This is only my view :). Dane can't cure everyone's problems with one video, so I am not criticising. The exercises in the video are not for beginners who this video is aimed at. My thoughts if you are a beginner and looking at some points raised here to address.. 4: Bradford press: doesn't mimic Snatch/Jerk bar path or build strength. Do BTN push jerk, you'll retract scaps & push heavy weight, be careful lowering bar when doing maximal loads/poundages. Hand spacing width dependent on flexibility & arm length, will be somewhere between Snatch and Clean grip. 3: Taipei pulls useful for all the reasons stated, except posterior/rear delts. 2: Snatch press: best for intermediate/advanced lifters, look at bar crash of the guy in the video at 11.01 with an empty bar because he doesn't have the strength or mobility. I'm assuming XXXX wants you to get the mind to muscle/body connection in the bottom position of the full snatch as you push up with your legs and keep your core tight you can actually push with your arms and shoulders too. Better to do Snatch Balance and Drop Snatch for strength and stability and if you don't feel the pushing I mentioned above. 1: Scott's Press: people struggle with heavy weights overhead because shoulders are too weak. Do standing barbell military presses (experiment with grip width) and alternate with seated overhead dumbell presses, they'll give you strength. Don't worry about it making you slow, the strength will actually make you quicker. These are only my views remember. I've read all the Russian manuals, trained with some Russian olympic weightlifters and with 2 (non-Russian) Olympians, one of which is a Gold medalist. Beginners without strong shoulders need to supplement with: Front Barbell Military Press, Snatch Balance and Drop Snatch, BTN push press, bodybuilding rear delt exercises (even the Chinese do them). Best exercises for anything depends on your weakness :)

Excellent points - I not an Olympic style lifter. I am using an empty 10lb curl bar for the snatch press building form & mobility; will increase to a 20lb straight bar & so on as I progress. I'm using 7lbs for the 17 reps/ 4 sets of Scott's press although my DB press is 55. I am using these to build balance, mobility, injury prevention & strength for my recreational activities

Isn't the Taipei Pull the same as the Snatch Grip High Pull?
@2o3ief2 ай бұрын
Certainly comes off the tongue more than hang snatch high pull. The tai pai lifter is getting it above her collar bone, whereas the guy is blue is getting it to his chest. Getting it to your chest is sufficient for a high pull so as an indication to make sure you go above the collar bone it makes sense. Also seen them called panda pulls 😂

How is a tai pei pull different from a snatch high pull? And if the main goal was rear delt hypertrophy, would going from a hang be better? If so, wouldn't one want to go at least AT the knee so that there is some force going perpendicular to the torso? I feel that any kind of high pull from a vertical torso will use way more traps than rear delts.

He starts wider than other athletes and has longer legs for his body weight which affects his knee movement, but every lifter has certain idiosyncrasies that differ from lifter to lifter. Jake here snatched double body weight so it doesn’t negatively affect his performance. Good question 👍
