The Arctic fox is at home in this frozen wasteland, but how is that red fox even alive?
@vincentx2850
@vincentx2850 4 жыл бұрын
Three reasons: climate change, the decline of wolves in the Arctic due to hunting, and the abundance of food near human settlement. So basically its because of us mostly - and red fox is quite resourceful as well.
@markassko6426
@markassko6426 4 жыл бұрын
@@vincentx2850 1) red foxes can easily survive in -40c, they lived for thousands of years in the russian taiga and had no problem with such temperature, so i dont think that climate change itself forced red foxes to move north because even my great grandfather told stories of red and greyish foxes wondering up north in the russian arctic. 2) wolves in the eurasian arctic in 1950-1980s were hunted much more in both numbers and percentage compared to these days and red foxes are still much more likely to be seen these days in the arctic than they are in the past which makes less sense in the context that wolves are both more abundant in taiga and tundra than they were in the past. 3) most arctic human settlements are temporary and made by fast profit seeking companies therefore they might be extremely disclosed or the opposite which is filled with food for animals, but its a blind dart so we cant factually claim that its a solid reason for the red foxes moving up north. I agree that milder climate gives more opportunities for taiga animals to move up north but i disagree if you claim that they were not able to move north before. In these days, permafrost is getting weaker, trees are starting to grow more north than before, basically tundra is becoming taiga-nized which is related to climate change, but yeah tundra becoming taiga is probably main reason.
