Unfortunately, the drive-by developers who come in demolish the homes and put up "modern white boxes" don't care about the character of the existing neighborhood or the tree canopy. One can do a complete teardown and rebuild while still keeping the flavor of the existing neighborhood. Greed and profit however won't allow it. The one good thing however is that the new construction by code is better to withstand hurricanes.
