thanks for this, will be showing my dad because he ends up letting my shrimp die even after ive suggested to him things similar, especially the 5 level testers. but he sits on it and i get so devastated that my wee guys are dying yaknow? ... had some pinto and cherries, but theres significantly much less and it just feels upsetting. i cant do much myself, my mobility is limited, but i do what i can to help but my father just never listens. maybe sending this video will help hi, further look into it. love you as always mark, keep it up. thanks for the reassurance too, means tons

Which shrimp is it? Caridina or neocaridina?
@SarahKilby69 Жыл бұрын
The NT Labs liquid test kit covers all 6 of the basic/ necessary tests at an average price or around 22 GBP. Not too expensive at all. Weigh this up against the cost of lost shrimp and its nothing

I noticed all your tanks contain a mini Oxydator, are they beneficial to shrimp keeping? Thank you!
@AquariumAficionado Жыл бұрын
I lost all my shrimps, they were too sensitive and needed a lot of tlc to keep them happy I gave up and sadly they all passed away Now I just have 6 nano fish in there Much easier less maintenance less worry Also I had my fun with the shrimp for about a year had a population explosion and bred cool hybrids But I really struggled to maintain a stable environment for them and decided to stick with fish and snails Breeding 100+ golden Inca snails at the moment

keeping shrimps for last 7/8 years and never had a tank full of shrimps. and feeling tired of taking care of them with no outcome (population-wise). seriously thinking of shifting to a school of tetras.

Hmmm.... I think and feel, that's ever happened to me, but something about caridina shrimp make me keep trying
@GrumpyGillsFishing Жыл бұрын
The number one mistake new shrimp keepers make is mixing up neos and caridinas. Neos are much hardier. I’ve had complete success with shrimp in cycles when setting up new tanks with neos. I’d never attempt this with a caridina. But with plants, prime, stability, and short food rations it’s completely feasible to do shrimp in cycles with neos. Obviously I don’t think it should be done by anyone who knows the dangers of nitrogens.

I’m in well water where I live,and not a fan of chasing parameters(high iron and calcium in the water). For whatever reason,it doesn’t serve my shrimp well.
@MrGigi-dz9cv5 ай бұрын
I'd say, the fitst mistake, is keeping shrimp in small aquariums. First think, when shrimpkeeping, is get a fair large aquarium (40-50l). This will be extremly usefull, because any change of the water parameters won't be as bad on the shrimp, as in a small volume. Water quality, is most important for shrimp.
@MrGigi-dz9cv5 ай бұрын
If there is something decaying in the shrimp tank, that will affect the water quality and kill your shrimp.

The worst mistake for New caradina holders is trying to correct the EC/TDS value in the tank it self by making there waterchange ro water with a lower value off EC/TDS with GH+ This will drop the GH level
@Cleeon Жыл бұрын
So, do you suggest the new water must have exactly same TDs value with the water inside aquarium?
@robbor353 Жыл бұрын
No , all waterchanges must be made with ro and the correct value of the GH+. The value is mentioned on the package off the GH+ The value off tds/ec in the tank isnt always only the gh value. All waste materials (no3,po4 en, enz ) will involve the tds/ec value in the tank itself.

my shrimps and dwarf cryfish are fairly easy to keep alive, they breed just fine and finish their meals. I rarely test water for toxins anymore, is good enough with plenty of margin whenever I do. ... what I have trouble with is keeping a lot of plant species well and growing. No trouble with moss or something simple like frogbite ofc, but getting the lighting and nutrients balanced so that neither algea explode nor my fancier plants wither is quite the challenge. But then again, my tanks aint pure breeding capsules .. they have to look interesting and different too. So just replicating a well working combination of soil, hardscape and plants isnt really an option for me. Everytime I set up a new tank I calculate the loss of a couple of plants, as it takes quite some time to figure out the specific demand of that new design / combination of plant species.
