Well the thing with the Gensect movie's Mewtwo is that it's NOT the Mewtwo we know from the first movie. In Japan, there was actually an anime special that came out before the movie in place of an episode showing this Mewtwo's creation.

To put simply, yes, they can reproduce, but we don't quite know how because it's nothing like the sexual reproduction we are used to. It could be asexual, or something else. We have no clue. So, it doesn't have what we know as gender, but that doesn't meant there is not more feminine or masculine types of however it is they reproduce. This is canon. Just look into the lore more.

personally i felt the mewtwo from genesect and the ledgend awakens and the mewtwo from the first film were two diiferent mewtwo considering one sounds male and the other sounds female not to mention one was implied to be created by team team plasma and the original was made by team rocket

Yeah, pretty sure this is canon, or at least HEAVILY implied. This neatly explains why it doesn't know who Ash is. Also, at this point I've completely forgotten whether the OG Mewtwo is still erasing everyone's memories of him after they part. Granted, that then raises the question of HOW they were able to make a new Mewtwo, given that the lab and presumably all the records on his creation were destroyed.

You are correct. I believe it is canon that the Mewtwo from Mewtwo Strikes Back/Mewtwo Returns AND the Mewtwo from the Genesect Movie are not one in the same. Even if their backstories are almost 100% identical. The Major issue with the Genesect movie is that after Mewtwo Returns, Mewtwo did not erase Ash's memory of it, SO ASH SHOULD WHAT A MEWTWO IS!!! That's the major issue with that film! But then of course this is part of the season that also decided to say "F*CK YOU LONG TIME VIEWERS! ASH IS STILL ONLY 10 YEARS OLD!"

Lucario and the Mystery of Mew always gets a win for me. The main plot is kicked off by a well intentioned misunderstanding rather than by yet another generic take over the world type villain. The central obstacles Ash and the group faces are the distance to the tree and the natural defences of the tree itself, which allow for exploration of varied locations and character exploration. The background given to the Pokemon world is amazing, with the war, the Tree of Beginning, Sir Aaron’s solution and his relationship with Lucario that’s revisited throughout the film as Lucario observes the parallels between Ash and Sir Aaron. The message at the end is also of note, that some places should remain as they are instead of exposed to the modern world. Just the presence of Ash, Brock, May, Max, Kidd and Team Rocket nearly fatally damaged the tree, and they weren’t tourists. I also love the end song, We Will Meet Again. The concept of the time flower is clever and facilitates what are effectively flashbacks. Sure, the plot takes a while to kick in and the team’s Pokemon having fun was a bit padded, but the film looks absolutely gorgeous. Lucario becomes a fully fleshed out character with his own arc, easily the most interesting focus Pokemon in a movie since Mewtwo. He’s completely sentient and is confused about coming out in a new century, forced to deal with the perceived betrayal of his beloved master while assisting someone else who shares his general appearance. It’s only after Max reaches out to him and he sees the lengths Ash is going to in the goal of rescuing Pikachu, as well as learning why Sir Aaron sealed him away Lucario lets go of his anger.

I just watched Lucario and the Mystery of Mew today, and it was beautiful. I loved it even more than Pokemon: the first movie. The animation was stunning, the side characters were not awful to watch, and the legendaries actually did something, instead of just being "cameos". Overall this was the best movie about Pokemon I have ever watched.

These are contests of strength and speed and power, sometimes strategy. But it's just a contest, like a soccer game or a chess match or a spar. We never see Pokémon fight for their lives, certainly not by that point. Like, "if I don't win this battle I will die." They faint, they don't die. A trainer can heal them up, or the Pokémon can recover after some time. The only Pokémon we'd seen confirmed dead from violence was Marowak. That was a big deal. Now enter the clones. And you've got to understand there's some cultural horror attached to clones. These aren't just another of the species. That's not just another Pikachu, that's a copy of the same Pikachu. This is an individual meant to replace, not add, REPLACE. These are Stepford Wives. Mewtwo has taught them that they must kill their templates to earn their place in the world, their right to exist. Only they haven't really been taught anything. All the clones, save for the three starter evolutions, are newborns. So you've got all these newborn Pokémon who have learned nothing about themselves or their own power and only know that they have to kill the one that looks like them if they want to continue to live. Life is, after all, wonderful, but they haven't lived long enough to even know why. That is horrifying, and sad. Pikachu is the only one who refuses to fight, and it seems clear that it doesn't think of its clone as a replacement and doesn't want to kill it. Meowth is the only one clever enough to convince itself and its clone to not fight using logic. Pokémon aren't meant to fight for their right to life. People shouldn't have to, either.

Huh. On a side note, is it wrong that I like Mewtwo's voice in Genesect: the Legend Awakens? While Mewtwo's technically genderless, I noticed both male and female elements to the Psychic type's design: Mewtwo has a masculine face and a feminine body shape, so whether the voice is male or female doesn't matter to me. Keep in mind though, this is coming from a guy who DOESN'T despise Slippy Toad from Star Fox with a passion.

Actually, the Mewtwo in Genesect movie is a completely different Mewtwo than the one we know. Heck, there's even a short of it before the movie's release that it's a different Mewtwo. Thankfully the Mewtwo from the first movie is returning in the upcoming movie next year and if they bring this Mewtwo, it'll be amazing and I will forgive this movie slightly.

Lucario and the Mystery of Mew was actually my first Pokémon movie. I say this a lot, but my first Nintendo game was Super Smash Bros Brawl. I loved Lucario there, so I was surprised to see he had his own movie. I watched it, and I loved it! I was encouraged to play the Pokémon games and watch the anime. Lucario became my favorite Pokémon.

Honestly, I think the Sun and Moon anime is pretty awesome. It makes sense that Ash would be amazed by all these new things, because, well, they are VERY different from things he's been exposed to before, and it's not like he stays that way each time. It also covers some less happy-go-lucky topics such as death, which Ash also has to deal with to an extent, such as Ash feeling Litten's pain when Stoutland "went missing". And for once, Ash actually takes some time to relax and enjoy his journey for the vacation it really is, instead of focusing on the old formula: going from gym to gym to collect badges and challenge the Pokemon League. Ash is perfectly aware of the trials, but they aren't going anywhere and he seems to know that. And as for the art style, it seems to reflect all of this: a fun, more expressive art style that has given us expressions we haven't seen before and adds to the expressiveness of each character. I think (emphasis on THINK) something that a lot of people don't seem to understand is that Sun and Moon is MEANT to be different from its predecessors. People end up asking for something different, and when they get something different, they start complaining because it's different and not what they're used to. I will admit that some of if not a lot of the comedy seems forced, but in my eyes that's a small thing. Anyways, that's my opinion on the SM anime. And to those who actually read through to the end, thank you for your time.

That's what I was thinking! People hear the same things about it, and assume that's all it is without even giving it a chance. My friend was like that until we binged the first two arcs. Oh, he changed his mind. Took a while to convince him to watch it with me. At the very least, I think it's better than Best Wishes, even if that one had my favorite Meowth episodes of him literally joining the gang for a short time.

I miss the English dub localized by 4Kids Entertainment. Even if their reputation consists of them kind of bowlderizing anime with some dub changes, censorship, text deletion, shrinking the depth of a situation or story, and... JELLY FILLED DONUTS! They did give some of the anime's they localized really great charm as they still tried to stay faithful to them, the voice actors chosen were usually well casted and put in a great performance, and they still left in plenty of action. Their best animes were Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Sonic X.

4Kids Yugioh and Sonic X were absolute garbage and completely irredeemable. Kanto Pokémon was pretty much their only beyond decent dub because they fit the source material for once.

They made Shaman King quite faithful, but got backlash from moral guardians as a result of lifting their bowlderizing nature a bit. And you know, the 4Kids dialogue in the Yu-Gi-Oh dub made it more faithful to the manga. And 4Kids Sonic X voice cast is the main highlight for me, and the original Japanese version is obviously millions of miles better than the dub.

You know, when 4Kids did the dubbing for One Piece, they actually never wanted to dub One Piece in the first place because they found it way too violent and strong with sexual content and maturity for them to make it for children, but they were legally forced to by Toei Animation so it can air in the US as soon as possible or else Toei won't give them localization rights for Ojamajo Doremi. This led to 4Kids putting in very minimal effort until they could legally drop the license.

4kids Kirby Dub was easily their best. As for One Piece even if 4kids dubbed it like Funimation, the show still would have never been able to compete with DBZ. Toei were just too dumb & impatient when it came to One Piece's Dub, they got what they deserved from 4kids. To understand One Piece's popularity in Japan it's an anime/manga series that feels vastly different. It's pretty much the same reason Avatar: The Last Airbender was so popular in the US. 4kids knew One Piece was never going to catch on here & just did what they had to so that they wouldn't get sued & could keep Magical Doremi.

My favourite Pokemon movie is 'I Choose You!' , its a brilliant take on how Ash met Pikachu! EDIT: Not to mention that it comments on real world issues, like abandoning pets, because at one pointin the film, Cross (who is basically this films Gary) is raising a Charmander but once he finds an Insinoroar, he tells the Charmander to wait for him, IN THE RAIN, effectively leaving him behind and basically killing him :( And the companions in the film are nicer than Misty or Brock in the Anime.

Leaving the Charmander in the rain is a call-back to Damien, Ash's Charizard's OT. Guy gave that poor thing PTSD (which is why Charizard is such a jerk later. Right after he evolves into Charmeleon, he has to fight that Paras. Ash tells him to "go easy on it", making him feel insulted. This stung, and left an impact--it made him remember not being good enough for Damien).

Mewtwo Strikes Back isn't so bad if you watch the Origin Of Mewtwo full English before the 4Kids movie. 4Kids cut a good 10 minutes out of the beginning and they later released it as a bonus for the direct to DVD Mewtwo Returns under the name Origin of Mewtwo. It follows a baby Mewtwo still forming in his tank and his meaningful conversations about life with a dead girl's soul named Amber2 (Ai2 in Japanese). I fucking cried when I first seen it. I do believe that you can watch the full 10 minutes on KZbin.

Actually, Ash does know Mewtwo, just not the female Mewtwo. He knew somewhat what Mewtwo is, but he personally doesn't know who the second Mewtwo is. It was even heavily implied that he recognized her as a Mewtwo, but not the one he knows. If he didn't then Ash would have said "who are you", but instead he said "you're..." implying he would say "you're Mewtwo".

Pretty sure Hoopa is supposed to be a genie, unbound Hoopa is a djynn or a genie who no longer is enslaved and required to do its master's bidding. As for my favorite Pokemon movie, that would be the 3rd one. It looks at a young girl trying to cope with the loss of her mother and father, while being in a world full of powerful reality-bending creatures. Ash plays a legit part in it, not being a hero trying to save the world for once.

I really like Pokémon 3 because it is personal for Ash. Unown, willing to make Molly happy, create an Entei to serve as her father (because he playfully called himself Entei) after he went MIA and then kidnap Delia to serve as her mother as this was her biggest impression as a mother seeing pictures of her with Ash.Then it's up to Ash & Co. to go after her, not because he is the "chosen one" but rather because she is his mom. Also, the crystals look gorgeous in this movie. On the flipside my least favorite is Kyurem and the Swords of Justice. Every single character is unsufferable and they took the sting out of Black Kyurem and White Kyurem by allowing him to change formes at will, no Zekrom, no Reshiram, no DNA Splicer, no nothing! And Keldeo's Resolute form really feels like plot convinience rather than character growth. I get it he's supposed to be a parallel to d'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers, being the new naïve member of the group and what not, but he learns nothing and Ash is there because! I dislike it so much I quit Pokémon movies after I saw it.

Hey, Strider and Robin. A few of us who've watch "Genesect Awakens" think that its Mewtwo isn't the same one that Ash met in Kanto and Johto, but a different one created in a different experiment. This is based on clips of this Mewtwo's backstory which show her (this one has a more feminine voice, so her) fleeing after destroying a lab and being saved by the wild Pokémon nearby. Mewtwo from the first movie got picked up by Giovanni after his destructive rampage of the lab. Just thought I'd let you know.

I personally found I choose you to just be a mess. While the animation and voice acting were good, the rainbow hero/marshadow side plot were botched up, cross was Paul without the depth, the score was forgettable (except for the opening and ending themes), and that scene where pikachu.... you know... talks really took me out of the moment. I know, the movie's 3 exclusive human characters weren't that good. The plot was poorly done with Butterfree being done solely for filler, when Ash could have caught more than 2 Pokemon. He caught a Fearow in the Electric Tale of Pikachu Manga & could have easily had Pidgeotto like the anime yet had neither. There was no Squirtle Squad, or even a 2 second clip of him catching Bulbasaur. More than anything it felt like a 13 episode reboot anime that only had enough funding for a movie. "I Choose You" was clearly the worst Pokemon movie if you look past the attempts at nostalgia.

If it was really supposed to be a nostalgia ride for those of us who grew up watching the old 90s version, there was absolutely no reason they couldn't have brought back Misty, Brock, Gary Oak, and even some of the side characters like Richie, Duplica, and even AJ. I mean they brought back Team Rocket (and didn't do anything with them at that) so I mean come on. And you know, it woudl've been nice if they at least brought back the old voice actors for just this movie. Veronica Taylor is surprisingly still able to use her Ash Ketchum voice (she even used it at a 2018 Q&A panel this year). It's pretty safe to say she'll never voice Ash in the show again and most of us have accepted that but it would've been great to at least hear her one more time and that movie was the perfect opportunity for that as a hoorah for the original fans.

I grew up with the original anime and 4Kids dub. I have been a fan since it was dubbed into English. I was worried about I Choose You being bad because it was being hated on so much. I didn't have Disney XD and the closest theater showing it for the limited release was almost 2 hours away. I invested in a DVD copy and it's become my personal favorite movie in my Pokemon movie collection. I know that you haters are entitled to your opinion but I really loved it. As far as the Rainbow Hero plot and Marshadow plot being pointless I suppose you have to see it multiple times to actually get that it does fit. And as for "no Brock or Misty" and the other characters "not having much backstory" doesn't bother me much. And I feel that we are given just enough of Sorrel and Veriety to make them memorable and relatable and it's one of those movies that the more you watch it the more you catch on to the point of the movie. It's not perfect by any means and I am not trying to change the minds of the people who don't care for it but I like seeing Ash struggling with doing the right thing. So many films have him doing the right thing automatically but seeing Ash question himself after losing to Cross and getting angry and the Rainbow Wing losing its color because of Ash having his own internal struggle and not being influenced by anything other than his own selfish need to "win". Too many times we have seen Ash be a "good sport" when he loses and when you see Ash having a meltdown over defeat it's more "realistic" seeing a darker side of Ash coming from his own heart.

Have you guys actually watched SM? In Japanese you can really tell he is a character with actual depth at many parts, he gets very very frustrated to the point where you actually lashed out during a battle after being consistently trashed on by Nanu. He tackled Faba after he was trying to put many peoples life in danger. He was brought to tears after being completely put to shame by Nanu in his first battle against him. He points out how he isn’t taking himself seriously to The Masked Royal in episode 63 (only in the Japanese version though, the dub changed the script making his speech about Litten). Saying he has no personality or depth is just wrong. BW? Yeah he has no depth at all. Xy(z)? Sometimes he came off as a generic Shounen protagonist but he had quite a bit of depth at the end of the series.

I think what makes "Giratina & The Sky Warrior" so much more tragic is the fact that this is a DIRECT SEQUEL to "Rise of Darkrai!" H-How!? Can someone PLEASE remind me what the point of Shaymin was? Just...in general? It had no reason to be here at all and is the least interesting Mythical Legendary out of the Sinnoh trio of Darkrai, it, and Arceus, far as I'm concerned! IMO: I thought HCoA was a great film. The VA was nice, the story was well paced and understandable, and i grew to like hoopa. He's like a goofy kid. The battle with the legendaries were satisfying, and the ending was pretty good. Yeah go and hate me, but i loved this movie.

I always assumed that the Mewtwo seen in Genesect and the Legend Awakened was different from the Mewtwo seen in Mewtwo Strikes Back, mostly because of the different characterization and wildly different voices.

My personal favorite is The rise of Darkrai. I think it has a beautiful story with great animation and music, and a character that is basically a mix between Gilderoy Lockhart from Harry Potter, Gaston from beauty and the beast and Roman from Sander sides that I loved to hate. I was disappointed when it wasn't on the list

I definitely agree with your pick for the worst one. I've seen almost every pokemon movie there is, but Clash of Ages was SO bad that I just stopped watching them altogether after seeing it. And what's even worse is that the movie actually got off to a pretty good start! We're immediately introduced to Hoopa in the opening, and it appears as a giant, intimidating, mysterious, unstoppable monster that's capable of one-shotting other immensely powerful legendaries. The atmosphere was building, the visuals were awesome, and everybody in the movie was already panicking in fear of Hoopa. ...And then Ash and co. were weakly shoehorned into the plot yet again, and we're reintroduced to Hoopa, only this time, it's much more annoying and much less destructive! I can't believe how quickly that movie hit rock bottom!

TL:DR I have faint memories of a couple of movies and I want to see you do a story review of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. I thought this was a very good video to watch. I only have faint memories of Jirachi’s Wish and The Rise of Darkrai, but I’m glad I got to see these reviews because I think you guys do some of the best detailed reviews I’ve seen. I will heavily consider watching some of the best top 3 movies when I have some free time I know that you don’t review video games that much, but I would love for you to do a review on the story of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky because I believe it’s one of the best Pokémon stories that has been released to this day. All three of the games are brother and sister games much like Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, etc. However, if you want the best experience possible for the story and the gameplay, I would highly recommend Explorers of Sky because on top of fixing nagging gameplay issues, it introduces special episodes that shine the light on some other characters as well as answering a big question that was left unanswered in the climax of the main story. If you can, play Explorers of Sky and do a review of the story. I can guarantee it’s Pokémon Storytelling at its finest. You do great work with these review videos and I can’t wait to see the review if you so choose to do one.

​@@kadan2889 There's entire groups dedicated to PMD, like on facebook, reddit etc. If you look hard enough you can find them. PMD series is probably the most popular Pokemon spin-off series out there, it went on for a decade. Whether or not the spin-off franchise is done/dead remains to be seen, but most people would say it's dead due to SPMD/Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon being the last game in the franchise that was released in 2015 and with it even saying that it's the definitive PMD game on the back of the box cover, it seems to have ended on a high note. It's unlikely we'll see another PMD game anytime soon, unless they bring it back from the dead in the near future, although I do wonder what the team behind the franchise are doing at Spike Chunsoft, because they haven't been doing anything since SPMD, so it does make you wonder. Oh well, sorry for this paragraph being so long.

@@asillyrapscallion Well it is BW Ash.^-^;;;; The same Ash who decided to scan Corphish and Buizel in one episode with a pokedex despite owning them in prior series. Also Ash scanned Scolipede in this series in a few episodes. The first time was fine but when he acted like he needed to scan it again and again in later episodes, it got kind of funny.XD He isn't too smart in quite a few cases in this series when you think about it. He went into one gym believing he could beat the gym with only 1 Pokemon and when that Pokemon was knocked out, he sat on the floor in deep thought. Then ran out of the gym to get snivy then made an error in the battle which knocked out snivy then sat on the ground again only for Pikachu to go right up to him in frustration and literally scream at him. This Ash in this movie is the same Ash as that one. I am very lenient on Ash usually and even I felt BW Ash didn't seem to have much brains in this series in certain episodes................... So him forgetting what a Mewtwo is, isn't surprising to me.=/ Oddly I enjoyed the series despite this. There were a few good points despite the weird stuff.lol

In my opinion I kind of felt they stopped caring about the movies after Sinnoh, the Black and White movie was pretty good in my opinion and the Kyurem movie was meh. Also I feel that Hoenn consistently had good movies with Jirachi Wish Maker, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew along with it's mini movie Mirage Master, Destiny Deoxys and Manaphy and the Temple of the Sea. While I do feel that the last one isn't as good as the others I still feel it's a very heartfelt movie with May and Manaphy's relationship.

Noice! Great to see another collab between you two! And to me the worst Pokémon movie will always be the Arceus movie. Making the God of Pokémon sound like a deranged lunatic, as well as having a cliché and boring plot involving time travel? Next! While the best for movie will always be the first movie, ‘cause nothing can beat where it all began. Also to clarify, the Mewtwo in the Genesect movie is a different Mewtwo than the one Ash and co. have come across that was created by Team Plasma. The movie still sucks though, but it was really interesting seeing Mega Mewtwo Y before mega evolution was even a thing.

The only reason I liked the Hoopa and Giratina movies was because Regigigas is my favorite legendary, plus you got to hear his super cool robotic "voice" in the hoopa movie! Hearing it's cry was the best part of that movie xD

Huge fan of Pokemon 4Ever, personally. The time travel mechanics are really interesting, the bonding moments with Sam and Ash are really heartwarming, and Celebi's revival scene is super emotional. The reveal that Sam is a past Professor Oak is crazy awesome, too, and adds a layer of depth and intrigue to a character people usually overlook/take for granted. It really makes you wonder; if Oak knew that Ash was destined to have a Pikachu, did he deliberately hide the other starters from him? Honestly, it's a great movie overall. Maybe I'm just biased since the first time I ever saw it I was sick on Christmas with a 104 degree fever and spent most of the movie delirious and sobbing from the sheer *emotion* of it all. There's still video of that on my dad's old camcorder somewhere, lol.

Though I completely understand why you dislike Giratina and the Sky Warrior, I mmyself really enjoyed it. Shaymin was really annoying at first, but it was nice how they let her character develop into appreciating and becoming friends with Ash.

I personally enjoyed Giratina and the Sky Warrior. In fact, the Gen4 films are probably my favorites. Might be because of nostalgia, but those films had feeling of epicness seeing the Gods of Pokemon duke it out and it being up to Ash, Dawn and Brock to save the world or town. And the Zoroark film is pretty adorable
