For fitting advice: Boots should be tight enough so you feel your toes touching the front of the liner but not so tight that you have to crunch them up to be comfortable. Most boots pack out an extra half-size over time. You want to feel the boot holding your entire foot with no spaces ideally. Also, I bought a medium-ish boot for my first pair (Saloman Dialogues) and didn't break them in properly, so the first time on snow I couldn't get my turns to initiate well. Wear them around the house first and really try and break in the flex area (with squats and etc.). The boots flex just below your ankle so try and break that area in.

Yeah so last year I got all of my gear at Buckeye Sports Center in Ohio near where I live. I had the boa on my boots, which they did work pretty well. The thing is, they broke a little over half way through the season. I didn't have a season pass to my local mountains, I was in ski-club. The siding of my boots got torn out because the boa pulled on it so much. I did tighten my boots very strongly. Now, I have van laces. I haven't used them on the mountain yet but I've broken into them more. I wouldn't really get the boa because they did break. Other than the lining, they work very well. FWI: I got these things to put in my boot to give support to your foot arch. The guy at Buckeye told me they stop chin- splints, reduce leg pain, and help you carve better. Totally hyped for this season though, season passes! In general, be very careful with boa, don't tighten them too much or they will break. I fixed it twice and it broke both times. They were really cool and let me return my boots for having the receipt.

Due to my 'hobbit width' feet, I went for Northwave boots for my first pair. Very good boots. The quick lace system is especially good. Much better than the Boa lacing system on the hire boots I'd had before.

I got the DC Control Boa earlier this year. I really liked it. I bought it at SportChek for 159 $CAD. Really good price for those boots!

I love my DC Control boots. I buy the newest ones every year, but I would or sure consider them an intermediate boot. They're also pretty stiff and while I like them for park riding, newer riders will have some trouble riding with them at first. I'd suggest the DC Scout instead. It's only a single BOA but it's much softer, comes at a much more modest price point, and holds up to wear and tear better than the control.

I'm an intermediate rider and wear the K2 Maysis. They are awesome but I feel they are more intermediate than beginner since it is stiffer and less forgiving. And totally agree that you should spend the $$ and get the best boot that you can buy.

I'm definitely not a beginner, but I love my Motos! As an instructor I spend a lot of time off my board so cheap and comfy are my priorities. The Motos are super comfy, light and I love the speed zones. Not a fan of boa though so I'll have to look for something different next season :( . I would recommend going into a board shop, with a price and flex style in mind and trying on as many boots as you can.

Hi everyone! Greetings from Argentina. The thing is, I really like snowboard but i don't have the time and the money to do it as often as I'd like. So far, I have done it 3 weeks on 3 diferent seasons. And the common denominator of all my trips was my feet pain. Last season, a guy who works at a snowboard shop recommended me the same tip Kevin here, If you want to buy something, buy you a pair of boots. I have been researching a few thing and realize that it is indispensable get those with 2 separed tighting systems, 1 for the upper part, and the another for the instep. So, my question is, can the Salomon Faction be tighten separately? Another question but with nothing in common with this video, what helmet would you guys recommend me? How to choose one? Thank you very much, and keep sharing with us all you knowledge, we appreciate that very much!

Has any great improvements on BOA system back in 10 years? Seems many high-end snowboard boots equip BOA system recently. I thought if there are some convincing reason to adopt. I had used a BOA system more than 10 years ago. Yes, it was very easy to tighten up. But it was very easy to be loosened off while riding. It was better when I started to use, but after a while I needed to tighten BOA dial every time when I got to chair lift and it was so flustrated. Then I became to hate it and I'm using normal lace boots for 7 seasons after tried some speed lace systems.

I had single boa boots for few winters. I didn't like the fact that I couldn't tighten the upper and lower parts separately. From now on I'm staying away from single boa boots.

Some further tips: Make sure your boots are new, because the liners inside will mold to your feet. Used boots will already be broken in and therefore probably won't fit properly. Make sure the boots fit you well. Go to a shop to get your boots if you can, because different brands will fit differently even if they're the same size. Ideally, you want to get the smallest size possible without it being painful. One brand of boot you might be able to wear a size 10, while another would be size 11. If you go to the shop, the guys there can help you try on several different ones to find the right fit for you. You can't get that if you buy the boots online. Also, keep in mind the stiffness of the boots. If you're taller then you'll want stiffer boots for the added support. Somebody who is shorter will want to have more flexible boots.

I also have the Faction and wore some boots beforehand. In my humble opinion the Faction ist more on the stiffer end of soft - I'd say it's a medium stiff boot. Still forgiving, but hard enough to go faster and carve harder than with a soft one. It do is an intermediate boot.

Hey Kevin, here's my 5 cents worth for yous. Boots are THE most crucial part of your set up. Try on as many pairs as you can, pick something based on comfort rather than price or Tec. If your not sure don't be rushed into a purchase by a pushy sales assistant, even if you have to return to a store to try them all on again the next day, the important thing is to make the right choice, I've seen grown men cry by making the wrong one 😂

Its amazing how tying your own shoe laces has become something a Beginner cant do. If you do one of these again I recommend you include different types of beginner boots not just literally the same boot by different companies 5 times. Just because something is easy doesn't mean its the only thing a beginner can do, if you are this new to snowboarding and want this style of beginner boot, rent boots for a week get comfortable see if its SOMETHING you want. then look at actual good beginner shoes not just the one boa shit. Its so narrowminded and not good for a beginner to have such a limited concept of snowboarding.

While BOAs are nice and all, I personally wouldn't recommend them to beginners (especially those who are younger). Most beginners don't seem to understand that BOAs can only take so much stress when tightening them. So most beginners end up breaking their BOAs by accident, from over tightening them. It's easier to replace a broken lace than it is to replace a broken cable. I know that all these boots are good choices as far as flex, and fit. But BOAs aren't really ideal for a beginner. It's a lot better to start on traditional lace boots, or some other system like speed laces.
@saobx39567 жыл бұрын
Elijah Dashnau Speed zone boots seem to be far worse, imo. They often never tighten them correctly. Boas are easy to learn as long as you're competant. As for them breaking, I wrench mine down until they won't turn. I've had them for two seasons and working as an instructor that means a lot of days. As long as they're New England rope boas and not the steel cable ones, they shouldn't break.
@mynoxx014 жыл бұрын
Fuck Boa Boots, they always break when you are in the middle of nowhere and cant do anything about it, then your fantastic snowboarding day is over. Nope, not doing that shit anymore, I gonna stick to normal laced boots.
