Again, another great informal video from Nick… awesome to see you and Brett doing well in league last night. There was a league type thing on North Long last night too, took a long time to get off the lake lol. I managed to hook into a mid 20s walleye, but ended up getting off when nearing the net and I also got a 20 incher… but a lot of lookers… tried many different presentations. The thing I have to tell myself more that you preached is to move on… I feel like I stay in one area too long and waiting for fish to move in or something vs target them, try a few presentations and just go. I always have jig and crawler, jiggin rap, and drop shot ready to toss. Thanks for your info, pleasure to learn!

Another question > I see you had a console boat . How do you back troll ? I have a tiller and Im thinking of getting a boat with a windshield but I'm concerned that it will hinder my back trolling , Thanks

It definitely will hinder your backtrolling. But that's not something I do now, so not a problem for me.

Thanks Im a recent subscriber . What are the moon phases which are best ? I know you mentioned moon rise , moon set , moon overhead and moon underfoot but sometimes the moonrise ist at midafternoon ( just looked at moon phases today ) since the su is out how does that help or honder fishing ? Thanks
@NickLindner
@NickLindner 3 ай бұрын
I tend to prefer the Minors (rise, set) to the Majors (overhead, underfoot).

What size hook do you prefer on the 1/8 pz smeltinator? I see there are different options on northlands website
@NickLindner
@NickLindner 5 ай бұрын
I use the #1 a lot for a jig & crawler setup, but #2 is good overall, whether you're using a crawler or a minnow-shaped plastic. The #3 is a better choice if you're going to use a swimbait on the jig. But if you're going to run a swimbait, you're probably better off upsizing to a 1/4 or heavier.

"The vast majority of the walleyes you run into on the lake are just not going to be that hungry..." "You need to keep moving...." Agree with the 2nd comment, yet I strongly disagree with the 1st comment. As a longtime guide on Leech Lake one said to me in the Summer of 2001, "the warmer the water gets the higher the fish's metabolism is and the more they have to eat." You got to this later in your video, but it should be the overriding thought in the August walleye angler's arsenal. Slip bobbering- and moving on when you strike out- and trolling are great ways to find fish in overcast and low light times. They are there and they have to eat.
@NickLindner
@NickLindner 5 ай бұрын
I understand the logic, but at the end of the day, mid-summer hot water walleyes are the toughest to catch, so the high metabolism = more aggressive and better fishing theory doesn't really hold up.
@donwilliams3078
@donwilliams3078 5 ай бұрын
@@NickLindner I would not say they are "more aggressive". Because their bodies are warmer, they just have to eat whether it's an easy meal (rusty crayfish) or not.
