I reload 45 acp, too. Granted, most 45 acp cases use large pistol primers, but, some cases really do have small pistol primer pockets... no BS. When I buy range used cases on line I need to sort them by pocket size.

The lack of Winchester Ranger T or Federal HST does not bode well for the validity of this list. If one is looking for range ammo, add Sellier & Bellot to your list. They're nearly identical to Magtech as they are under the same company banner, CBC Global.

Except they are not very good for carbines and distances over 100 yards. Too much drop and loss of energy due to horrible ballistic coefficient

@@imeprezime1285 Pretty much true for all .45 ACP though. At 100 yards I think I'd prefer a pistol caliber carbine in 10mm or .357 magnum. Personally I am not a fan of PCCs, especially those with 16 inch barrels. I'd rather just have a 16 inch .223 AR at that point. Large format pistols with a brace make a little more sense, but they're just handguns with an extra point of contact for stability when you boil it down.

@@Kattbirb For pistol ranges (up to 50 yards), the difference is small. More important is consistency and muzzle velocity of the ammo. PCC are getting more popular not just because of longer ranges target shooting, but some people even hunt with 45 ACP. For that Magtech or Federal 45 ACP mmo is certainly better (FMJ bullet is enough for medium size game and that cal). Regardless of that, how on earth S&B managed to make FMJ RN 45 ACP 230 gr bullet with BC=0.09, while same feature in Federal and Magtech's bullets are .19 and 0.2 respectively? I thought it was a typo in S&B website. Turned out it wasn't!

@@imeprezime1285 If you're selecting FMJ for hunting, I think you can afford to be more picky and use what works best for you. But I stand with S&B for inexpensive range use as I recommended, even if its BC is little better than a lead ball, it's proven to be just fine for punching paper.

@@Kattbirb Agreed, almost as bad as spherical shot. S&B ammo from most of .45 ACP handguns is quite consistent and reliable, makes decent groups at 10-25 range. It's just that its' BC is puzzlingly low. Usually, 45 ACP FMJ 230 gr balls have BC between 0.15 and 0.2. Maybe designers were inspired by wadcutter bullets

I've got a stockpile of .45acp HSTs, Golden Sabers, and Gold Dots so this is what I use for SD/HD, but to be honest, I'm more than comfortable with plain ol'GI Ball if that's all I had for my .45 pistols.

The Golden Sabers haven't been available for well over a year, the FMJ rounds are for practice only. The only round spoken of relevant to self defense today is the Hornady Critical Defense 185's. Can I get the time you wasted with this list back please?

American eagle... humm',,, ,180 g hornidy probably gets 1000 + fps...that's a tad bit good penitration with that one'...50 grain's lighter than a 230g...45 Humm...all that cridical defence hornidy ammo some pretty hot stuff for damage ratios...hi performance ' 9mm cridical defence ammo mean as well, all caliber's...deer hunting type bullets ' I would say'...not that anybody hunts with standard pistol calibers but if ya had to I guess' shoot hornidy stuff'
