I've been using braid on my reels since Spiderwire came out back in the 90s. Now all my walleye, pike, catfish, and laker reels all have braid on them. No memory, instant hook sets, and the line can usually stay on for a few years or more depending on use

@@slowjamcdubthanks for your comment! I am struggling with the idea of using straight braid. Seems most of these line videos recommend using leaders to ensure invisibility. Some claim it helps the action as well. Most if the waters I fish have visibility between 1-3 feet. I would appreciate it if you could expound on your practice and experiences using straight braid. Where and what, if you use high vis braid, and if you ever color the first few feet with colored markers or anything like that. It would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Now I am just an 11 year old who loves fishing with my whole heart, and would never want to be negative to any other anglers, but I would like to say that mono has had no memory for me when I get month old from shelves, and for reason 3, I personally have had same stretch for mono as for braid. If I am wrong because I wasn’t watching the video and heard mono instead of floro, then I apologize. Remember, no hate to any anglers or braid has gone into this comment. Keep fishing!!!
@Piscifun4 жыл бұрын
Rippin Lips TV maybe you’re using a different Braid buddy; but 99% of braid is no stretch and mono has super stretch. Mono is softer than flouro and flouro does have worse memory.

Been fishing for a while but never really used braid, I’m pretty much only a bass fisherman, and is braid good for an all around set up on a casting rod like if I wanted to throw a Texas rig, a jig, a spinner bait and maybe like a buzz bait, do I need to use a leader? If so do I need a fluro or mono? I’m just a little confused and would like some feedback if possible, thanks

@philparrish69142 жыл бұрын
OK, so braid is superior to fluorocarbon because you don't want stretch in the line. Use fluorocarbon leader on the braid which stretches. Something seems to be quite strange in this scenario.

There’s a large difference in stretch with a 3’ leader to a 20’ mainline.

Depends on what depth you are wanting...topwater, actually has plenty options but some of the classics can always do well, it's why they are around still. The Arbogast stuff can work great, from the hula poppers to the Jitterbug. Heddon is also another great choice for top water, going deeper its tons of options across the board for jerkbaits.

Braid is a solution to problems that never really existed. Don’t get me wrong, I use braid on spinning gear that I use with live/cut bait. But that’s it. Mono is spooled in every other reel I have and has been for the past 36 years. Never failed to set a hook with it unless I just wasn’t paying attention. If I just started fishing and listened to 99% of the information out there I’d think that it’s pointless to use anything but braid. The stretch and memory issue with mono is too often overly emphasized and the issues with braid are always understated. Braid has its uses, but it isn’t the end all be all do all of lines. Just my experience.
@Piscifun2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, in my opinion the low stretch and sensitivity properties of braid outweigh any downfalls of it.
@johnalmaguer7118 Жыл бұрын
I've always used baitcaster with mono. Am 61 yo old. Never used spinning gear, but recently decided to start trying crappie fishing. I spool reel correctly, but I get line twist and coils jumping off reel. Its frustrating. Going to try braid, never had issues with mono on baitcaster but spinning, I hate it.
