly higher I think this T1 roster is out of the equation just because of the longevity factor I can't compare them with rosters that only stayed for 1 year together. it's an amazing roster and actually my favorite roster all time it was a dramatic journey throughout the 3 years and hopefully they stay together next year. But to sum it all up I think as you and Keire said this roster is just so unique with their pros and cons they made top 3 in every tour in 3 years they might even have the best Peak in certain METAS but overall I can't just put them in comparison with DK 2020 JDG 2023 GEN 2024 SKT 2013 SKT 2015 SKT 2016 because you never know what will happen if these teams played for 2 more years .

M5 were great but as I outlined for me personally at least, I don't really count anything prior to Season 3.

For consistent rules sake I'm not counting SKT 2015-2016 together cause it's not actually the same 5 players, so here's the list: 1. T1 current roster 2. iG 2018-2019 3. SKT 2013-2014 Gen.G 2024 is 4th for me as they had the most dominant year of all time of any team up until the summer finals and at worlds they only lost to the eventual champions in T1 after the comps they were practicing all year got cancernerfed. 2023 JDG is close 5th but overall not as consistently good as Gen.G. I put 2013-2014 SKT 3rd because the game was so underdeveloped it really was the Faker show and the rest of the team doesn't match up to modern standards. iG played some games with Leyan in 2019 and in 2018 Duke was starting at some points but in the end at Summer Finals/Worlds it was TheShy show and the 5 of them accomplished more in the 2 years than any other 5 man roster ever did apart from T1/SKT. T1 spent the vast majority of their last 3 years in the shadows of Gen.G but they were still consistently at the top for so long, after winning 2024 as well it's not debatable anymore. There are an uncountable number of honorable mentions but when it comes to the greatest 5 man rosters of all time no one is beating the aforementioned teams.

2015 SKT is giga overrated not just because of the exodus, but also the juggernaut patch at worlds. It made the worlds meta a complete fiesta and caused the LPL teams to collapse. SKT's path to finals was AHQ and OG. No shot that team is better than ZOFGK who beat way more legit opponents, won multiple worlds, and have vastly individually superior players. Bang/Wolf are bums compared to Guma/Keria.
