Cool stuff. Here's my top 30. All of the albums are metal, but that's what resonates with me, and I haven't heard much of anything else besides the top acclaimed pop and indie albums, which didn't do much for me. I've only listened to like 50 albums from this year, as I've spent much more time digging in to many 90's to 2010's albums. In my opinion, there are no 10/10 albums this year, but a handful of 9-9.5/10. The past 3 years, I scored one 10/10 each year (Ad Nauseam - Imperative Imperceptible Impulse, Krallice - Crystalline Exhaustion and Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite). I simply rank upon what I enjoy listening to the most, not what is "objectively best". 30. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To 29. SUMAC - The Healer 28. Banger list, mate. Enjoyed nearly everything you've got included here! And our numeros unos are the same! Been a massive Ulcerate fan ever since they dropped Everything Is Fire way back in the day and they haven't missed a beat thus far! Your description of their sound was spot on - they basically infuse classic death metal with the post-metal soundscapes of Neurosis and the wacky disso riffs of DsO, and it just works so damn well. If there was ever one band that would be branded 'The Harbingers of Apocalypse', it would be Ulcerate for sure. Also, I noticed you mention elitism in your video, so I went ahead and checked your recent video on that (the prog in death metal one), and I am confused. Blood Incantation and Tomb Mold getting hate? What? Perhaps I don't ever venture into those corners of the Internet, but I've seen nothing but praise for the two bands' output since day 1. Weird. I get not liking a few of the popular 'sterile-sounding' tech death bands like Obscura (or every Muenzner death metal project ever for that matter, except Necrophagist, which was never his project to begin with) or Archspire, but once again, that's just a handful streamlined entries from the subgenre. Anyone remember the band 'Death' lmao? Because they clearly never had any tech or prog sensibilities in their sound, right? Yikes.

Great job! You got me to revisit the Ulcerate, which I loved, but sort of crept down my list as I got distracted absorbing the 100 other metal releases that came after, but yes, it's a special album, as is the Iotunn. Big fan of the Eternal album too.

Ulcerate is just 🤌 When they drop a new album it's AOTY for me. They are unstoppable. This new album si a perfect mix of the previous two albums, and the last 3 tracks are the grooviest songs they've written in possibly ever.
