Amazing video, glad you put vietnamese on the honorable mention at least! They're definitely one of my favorite civs in the entire game since the archery range bonus also applies to cav archers (plus bloodlines!) and you have the imp skirmisher option later into the game which is a rather crazy unit. Will you consider doing a top 5 cav archer civs / strats? Maybe top 7?

I would have had Portuguese on the honorable mention. Units -20% gold. Techs researched 30% faster. Not only does this help making archers but when your enemy inevitably goes for a counter you have a counter counter which costs less gold. Mangonels are very expensive and counter archers well. If you can trade evenly, you are saving 27 gold every time. If they go skirms you have mangonels or cheaper knights to destroy them. Besides having cheaper "best castle" units in knights and archers, you also have cheaper monks if your enemy techs into strong unique units.

I agree with the list but I expect archer rushes when playing against the top 3 so I make a few skirms or scouts. I like to use Tatars with a goal to end the game in castle age on 1 tc. That way not having arbs doesn't matter. I like the free thumb ring spike as its kind of similar to the Eth faster firing archers.

I don't agree about Mayans and Britions. Mayans have cheaper archers than britions so they should be Top 1 as Goths cheaper infnatry makes them above Aztecs. Plus, Mayan skirmishers are also better. Plumed archers also beat longbowman. Mayan quantity is above Briton's quality.

I'm always hesitant to put Saracen archers against archer civs like Vietnamese, partly because I feel like Saracens do have other options like knights. Can Saracens match those civs in going archers or is it just better to use their other options?

This ain't Starcraft; a rush usually doesn't kill off your enemy, since Feudal armies struggle against buildings. As such, a rush has to be viable in Castle Age, IMO, minimum.

@@mbvglider flush main objective is to cripple the opponent's economy right? Whether using archer or scout. So just like malay, you can flush with archer and then change into battle elephant rush in the castle and imp.

​@@TheKobasen That's not really a battle elephant rush, then, if you really do an archer rush first, since that's not an aggressive timing. That's just called a transition. An archer rush can be executed with any civ, if it just means creating 6-8 units that are expected to die before Castle Age.

We're definitely overdue a new top-tier archer civ. Yes Bohemians could be seen as kinda an archer civ as it often makes up the backbone of their comp, and Koreans have been steadily buffed to make them more of an archer civ since DE released, but other than that we haven't had a straight-up archer civ added since 2016 with Vietnamese. I'm also not counting Tatars as they're more of a cav archer civ. They could make one with faster-moving archers maybe? Or one that gets crossbow upgrade for free?

Both of those would be game-breaking, though. Honestly, Poles, Bohemians, and Tatars make excellent archer civs. It's just that they have other bonuses that people choose to use instead. I think buffing speed or giving crossbow for free is too scary. Skirms already kinda suck in the early/mid game, and they'd be useless against such a civ.

@@mbvglider I'm not arguing that those civs can't go for archers and be very strong for it, hell even Sicilians and post-nerf Vikings are still really good with them. But I don't see any of those civs ever making it into a top-5 list like this, so that's kinda what I want to see added, a new civ that is indisputably top-tier when it comes to archers, like Lithuanians for cavalry, Tatars for cav archers etc. The bonuses I mentioned were literally just spitballing ideas, of course balance needs to be considered. Just bear in mind that bonuses/techs some in the community assumed would be game-breakingly OP in the past often haven't turned out that way in practice e.g. Wootz Steel, Cuman 2TC etc. I know release Cumans were stupidly strong but that was a combination of factors, not down to just their TC bonus.

@@derikaem8021 I think you dont realize how op long range is. Also britons do have sheep bonus so they can just go 5 on sheep and get more wood which let them do double archer range prod FAST. Once you get to castle age the range bonus is too amazing. Also faster range prod.

@@herotalib9556 there is no extra range in feudal when you archer rush. when you archer rush you risk that you’re archers are dead before castle age. sheep bonus is nice, but most civs i mentioned have better eco so they archer rush better. or they have a strong feudal archer bonus
