Bob and Brad. I got an injection into my right hip for bursitis yesterday at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I asked about what PT to do and they suggested I watch your show. They referred to you both as the "Two goofy guys on KZbin". LOL. I knew exactly who they were referring to. Your officially famous.

Thanks so much for sharing this information, Bob and Brad! It took forever for me to get my hip and back pain diagnosed. I'm a medical massage therapist by profession, and felt that I had several issues going on (which they finally found out I did). Labral tear, arthritis, and bone spurs. No wonder I had problems with walking and sleeping for over a year. I'm a very active woman of 72...Medicare wouldn't pay for hip replacement until I was fully diagnosed with severe arthritis, thus the length of time it took to obtainin a hip replacement last August. My orthopedic surgeon also added a teeny bit more length to my leg after further diagnosing me with leg length discrepancy, I didn't know I had (which was contributing to my back pain). After seven months, all I can say is I'm mostly pain-free. I was back to playing pickleball at 2 months. My back pain has decreased significantly and hip pain only once in awhile (some achiness). Thanks again!!!

Bob&Brad I want to thank you guys you have helped me with my arthritic hip. In 2010 I had my left hip totally replaced and I am happy with the results. When I was having the surgery my Dr. told me my right hip was as bad as the one I had the surgery on. My right hip wasn't hurting me hardly at all. Now twelve years later my right hip has been bothering me a lot. I saw one of your videos where you showed hip stretching exercises. I have been doing the stretching exercises every night for five nights. My hip has felt so much better I can't believe it!! How could I feel so much better so soon? Thanks again for helping me with my arthritic hip!!!

But mri scan never picked up anything it wasn't till they took hip out realised my hip were bad. Bedtime was the worst place for me because as soon as I moved the pain was so severe slept with cushion between my knees this is before I had my hip replacements

I have every single symptom listed. :( The first one to appear was internal rotation, about 30 years ago. Currently the most debilitating of all is the inability to flex the hip back. Makes it hard to lie flat, walk, or even stand erect. Someone please come up with a non-surgical way to treat this, because I refuse to allow hip replacement surgery.

Doc doesn’t seem to think I need a specialist. He thinks I have a little arthritis and bursitis. He offered injections. I’ve had left knee pain 8 months, HAD swelling in that knee, same doc diagnosed me with slight torn meniscus. Swelling and most pain disappeared when I had the flu and bronchitis, go figure... blessing in disguise. Now both knees hurt again and hip. Been taking WAY too much Aleve since May! Sooooo, I’m watching every suggestion you two have! I’d be a great guinea pig for y’all. God bless and thx!

Really enjoy your videos...may I offer an observation? I sometimes find it hard to locate the muscle and bone areas that you refer to for two reasons: 1. you both usually wear black trousers and it's hard to really pinpoint where you're pointing to on your back or in this case, the hip. 2.The skeleton doesn't always help because it's hard to translate the areas your'e referring to using that. The red tape helps but when you discussed the piriformis using the red tape, I still wasn't sure when trying to locate it on myself because it was hard to see where Brad was pointing to. In addition to using the skeleton, any chance of using a drawing of a rear end, with maybe some X's marked as landmarks in some of your videos? -Regarding hip topics, could you both offer any symptom profile ans advice for determining if hip pain is due to labral tear or hip impingment? Thanks

I have arthritis in the right hip. The most painful thing for me is walking up stairs and pushing off on my right leg. So, I step up on my left leg first and then bring up the right foot on the same step and repeat the actions.

Stairs: Keep Posture Upright (Oct. 26, 2022) Hi, friends! I did this "step up with the left foot and bring up the right foot after" thing for a long, long time before the pain settled down enough to again walk evenly up and down the stairs. I have mild RA and age-related OA. My tip is never to lean your upper body forward too far (especially the head) when climbing up the stairs. Pressures are increased when going up, but even more when going down stairs. 'Hoping that this "posture improvement" note might be helpful for someone. Fred's tip is great for "not making the pain worse." I'm just another patient, but wanted to share about posture because what feels safer (leaning forward or backward on the stairs) actually hurts the underlying condition more, and I never knew that, before Bob & Brad. NOTE: Please hold on tightly to the bannister rail in case there is a misstep! Standing up straight on the stairs has really helped me. Also: Regaining that gentle lower inward curve of the back has helped ease the pain from back mini-fractures and collapsing disc pain, too. For Ladies: Generations of girls have been taught to minimize their backside by not allowing it to stick out at all. This can lead to low back issues. We can help at least one more person by sharing that "curves are not bad." Hash tag: Bringing booty back. 😂 Hope that this helps someone, someday. May you greatly improve! God bless you always. 🙏🙂💜💕

Used to work out 6 days/week 2 hrs a day&work on my feet 8 hrs/6 days a week. Looking forward to getting better. I'm 50&feel 80. Please get x rays to have an idea what is wrong. I can vouch for my knee 'irritation' not so much pain, that also disappeared when I received my first cortisone shot for my hip. Before the shot, I had a basic x-ray taken and the doctor said I had arthritis. I'm 67 and active in that I play golf and go to the gym three or four days a week. Before my steroid shot, as my hip irritation worsened over a years time, I'd of course watch videos such as this, to glean more info on what might be causing my increasing hip area irritation. naturally I experimented with what I was doing in the gym, which was telling, as obviously certain things brought on the pain. I paced myself with anti-inflammatory medication, for obvious reasons, and took a few pills before and activiity that would cause irritation. (golf) The effort would take the edge off the pain, however. Strengthening the easily missed minimus and medius gluteas muscles was one thing that I've discovered via these videos on KZbin. It's been almost three weeks since my initial cortisone injection, and the effects are wearing off slightly. I'm hoping that the regiment of strengthening the area that supports the hip joint, combined with an occasional anti-inflammatory medication before indulging in golf, will make everything tolerable.

Good video, guys... well presented and easy for laymen to understand. (I must admit, though, I think your opening jingle/song is a bit corny/cheesy 😄). Anyway, speaking as an osteopath of 31 years private practice (incidentally, osteopaths in the UK and other ‘rest-of-the-world’ countries differ from those in the USA and Canada) I pretty much entirely agree with you. I think it is worth pointing out that although medical investigation - for example, X-Ray - may show osteoarthrosis (often being informed by their medical doctor that this is the cause of their hip pain) it’s also quite possible that it’s a purely age-related OA. ie. no more than anyone else of similar age and thus normal for that particular age. We all develop a degree of wear-and-tear as we get older. Trouble is that being irresponsibly informed that OA is the culprit, will often create a despondency in the patient... causing them to ‘give up’. So, I believe it’s always worthwhile to allay the patient’s concern should previous medical investigation have given rise to possible ‘scaremongering’. Additionally, we all have a degree of asymmetry in flexibility, even from a very young age. Me, for example, I find it more difficult to cross my right leg over my left knee... I’ve always been that way, ever since I was a kid. The discovery of this in the adult patient ought to be taken not on its own merit but *only* as part of the bigger picture in differential diagnosis. Finally, I’d have liked to have seen Bob causing Brad a bit more pain than that. 😃

Thank you! I have a question. I’ve had severe sciatic pain; an x-ray showed severe scoliosis, arthritis, bone spurs, some stenosis, many bulging disks, etc. The neurosurgeon didn’t want to touch it & wants to send me to a doctor who deals with spinal deformities, which is fine, but the sciatica has resolved and my pain is almost completely coming from my outer hip ball & socket joint, and can radiate from there down my leg to my knee. I’m wondering if this is hip arthritis (seems to be, judging from your video.) I’m thinking that treating hip arthritis might be less drastic and more helpful than back surgery (if that’s even possible). I’m 75. What questions should I ask my doctor to help him consider hip arthritis before I’m sent for something more drastic?

4 words: just get an X-ray. Simple. I wish I had had an X-ray first before wasting time with physical therapy. My hip was bone on bone and I needed a hip replacement. My advice: get an X-ray and hip replacement and don't waste time. I was sooo happy with the hip replacement because it was like a miracle!

How long did your recovery time take? How did it change your physical activities. Could you still do physical activities?
@mbmochinski

@@qo2097 in my case my recovery went well. Initially it was pretty difficult of course, but progressed rapidly with physical therapy and a desire to get back driving and back to normal. My recommendation is to continue to do physical therapy exercises at home as directed, don’t skip them or skimp in the amount ordered. The pain throughout the entire process was negligible. I was very happy with how it went and I was back to normal quickly.

Good advice. Over the last 4 years I have had 7 MRIs and no answers. Every doctor I saw needed their own MRI and still missed the neuromuscular scoliosis. Funny my neighbor a Pedestrian saw it on an X-ray 17 years ago!

I did all that also with no relief. I'm actually getting worse&can barely stretch now cuz of limited mobility. Got xrays&mri. I have severe arthritis,bone spurs&no cartilidge in right hip. I "hobble" now when i walk. After cortisone injection in right hip&lower spine with no relief I'm getting a right hip replacement in 6 weeks. U should get xrays to pinpoint what's wrong.

If a patient is in their mid 20s and diagnosed with arthritis in your hip and no interventions have helped ( like physical therapy, anti inflammatories, not weight barring exercises, and etc) what do you suggest next to reduce their pain?
