2012 F350 Super Duty Crew Cab Long Bed I want to share my experience with everyone stepping into the “death wobble” game. I have been driving Chevys for the last 30 years, so I was a stranger to the death wobble issue that Fords are plagued with. I bought the truck used at a Ford dealer in October of 2020. It was in very good cosmetic shape and what seemed to be good engine and transmission condition. It had 185,000 miles on it. The tires were all new as well. In the first month, I had some serious vibration issues coming from the front left tire. Ford had used a third party to install this set of tires, so I went to the installer to have them checked. Clearly, the front left tire had a ‘rise’ on it. Even though the business acknowledged it, they refused to warranty it - and they only had about 100 miles on them. I had the tire put on the rear to get the vibration out of the front end. Fast forward to November of 2021 - This was the first time I had a death wobble on the truck. I thought it was a flat tire. It did it twice on the trip and I was perplexed because I couldn’t find any issue that would merit such a horrible gyration. After that day, it was intermittent and random. But as the months passed, it became more frequent. After having pull this stunt in big city traffic on overhead freeways, I knew something had to be done. I took it to an old school wheel alignment shop that I have been using for years. They were very familiar with the issue and kept a stock of the necessary Ford OEM parts to replace everything with. However, it did not fix the issue. After a couple of months, I purchased the SuperLift Dual Steering Stabilizer kit and the required 3-inch leveler (I found mine on AmericanTrucks.com) with Bilstein Shocks for the front. I took the truck to a local diesel mechanic, and he swore that the stabilizer kit would do nothing for the death wobble. He pointed out some parts he believed to have play in them and guaranteed me that replacing those would fix it. He was wrong. I did not have him put the kit on afterwards. I took the truck home and decided to do the work myself. I wanted to put in the shocks first and test it to see if that alleviated the issue before putting on the stabilizer kit. On removing the stock shocks, the left one was clearly shot and the right one was right behind it. I put the leveler kit on installed the new shocks with a new trackbar bracket to compensate for the added height. I had it realigned, and the problem was worse than before. I then installed the SuperLift Dual Steering Stabilizer kit and the issue stopped. I have taken it over bad spot I know that would throw it into convulsions before and it never went into the wobble. Therefore, for me, the stabilizer kit did fix the issue. There is no doubt for me that the tires are a part of the issue. But eating another $2,000 bucks to replace tires that have 10,000 miles on them is quite unattractive. For now, this will carry me to the point when I’m ready to purchase a new set. This has been my experience with the whole issue - not just conjecture. I hope it helps someone else trying to fix this idiotic setup by Ford.

I've never had death wobble in my super duties. I've found that even with brand new components some of my buddies trucks have had really bad death wobble and I adjusted their tire psi on the front tire so that tire/truck/weight combo had the tires making a near perfect contact patch and the tire PSI was @ 8-15 psi higher than the rears (empty bed). I figured this trick out with my jeep YJ that would occasionally get death wobble and seemed to be exacerbated after airing up coming off of the trail when you e had a long day and just want to get home. Psi too high, little death wobble, psi just right, no death wobble, psi too low, really bad death wobble. So try playing with your tire psi and see if that works for your tire/weight combo to fix it😊

Solid video, just one comment for others. Cody made a point toward the end about a steering stabilizer "fixing" death wobble and commented how it's true and false. Replacing a steering stabilizer when you have death wobble will help mask the wobble only if the wobble isn't severe and only until the wobble wears out the stabilizer. Even if you wobble isn't bad the longer you run around with it the more it's going to bear up that steering stabilizer among other things until you address the problem. On a JK I used to own I went through 3 different steering stabilizers in under a year due to the issue. It wasn't until I tracked down the root problem and from that day on never had an issue with it.
@kenroot56824 жыл бұрын
Yep. Jeeps are good for worn track bar bushings, which allow the whole axle to shift, side-to-side, and starts death wobble.
@603Cummins4 жыл бұрын
@@kenroot5682 My issue was actually a relatively known issue of the incorrect size of bolt going through the track bar mount. I don't know how many years but apparently jeep has used a metric bolt with a SAE hole which when lifted with larger tires caused the mount to ovalize. Installing a synergy track bar brace solved my issue there but I was mainly bringing it up to let others know that you'll continue to wear out shocks for your stabilizer if you don't correct the core problem.

I will never off-road in this Wrangler, I just want it to be as safe as possible, track a straight line, and handle paved curvy roads. So far this video seems like the best educated take on this. It depends on the exact truck and steering configuration. Essentially Carli has a high mount that attaches to the drag link, and a low mount that goes to the tie rod. Both are oriented in different directions to harness the native pushing power of a nitrogen charged damper. You’ll want to choose a stabilizer that pushes in the opposite direction your tires pull. If you choose to run both the high and low mount, you can adjust them to work together to keep your truck tracking straight, and to damp feedback into your steering from the road. Having a stabilizer on the drag link and tie rod is a much more effective way to damp steering than having duals that are both on the tie rod.

A true dual (one on the drag link and one on the tie rod) stabilizer set up is ALWAYS the preferred route over having two on the tie rod like most of the dual kits on the market. For trucks getting driven off road hard we recommend both, but for a daily driver you only need one. We recommend the low mount for Fords with Toyo MT tires and the high mount for everything else!

So what would you recommend for a 17 F250 with a 2” lift and leveling kit on 37s R20s? I don’t necessarily have a right or left pull but when I hit uneven surfaces, my steering wheel tries to take me either way. Thank you.

I would try a steering box stabilizer from synergy or Spohn performance. They’re meant to increase the rigidity of where your power steering box is mounted to your pitman arm… Mine helped me reduce steering slop and bump steer ✨ The phenomenon you are describing✨ significantly.

I have your 2.5 level system on my 16 3500 along with the track bar and sway bar upgrade. I have 35x12.5 toyos at2's. Noticed a slight loose feeling for a split second everytime I turn right. somethings seems to be slightly loose? I took the steering stabilizer off and it seems to contract and expand smoothly. Not sure what else it could be. I guessed the stabilizer at first but I'm not so sure now. Apparently one lower ball joint is ready to be replaced 100k miles bit it was still good enough as to where the truck took the alignment just fine after the level instal. Any suggestions?

Hey, I got a leveling kit on my 08 ram with the T style linkage. Replaced, shocks, shocks, adjusted trackbar, tie rod ends, drag link ends and got a fox steering stabilizer and now i have dead wobble. Kept the same stock wheels and tires. Ball joints don’t have any weird play on them. Got an alignment as well. What can i do to fix this new dead wobble?

Hey there I have a question.... I have a 2016 F-250 super duty 6.2L gas ..... my stock tire size was 245/70R17 I replaced them with 285/55R20 factory take offs from a 2017 ..... which is a factory option truck has 65,000 miles now and I do a lot of high way driving..... I do not have a death wobble..... should I add a duel kit for more stability and piece of mind???????

Honestly we’d just enjoy the truck as it is! When yours gets tired, make the move to this: www.cjcoffroad.com/Carli-08-16-Ford-Super-Duty-High-Mount-Stabilizer-p/cs-fhmss-08.htm

@CJCOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
We typically only recommend doing both the upper and lower Carli for trucks that see hard dirt miles. For basic daily driving, having both is a bit overkill!

Geat video. Running 37's with a 2.5 Leveling kit on my 2019 F250, looking at purchasing the Fox 2.0 Dual Stabilizers. What is your thought on this setup to prevent radial pull to the right?
@CJCOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
You’ll want to run a Carli high mount to correct for a right hand pull. The dual Fox 2.0 setups won’t be able to account for a right pull, which is why we always prefer the Carli high/low setup!

Do you recommend the Fox PERFORMANCE SERIES 2.0 STABILIZER TS for a 2017 2500HD L5P Denali. I will be lifting with a 3" BDS Coil over kit with CST Tie rods and Nitto Ridge Grapplers @ 35x12.5x20's. This is a IFS suspension of course and just wanted to hear your recommendations.

If I have no radial pull but want a stabilizer, could I run the low mount or high mount? Or are those only for when you have a pull to the left or right?
@CJCOffRoad2 жыл бұрын
Either one can be a neutral stabilizer at 40-70 psi of nitrogen charge actually. It's just the people with a pull that need to specifically choose one or the other.

@@CJCOffRoadHi, what if I have a slight pull at low speeds? A pull to the left and to the right, do I need a carli nitrogen high and low steering shock or could I get away with a regular shock?

You’ll want to watch this video and track down the real source of the play on the truck before buying anything else. That way you know exactly what to replace. Our guess is you have some tired joints in the steering! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn7PhWRtgNStgKc

The problem is the steering box. Ford uses a Cardone steering box which are junk. Try looking at a Redhead steering box. It has tighter spindles and you will see less play in the steering.

So I have a 2020 ram 3500 with Toto 37 12.5 20 and a right hand pull. What steering stabilizer do you recommend and what is the price?
@CJCOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
With a right hand pull you want a Carli high mount. Those will be available in early 2021 so keep an eye on our social media!

I have a completely stock 2020 F250 4x4 and I plan on leaving it completely stock. (No lift, leveling, or tire size changes) Am I understanding correctly that a Fox ATS stabilizer would make the steering more stiff. I don’t like how easy it steers I want to feel a little more resistance in the steering
@jeffuyen7930 Жыл бұрын
Just curious if you got your answer I’m in the same situation
@80spyder1 Жыл бұрын
@@jeffuyen7930 I installed a Fox ATS stabilizer. I really like it. You have to get under the truck of course to turn a screw to adjust the steering stiffness but once you get it adjusted you can just forget about it.
