I love tiatinium backup! I used the freeze only for the apps which broke during rooting. I also froze the software update because it became a real pain in the ass when it would try to update my phone from 4.2.2 all the time. At least once every 2 days until I froze it. It works great and I love it.

TB is very cool I have used it to restore all my log in information and other data to apps after flashing a ROM. I often do it by extracting the data from nandroid and then restoring it to certain apps.👍👍

When I get a new phone I: 1. turn it to see if it works and install the drivers on my pc. 2. Install superuser aka get root 3. Install a custom recovery (usually TWRP) 4. Nandroid 5. Flash. I stopped running stock once I found out about root back in the Samsung Moment days (such a bad device).

Here's a few recommendations I have for apps that need or can use root access. Adaway. Tired of those free apps that have all those annoying ads that make using the app hard if not impossible to use? Adaway blocks those out. I use it to block the ads from the popular Flashlight app. Requires root to work. For a root explorer I recommend ES File Explorer. I used it to customize my boot animation, boot sound, and shutdown animation. Don't have to be rooted to use it but root access does allow you to customize those hidden system files. DU Speed booster. With root access I was able to remove all the bloatware crap that came on my phone. Doesn't need root access to use but having that allows removal of that crapware. For those wondering my phone is a ZTE Z998 Mustang running on the AT&T Go Phone network. Phone is 4G LTE and hella fast on it. With the unlimited plan I use I have unlimited talk, text, and 2.5GB of data monthly. I can also tether over WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB.

If you have a ps3 wireless controller and a bluetooth dongle.. You can get a program called "motionjoy" and use your ps3 controller wireless on your computer. For games or to control the mouse and such.

OK, but taking one step back....I have an HTC One M8 that as been rooted and a CM developer build installed. I have about a dozen apps and none of them is Google Playstore app so I log in through my google account. There I can see all the apps I had installed before the root. So I select install on any of them and it asks me to pick which device I want it installed on (this is a replacement phone). My model is listed three times. I have tried selecting each one in turn and Google says the app will be installed but it never arrives. I'm guessing that two of the three listings are for previous M8s I have owned and the third is for the pre-rooted one I have now. Any idea how I register the rooted M8 with Google so apps actually arrive?

The geek doesnt know what hes talking about: you dont need to be rooted to use a game controller. Try the Zeemote JS1 gaming controller. When used with Bluez IME app you can even remap the controls and change a button to a particular android keyboard function. Any game can controls can then be remapped without without rooting. Same goes for the IControlPad gaming controller and Bluez IME app also...
