I purchased the clock last year, first time I've owned a stove and it's been outstanding, the only good thing about winter is I get to use the stove lol

Sadly on KZbin you can’t add pictures. But I’m glad to hear it’s been good so far!

Very informative video. I’m looking for a wood burner that isn’t in constant use for the living room. Traditional style. Budget £700 Which would you suggest.

It didn’t make your top 3, but I’m curious as to how you would rate the DG Ivar 5 against the Heta 5? I’ve been delighted with the Ivar - my first stove and (with what I learned on your channel), it’s been really easy. I chose it because of its reviews generally but what stood out for me was the single air control and its range of movement/adjustment.
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
The Ivar is really excellent. The competition was fierce in this case, but the Ivar is right up there with them.

Which 5kw stoves give the best heat output? We have an fdc 5 wide at the moment and dont rate it at all. I know the clock blithfield 5 is a good one. Im told the salt fire are good for heat output. Just would like your opinion.
@TheTortoise24 күн бұрын
Well this is quite a tricky thing to advise on, because it’s not that there are big differences really. The Clock for example, appears good, because in reality it’s a 7/8kw stove, that has been deliberately tested as a 5kw. So it’s not that it’s necessarily better in this area, it’s more that it has been underrated. Given what you’ve said, it sounds like your stove is simply too small for your room. This is not uncommon, because often people will want a 5kw to avoid a lab air vent. If you’re in this bracket then the largest and most powerful stoves that are officially rated as 5kw are things like: Clock Blithfield 5 Heta Ambition 5 Saltfire BigNut 5 Parkray Aspect 6 & 7 I quite liked the Nordpeis Bergen too.

Totally agreed on clock Blithfield and heta ambition in terms of black box. I’ve got two Ambitions in my house at home. Must say though, the Dean forge Croft I’ve just run is incredible and I’d add that to this bunch in the black box section
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
I’m with you on that too, the Croft was the first stove I filmed for KZbin. It was superb then, and still is now!

Hi Gabriel, I have bought a Woodwarm Fireview stove largely on the back of your reviews. It is a fantastic stove. However I also purchased the Woodwarm thermometer but I think it is calibrated for the Phoenix stove and mainly stove top temperatures. The “optimum” range is 200 deg C to 375 deg C. This is far higher than you suggest and has been impossible to maintain without continuous wide open running. I am thinking I should ditch this thermometer and replace it with a standard flue thermometer. What do you think?
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
That’s interesting. I’m genuinely unsure, it could be that the fire is genuinely not getting upto temperature (which can happen with a new stove), but equally you’re experienced so I trust your view. Annoyingly the only way you will know is to try it 😬. Maybe you could borrow a friends?

It’s on the list. Clock are sending me one, but they have been revising the handle, and wanted to get me the updated version. I believe it’s out now, and I should have this, this year.

I’ve not encountered that stove, but over the coming years, I’d like to try everything 😆
@JohnB-b6mАй бұрын
For modern / Scandi cylinder type, other reviewers list Termatech, Morso or better quality / value Hwam. Be good to see them tested. Some have flat (ie non curved) glass which is said to be less stressed that curved, so safer for constant use as replacement curved prices can be wild. Thoughts? And thanks.
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
Yea, there’s still so many things to get my hands on! And I really hope to, soon. We’ve been working really hard this year, and bringing in more help to try and speed things up. Hopefully next year we’ll have some scope to work with these and several other brands too, that I’ve been speaking to. There’s still time this year too though!
@TerryJamesColeАй бұрын
We are in the midst of moving home (which by all accounts seems to be falling through). Should a small miracle occur the first thing on the list is to replace the 2 large wood burners in the house and it would be the Ambition 5 and Clock I would go for. One of each sounds ideal!
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
Sounds like a bit of a dream team! Let’s hope you have luck on your side! 😆

I read a comment from a sweep about this subject and he disregarded the clock straightaway, said if was a lovely stove etc but after seeing ones that have had some heavy use he said they no where near as good as a clearview or woodwarm for flat out use they just didn’t stand up to it and were in bad condition from heavy use
@TheTortoiseАй бұрын
I’ve heard this too. However, to be fair, this was caused by perhaps a handful of mk1 Blithfields. All of which had been severely over-fired, and I also believe they were replaced under warranty too. I don’t know this to be the case, but it is what I have been told. In regard to the Clock I looked at, it was a mk2. It looked well sorted with regard to this type of use. I’m also not aware of any issues, and I have spoken to a number of people and shops that have put this stove through its paces too.
