➡How many STIHL Chainsaw owners here would like it if Stihl went back to "screw on caps"? Please comment!➡

Absolutely not, the new Stihl oil/petrol covers are much easier to open/close than the old screw caps. I have never had a problem with the new type leaking, it seemed to be a local Canadian/US problem. 😀

Screw caps, if you can't get the cap loosened, just use the scrench. My Dad's 026 never leaked, and that saw is way over 30 years old.

There is an aftermarket cap for Stihl called EZ twist by Pro Line. I have tried one and it it working well. I notice the new Stihl fuel caps come with a blue o-ring now.

I have seen various brands leak bar oil and it seems no matter if it is a Big name brand or some off the wall brand they all seem to leak at some point. I have become so accustomed to that fact I simply pay no attention to it anymore When I store it and it has some oil still there I place paper towel under the saw and it collects anything that should leak until I use it again and FYI most of mine never leak around a cap

I'll take my Stihl 026 with the screw caps any day. I put the 026 saws in the bed of the mule, no oil leaks. Put a 290 or 460 and oil leaks all in the bed.

I'd prefer a screw on cap as well. I've gotten very accustomed everytime I add bar oil to my saws to make sure there isn't any sawdust on the oring on the cap or in the mouth of the oil tank where the oring seals. 10 seconds doing that saves me allot of grief later.
@warddc3 ай бұрын
The other way they leak that i have found is when you bring it inside the warmth built up will pressurize the oil tank and force some oil out. It will continue to flow out as it siphons. To break the heat pressure and siphon, temporarily open the cap and lay the saw on its' back for a while for it to cool. You can then put the cap back on and it won't leak.

Please tell us more about the parts industry and hydrostatic transmissions. I put a new hydrostatic in my craftsman and it was working fine then going up a steep incline it snapped and I free wheeled freely back down the incline. I weigh 315 lbs and it was a scary ride. What is a good mower for me?

I have a STILH ms 361 and it's the aluminium tank who have a little hole in it cause by the wood chip comming from the chain but the problem this part is the half of the base of the engine. The molding of the case is so thin at some place that it have worn out.

My Dad's 026 never leaked, it has the old type screw caps, but my MS250 leaks a bit. I don't know why Stihl changed the caps. Sometimes you have to fiddle with the cap to get it to seat properly. I guess I should replace it sometime. Have a great Sunday Don👍

Sounds like quality issues to me. If it works, why not change the design to something cheaper? I have a relatively new Poulan Pro PR5020, made by Husqvarna, which I have only used once, so I may run into this bar oil cap issue or the other two. Thank you, Don! You're the best!

I'm not sure what caused my oil to leak out but I had it in my uninsulated shed during hot and humid weather. Maybe the oil expanded? I no longer keep oil in the saws during the summer when they are in the shed.

Sometimes you actually have to clean the fittings and use a sealer in stubborn cases... 😕 Fair to remember Husky's have an oil tank vent tube as well. 😉 That's pretty rare in my experience... 🤷🏼♂️ Also check the cover plate for any dents that might encroach on the oil line. 🤔

Thank god for Stihl and Husqvarna, or you wouldn't have a business. I have better luck with $100.00 saws because I can buy a new one every year and it is cheaper than sending it to someone like like you to repair it every year. It costs me more to repair than a new shit saw. How about you tell people the truth. Tell people how much you charge customers every time they bring their Stihl saw in for service. I can buy a $100.00 shit saw for less.
