I normally don't like QTEs but when I do they're usually in games that perform finishing moves on bosses. Those are the most fun uses of that trope.

That's funny. Because the most notorious QTEs I can think of are the ones that will delete all your progress on a boss because you didn't know the half-second window of opportunity chain of events. Spiderman 3 is a game I beat, but can't say I enjoyed.

For the most part, agreed. I still feel like Techland robbed us in Dying Light, though. A QTE boss fight at the end of my zombie parkour game, after running and climbing up a massive tower while being chased by the most deadly zombies in the game, adrenaline and tension building for the final fight... And it's just knife fight QTEs. It's good, but it feels absolutely out of place, instead of just having a regular boss fight.

Kingdom Hearts 2's Reaction Commands fit really well to showcase Sora's new acrobatic skill and ability, allowing you to exploit enemy weaknesses and gain cool advantages. Stomp on a healer and steal their healing, take a dangerous earlygame enemy and stop them in their tracks, steal a boss's giant claymore or clash on the side of a building, they were always cinematic and powerful. Of course the best one is Xemnas's laser dome, which despite being a 2 button masher, looks spectacular. Sora and Riku parrying thousands of lasers as they come down on you, so fast that it literally whites out the screen. Talk about awesome.

Not just from the intense pressure, but seeing the other characters add to the button mashing (except for Yellow who’s just PETTING IT) pushes you even further to complete it. I just want to say this since Rabbid brought up MGS3 yet again (admittedly after quite a lot of time not mentioning it): while it’s not one of my personal favorites like it is for him, it’s hands down the most perfectly paced game I have ever played. Okay, the Virtuous Mission and the ending can drag out depending on who you ask, but the meat of the gameplay, from the start of Operation Snake Eater to that last fight with The Boss, perfectly spaced out the boss fights and keeps everything moving.

Henry Stickmin had some good quick time events. They were usually there to mock you for being too slow. One of my favorite fail screens for failing a QTE literally said " Ok. Ok. No more quick time events." I think what helps me like these is the fact that failing is the whole point of the Henry Stickmin games, so you're actually encouraged to sit back the first time one of these come up, that way, you're more prepared on your next attempt.

Is asuras wrath any good, like is there any gameplay or is the entire game just qte's
@viewtiful1doubleokamihand2533 жыл бұрын
@@ryohazuki3161 It kinda is good and yeah, it has basic beatemup mechanics outside of the qtes. It's nothing hard or fancy, a bit buttonmashy. Basically most simple enemies are dispatched by doing Asura's basic combo on them, but the bosses have this red gauge under Asura's own health which keeps filling up as he hits the boss. After it's filled you can press RT (R2) and Asura will do a wild dash at the enemy and initiate the cutscene that leads into the next stage of the fight *if he tackles the boss* , because sometimes they evade at the last moment, so you have to make sure they don't. And so on and so forth. The thing about Asura's Wrath is that for it's simplicity it's main strenghts lie in the shlockiness of it's premise and the ridiulousness of the qtes. It's pure anime cheese bullshit that looks frigging awesome. The very best part of Asura's Wrath is the DLC where Asura fights Ryu and then Akuma. I recommend checking it out.

I really liked the one in Until Dawn that had you slide your finger along the TouchPad to use a lighter. The TouchPad is criminally under utilized in games and is instead just the select button. So to see it used and in a way that makes sense with the action performed just made me happy.

Not gonna lie, when I saw the video title my first thought was "[Game that turned out to be at #1] is the only game I can think of where the QTEs actually enhanced the experience." Mostly because the QTEs throughout the game make use of its unique weapon switching mechanic, so it genuinely feels like you're still playing the game rather than feeling like when Netflix asks if you're still watching, but at least partly because getting them right will frequently cause the soundtrack to switch to that absolute banger of a main theme.

The QTE on the jet that immediately precedes Chris Redfield the Boulder Punching Wonder is also a highlight for me personally (at least in co-op). It's campy nonsense, but there's something nice about the thematic connection to partnership cooperation, and trust. Plus, while it has a similar number of inputs to the Krauser knife fight, it's spread between both players and the cutscene has a checkpoint midway through so you don't have to start ALL the way over. Yeah, the fact that a cutscene needs a checkpoint at all is kinda... weird, but if you've ever fucked up the Krauser knife fight at the very last second and had to start over, then that doesn't sound so bad.

While I wouldn't be able to pick one specific moment, the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games have SURPRISINGLY great qtes. The qtes are ingrained into the more animated fight scenes, so you still feel involved when the more important fights actively make the fight feel more impactful outside of the standard gameplay. Plus they're MORE than fair in the timing and actively reward good reactions with a bonus scene at the end, wuth the stars required being more than plentiful. Even if you don't care about Naruto, I can still say it's worth looking up at least the. Final battle of UNS3, specifically Naruto vs Tobi, to see just how good those scenes are. Tekken 7s throw kazuya off cliff prompt deserves an honorable mention.

I don’t feel qualified to discuss the Krauser QTE fight. Years of hearing people $&@$& about it before I played the game myself adequately prepared me for my own go at it. That said, I honestly liked the proper boss fight you have with him later, less for the direct encounter and more for the pressure of having to work through a set of puzzles with him constantly harassing you.

Yeah from what I know it's mostly infamous because RE4 was the first game in the series to really use QTEs a lot, it was released right when QTEs were starting to be in what felt like everything, & that combo made a lot of first time players, especially around release day, go from "oh cool knife fight scene" to "I DIED?!"

Isn't there technically one more scene where you're in control after the final boss in MGS3? Possibly in a plane?

No mention of the hilarity in AI: The Somnium Files? A travesty.

Great video! But I hate any and all QTEs because I am slightly disabled and cannot super fast-press buttons. I will enjoy a game until there is a QTE, at which point it’s uninstalled in a rage.
