I love the indepth reviews you guy do, contemplating the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige for his auto, easy use options and it actually convert my office (shoosh away pandamic) to a office like vibe, with great coffee machine which seems to do it all! Too good to be true? All i fear is the ceramic plating and their potential to crack, how likely would that be. Should i be anixously checking all beans i insert to avoid any "rocks" getting their way into the grinder? Ready to make the plunge into home coffee heaven
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi MD, Thanks for the kind comment and question. The Cadorna Prestige offers a lot compared to competing machines. Ceramic burrs are subject to chipping and damage due to foreign objects like rocks in beans. But, IMO that's very unlikely! I've been using super-auto machines for more than decade. Probably ground 100's of Kg's of beans through them and have yet to run into a rock. Not saying it can't happen but likelyhood is incredibly low. Marc

can you incorporate some blind taste tests in comparisons? that would be a big help!
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea, though there are SO many variables involved, it would be hard to pull any real conclusions from the shots. You could try to control as much as possible (beans, grind size, temperature, yield), but one machine may perform "better" under one set of circumstances, then another machine would win if you changed one variable. Combine that with the subjectivity of taste and it's really hard to gather useful data. Of course taste is the most important thing, but often the real value of these videos is to analyze the features, consistency, reliability, and ability to tweak to your own personal taste preferences. Looking at the maintenance and accessories for the Jura machines - water filter every two months, milk tube every three, the milk cup and smartphone capability being add ons - seems like would be spendy over time. How does the gaggia compare for these types of Maintenance accessories?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wrknmom@, Thanks for the question. Here's a comparison. A lot depends on whether you use a water filter or not. Costs are about the same (but varies depending on your source water hardness) if you decide to not use the filter on the Jura and use the filter on the Gaggia to extend time between descaling. Jura Milk Jug Glass: $47.50. One can forgo the Milk Jug Glass and just drop the pickup tube in any milk container. Water Filter: 23.75 Cleaning Tablets 6 pack: $20 = $3.33/ea Descaling Tablets 9 pack: $19 = $2.11/ea Notes: Use the water filter and no descaling is required. Or do not use water filter and you will need to descale. Cleaning tablets are required ~180 brew cycles as the Jura brew unit is not removable. If your source water quality is decent you can save a lot by not using the Jura filter and descaling when alerted at cost of $2.11. With moderately soft water Descaling and cleaning happen at about the same frequency of every 180 brew cycles So figure ~$5.40 in maintenance every 180 brew cycles. Gaggia Milk Carafe: included with Babila, not needed with Cadorna Barista Plus Water Filter: $12.24 Descaler: $8.50 Cleaning Tablets: 10 pack $12.99 = 1.29/ea Notes: Descaling is required regardless of filter use - but will be less frequent if filter is used. Cleaning tablets are not as critical as Gaggia brew unit is removable. Still recommend to use cleaning tablet every 60 days at minimum. With soft source water and filter use descaling will be required at about 750 brew cycles. Hope that helps!

I’d like to move to a super-automatic machine from a Keurig. The Gaggia Anima Prestige and the Jura D6 seem comparable. If they are, why does the Gaggia win that category over the Jura? Also a friend of mine just got the Breville Touch and it looks very nice. You don’t seem to feature the Breville often or in any top 5. Is there a reason? Thank you for any insight.... I’m totally new to this!

Hi Molly, My apologies for missing your comment and not answering sooner. First, congrats on considering moving away from a Keurig! Bean to cup makes far better coffee (and lots of other drinks), cost is far less per cup and you'll be doing the environment a favor. Anima Prestige wins for lower price ~$100 and more convenient with the detachable carafe and one touch milk drinks. D6 uses a pickup tube for and requires user intervention to star milk prep. Breville not included here as their machines are technically semi-automatic with portafilters, separate grinders - so a lot more user involvement and some skill coffee knowledge required for their operation. @Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hi J, Thanks for the kind comment on the video! Based on the info you provided I think one of the Gaggia Cadorna machines is exactly what you are looking for. There are 3 Cadorna models. The Barista Plus, the Milk and the Prestige. The Barista Plus is at your desired budget. The difference between the models is how they work with milk. The Barista Plus uses manual frothing. The Milk uses a tube attached milk reservoir and the Prestige has an attachable carafe. Here's a video comparing all 3: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moe0hZyhrZqMpsU As you'll see in the video the Barista Plus uses a manual steam wand. It takes a little practice/skill to use but once you get it down you can froth to latte art quality with the manual wand. The Milk and Prestige models take no skill and add a lot of convenience. Both are considered "one-touch" machines which means they make milk drinks start to finish without user intervention at the touch of a button. The Cadornas are perfect for multiple users as each can save their own custom drinks in separate user profiles. For regular coffee the Cadornas have to options. A long coffee which brews larger coffees putting all the brew water through the ground coffee or true Americanos which many coffee drinkers (myself included) prefer for larger cups. An Americano is simply a shot of espresso with pure hot water added. It has a purer flavor profile than a long coffee. Here's a link to a side by side spec comparison of the 3 Gaggia Cadorna models with current pricing: /pages/compare?products=NDU2ODM4Mjk5NjUzNCw0NTY4MzkxOTA5NDMwLDQ1NjgzOTgwMzcwNDY I hope that helps! Hey Brian, unfortunately I don't. There's the GIGA 6 as you mentioned, and the GIGA X7 which costs (a whole latte) more. Hi Sam, Thanks for the comment and question. You are correct, variables like cup type, ambient temps, etc all have an affect on in cup temps. Hello and thanks for these videos! I'm a newbie who wants to make the leap from a drip coffeemaker to a superautomatic machine that can do espresso, americano, coffee with occasional foamed milk (we're not really into lattes and other milky drinks). The catch is that counterspace is at a premium and a small footprint is essential. I had been only considering Juras up until this point, since it's the only machine I had used in a relative's house, but your video put Gaggia on the map for me. Have there been any newer releases on the market in 2021 since this video was made, that i should also consider?

Hi vahinewahine, here's a link to the 2021 version of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6TRlYCrl8xnmtU If you're sold on JURA, the ENA8 is probably the way to go if you're tight on counter space. Otherwise, take a took at the Gaggia Magenta (featured in that video and others on our channel). It's new in 2021, has one of the smallest footprints you'll find in in a superautomatic machine, and has espresso/coffee/americano options. There are two models that only vary in the milk system: the Magenta Prestige has a removable milk carafe that automatically froths for one-touch drinks, and the Magenta Plus for manual milk frothing. Good feature video. Can you comment on the brew groups and internal build quality used in the various machines? It looks like the Gaggia is using same the Phillips/Saeco classic that's in the old Titanium unit. IMO, coffe quality was poor/meh. Will you do a tear-down of any of these?
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hey BWD, Thanks for the comment and questions. While I open up nearly every semi-automatic machine I use I dont' go deep inside super-automatics. Brew groups inside super-autos are all fairly similar. They have had upgrades since the Titanium days but they do not have the same potential as espresso made from a high-end grinder and prosumer level espresso machine. These types of machines provide convenient consistent quality that's generally better than what you'll get in drinks from major chain cafes.

What do you guys think about the Miele countertop systems? Is there any super automatic that does both espresso drinks and drip coffee very well?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi CL, I've not used the Miele so cannot render an opinion. For a machine that does both espresso and "drip" coffee I'd take a look at the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige. It doesn't do actual drip coffee, it does better! Nothing like a cup made from whole beans ground fresh for every one! The Cadorna does a long coffee which is drip like. But my favorite is the Americano. If unfamiliar do try one. It's a shot of espresso followed by hot water over the top. IMO much better than drip coffee and you can tune to your taste preference. The Cadorna nails a perfect combination of features, ease of use, Gaggia reliability and a price well below machines from other manufacturers machines with comparable features and capabilities. Hi, thanks for these videos from the UK! I’m looking for our first bean to cup from a Nespresso, and typically make Americans with foam/splash of hot milk. I’m torn between the Gaggia Cordona and Jura ENA 8 models. Is there any key difference in maintenance or coffee grinding quality etc.? How would you advise? Thanks!
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, You are welcome! The machines are very similar in coffee quality. The Cadorna has higher capacities than the ENA 8. So, if you do more than a couple a couple of drinks per day you may appreciate less water filling and used coffee bin emptying. The Cadorna has double the grind settings of the Jura so you can be more precise. Maintenance is similar for both machines although if you use the in-reservoir filter with the Jura as directed you will never need to descale the machine. Even with filter use the Cadorna will require descaling. Filter use extends the time between descaling. Other consideration is how you want to work with milk. ENA 8 uses a pick up tube while there are options ranging up to a detachable carafe for the Cadorna. All milk system require cleaning but the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige uses a detachable carafe and a quick rinse cycle which allows one to put it back in fridge ready for use next time. Hope that helkps! Which super automatic espresso machine that you have used / tested would you say consistently makes the best taste/flavor quality of espresso and black coffee drinks? Maybe another way to ask is which semi automatic in your experience/opinion makes the best flavor/taste quality of espresso that is most similar to a dialed in semi-automatic espresso machine?
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hi rh66, Thanks for the question. First know that with the right skills, knowledge a good coffee and grinder a semi-auto has higher quality potential than super-autos. You're giving up a little in potential quality for the convenience of super-auto machines. For those focused on the best possible espresso from a super-auto I like the Gaggia Accademia or Babila. Both those machines have flow control on the coffee spouts allowing the user to adjust flow rate slower for espresso and higher for longer coffees. Both machines have more grind settings than vast majority of competing machines. And if you want a double shot the machine will grind 2x to make it rather than putting 2x the amount water through the same amount of coffee. I've used both the Accademia and Babila daily for months long periods. They brew espresso/coffee identically. My use consisted of either straight espresso or long coffee. The ability to control flow rate allowed me to switch between shorter espresso and long coffees without changing grind size. For the past few months I've been using the Gaggia Cadorna. I do straight espresso on the machine and if I want a larger black coffee I make an Americano. It's really the only machine in it's price range that does a true one-touch Americano by automatically adding pure hot water to the espresso after it is made. I prefer the flavor of the Americano to long coffee made on the machine which puts all the brew water through the puck. The UI of the Cadorna is superior to that of that Accademia and Babila IMO. Hope that helps! Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage Hello, thank you for your informative reply as it’s certainly appreciated. Yes, I agree and understand that semi-automatic machines that are dialed in well are going to consistently produce better flavor / taste quality espresso than a super automatic, but its a trade off I’m personally interested in making due to the speed, ease and convenience of the super automatics. I was wondering about how well the flow adjustment on the Gaggia Babila or Accademia would work to improve the flavor quality of the espresso, so sounds like it does make a noticeable improvement. I was also curious how you thought this function compared to the Pulse Extraction Process of the Jura machines for producing the better more consistent flavor quality of espresso. Sounds like you have probably found the flow adjustment function of the Gaggia Babila / Accademia to be a little better overall for the taste quality of espresso produced, so that is helpful to know. I suppose that hot water could be manually added to the espresso produced from the Babila or Accademia to make a better Americano - not as easily as the Cadorna but for me whichever machine made the overall best taste quality of espresso is the more important factor. Thank you again for your response and any additional input you have would be appreciated in helping me to finalize a purchase decision.

How does the velasca compare to the anima prestige?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
The base model Velasca comes with an autofrothing steam wand while the Anima Prestige uses a milk carafe. The Velasca Prestige and Anima Prestige are more comparable. Drink quality will be nearly identical on both. Velasca Prestige will give you a slightly larger bean hopper, passively-heated cup warmer, and more grind settings. Anima prestige will give you a larger dreg drawer capacity and larger water reservoir. Dink options are pretty close, but the Velasca Prestige give you a baby cappuccino and Anima Prestige has latte macchiato. AJ

What is the the best machine for long time use?
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hi RDA, Thanks for the question. All these machines are capable of well in excess of 10,000 brewing cycles with proper maintenance. So, best machine is one that you maintain! For more piece of mind you'd probably prefer a Gaggia machine all of which use removable brew units. Marc

If you admit in your comments there are many brands you have not tested, how can you claim these are the top 5 best ?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi BM, Fair question. These are 5 best in our opinion. It's impossible to test every single available machine! So, we are selective on the machines we include based on 20+ years working with machines from many manufacturers. This includes our evaluations of machines based on capabilities, construction and feedback from our service dept - they service hundreds of machines each year.

2 brands? Looks like advertising rather than a comparison video
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sling Blade, thanks for the comment. Our team hand selects the machines we sell based on 20+ years of experience working with this equipment inside and out. We currently carry roughly 50 models of superautomatic machines, and chose our 5 favorites to demonstrate to people who may be looking to educate themselves on the options available. In a sense, yes, it is advertising, but regardless of brand, we stand behind these machines as the best picks of the year for the reasons demonstrated in the video. AJ

Where would the Breville Barista Touch rank here?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi J, Thanks for the question. The Barista Touch is considered a semi-automatic and these are super-automatic. Barista Touch is a more manual process with user transferring the portafilter to group for extraction. With super-autos the machine does it all for you. Marc

Hey Bb Hh, tough call. They're all pretty close but if we're just talking straight espresso, I like the JURAs for their pulse extraction process. It really helps bring out some of the flavors and aromas you wouldn't otherwise get. AJ

Which one do you think that makes a hotter coffee? I bought delonghi but the coffee is not hot enough
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi cg, The Gaggia Cadorna IMO makes hotter coffee. One of the only machines I've ever turned down from high temp to normal when using. Be aware no automatic machine will make super-hot easily burn your tongue temperature coffee. To get there they'd have to brew the coffee far too hot which destroys flavor with bitterness.

Thanks for the review. I’m really interested in a super. I was surprised that’s the Gaggia Cadorna prestige didn’t make the cut. Especially since it is a new model. Any reason why ? Thanks
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hey 4wolverines, if I was a little less strict on the "top 5" definition, I'd give the whole Cadorna line the award for Best Newcomer. We picked the Barista Plus model because it's unlike any other superauto out there with it's commercial-style steam wand, plus all of the features that exist on the Cadorna Milk and Prestige (awesome display, user profiles, one-touch americanos). I personally prefer manually steaming, so that functionality combined with the lower pricetag for the Barista Plus made it edge out the others for the video. If you want the most versatility, larger drink list, and a more automatic process with one-touch milk drinks, the Cadorna Prestige is certainly the better machine. AJ

Hello great reviews. I have a question. I'm searching for a new espresso machine. My family and I buy starbucks drinks daily and would like to make similar drinks at home. My go to drink has 5 shots of espresso in it. From watching you videos I saw most of the semiautomatic machines like the Breville barista pro pulls 2 shots at a time. Which means I would have to grind, tamp,and clean more than 3 times just to make the one drink that I want. Would I be better off going with a fully automatic machine. I know they are more expensive but the automatic machines seem like the way to go for what we want. I am looking for a machine under $2000.00 that is durable, easy to clean. Do you have any recommendations. Thank you for your help.
@Wholelattelovepage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, good question. A fully automatic machine would definitely be the easiest way to do it. That said, you could updose on a semiauto and probably get away with two grind/tamp/brew cycles. Keep in mind if you go the semiauto route, you'll also need a good grinder - equally as important as the machine itself. I guess it depends if you more want convenience (superauto) or control/ability to tinker (semiauto). If you decide to go with automatic, I'd recommend the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige or Jura ENA 8. Here's some more info and a review video on each. How can you tell which is best without even tasting the product?
@Wholelattelovepage4 жыл бұрын
Hi b, That's a great question. So all the machines do a good job making espresso/coffee. We've used them extensively. But, it's very difficult to make flavor comparisons as that's subjective and there are many variables involved like grind size, strength setting, coffee length, etc.

The super automatics are getting so many buttons and dials that they are becoming more complex than the E61 machines.
