After listening to you about robot vacuums and which was best for the price I could afford, I settled on the Roborock S4Max. It is the best one for me. My wife and I are both disabled and cannot vacuum and mop. With this vacuum, we get the floor vacuumed 3 times a week whole house and our bedroom/bathroom everyday. I mop as often as I can, which isn't as much as I would like, but being disabled and fighting cancer I do what I can.

For your next comparison, and tests in general, I'd very much appreciate if you include their ability to traverse over ledges, thresholds, what they get stuck on, etc. This has actually been the main determining factor for me buying robot vacuums because every single door in my home has a threshold, and they vary in size too. I've seen a few of these tests in your videos but it's not a regular thing. Thanks!

Long time lurker, first time commentor. I just wanted to thank you for all the time, effort, money & expertise you put into these videos. Thanks to you when our very old third hand vacuum finally died we now have our very first robot vacuum (Roomba i7+) and very first stick vacuum (Dyson V15) & most importantly I have a very VERY happy wife. As I speak we're making the three hour trip to her in-laws place so she can show them her "magical vacuum!". Thank you for making my job of "just getting something that actually works" so much easier than it had any right to be and making our house so much cleaner than I thought was possible. Stay safe :)

You are the reason I bought a vacuum robot, and also the reason why I upgraded it to the best one. It's been such a blessing to have these incredible robots, it saves times, it makes your house clean and frankly, it's kinda fun to look at and gives a strange sense of company. I have been showing it off to everyone and never stopped telling people to just GET ONE. I even adjusted all my furnitures to be robot friendly. Emptying a bin, installing a mop and clicking a button to get shiny newly mopped floors before having guests over is such a luxury. Cleaning robots are the best!!

I really appreciate the work you put into testing each of these vacuums. This is impressive. One category you could consider for future testing is repairability. I've really liked the fact that my roborock is easy to fix and find parts for.

@mwniels

@@VacuumWars true, part availability would be constantly changing. What I was thinking of was a simpler version of ifixit's repairability score. For example, the fact that all of the screws on the roborock s5 are Philips (PH2) is easy to quantify without full disassembly. Also, it's easy to see that all of the pieces are modular and replaceable. Honestly, it's just an idea and perhaps I'm too nerdy :)

You should check to see if these vacuums will run without internet/cloud access. Today (12/7) AWS East outage is causing my Roomba i8+ to not run/open the mobile app to clean a room. My Roborock S5 is still going like a champ because the app is local and not cloud based. I think that is a significant deduction to think about.

I have an Ilife V4, it's great for a 2 bedroom condo with carpet. Yet it is what is referred to as a Random Robot. It does have obstacle avoidance yet just kinda bobs around until the battery is done and then docks itself. However, it does have a pattern, it does sense walls and does have various settings to ensure the whole place is cleaned.

One of my worst tech buying mistakes was getting a Neato D7 Vacuum. Besides being buggy, getting stuck often, etc. the build is such that wheels get clogged and are not easily cleanable without actually taking the thing apart. It leaves scuff marks beyond belief on hardwood floors. For being 'smart' it misses rooms every other cleaning cycle... Nope. No more Neato vacs for me.

Thank you so much for this review. I ended up going with the Ecovacs N8 Pro+ and holy crap, this thing is soo freakin cool. We had one of those cheap knockoffs from amazon (eufy), that CONSTANTLY got stuck, and made it essentially worthless. This thing, with its auto empty, mapping no go zones, AND mopping, this thing does what a robot vac is supposed to do. It cleans every square inch of our 1200 sqft main level, and it requires virtually zero human interaction after initial mapping, which was also very cool btw. I watched the thing map out our house on my phone for a good 1.5 hours on the first run. Pretty much the only interaction is to fill the water tank when you want it to mop and empty the dock bin once a month or so. I chose the N8 because it was about the same price as the J7+ and it had the mopping function. The S7+ was far more expensive (Around $900) when you had to buy the dock separate, otherwise I probably would have gone with the S7+, but quite frankly, the N8 is so damn good, I dont think the difference in price would have been worth it. No way I would have made the right choice w/out this review....thank you so much!

I've had a number of other robovacs in the past and none of them have provided the experience I wanted until I got the j7+. Its obstacle avoidance is fantastic and I've actually found that it finishes jobs in about half the time of the s9 it replaced. It also doesn't get stuck on my flimsy rug corners and it doesn't get stuck going under my just-barely-not-tall-enough furniture like the s9 constantly did. I received the Wyze robot for my birthday last winter and have been supremely happy with it. It does a good job on varied surface types, keeps the cat hair in my house at bay, and the software keeps getting better. Voice assistant and multi-floor features incoming! The only issue I've found with it are some skid marks from the tires right next to the base. I have the base on a tile floor so it wiped right off after I hit it with WD-40 but I've seen some comments in the forums about problems people have getting those marks out of carpet or hardwood floors (solution: put a small mat under the base). Hard to beat for the price point.

Anyone looking into an Ecovac T8+… it took me about 5 auto runs for it to fully map my house. After I got over that initial frustration, I thought this was a great vacuum. Until it started constantly losing the map with the inability to restore. Which wouldn’t be so bad if it would map my house successfully in one run. Also, If you have pets, don’t bother with the auto empty because it’s not powerful enough to get any of it out, you’ll end up manually emptying the bin anyway.

I'm having the same problem with my Ecovac T8 AIVI, it keeps loosing my map! My other problem I am having is that the auto empty dust bin does not empty completely and I still have to go in and physically empty it myself. I wish there was a robot that would know when it's bin was full during a cleaning and go back to the dock and empty itself and then resume cleaning! This vac is only two months old and if I can't fix these issues, I may just return it to Costco.

Thanks, VW. It's funny what the results are when doing 'data-driven' ranking. The trick is - how to weigh each category? I tried this on decision-making for projects at work and was surprised at the resulting rankings. The Roborock or Ecovacs do look tempting with the integrated mops that vibrate. Even the dedicated "high-end" iRobot mop just drags a pad across the floor. I was not impressed with that one.

Please include ease of servicing and parts availability in your reviews! Based on one of your reviews I got the Ecovacs Ozmo T8 AIVI and while it cleaned well for over a year, one of the wheels has jammed due to debris buildup. This was not surprising as these are complex machines operating in dirty environments, what did surprise me though was the how difficult it is to repair this robot. Based on the scant information I could find, this will be a fairly difficult process with a significant chance of doing lasting damage to the robot. The manufacturer offers no parts or guidance on how to address this inevitable issue which makes this an e-waste time-bomb. I will be attempting to disassemble this based on a community guide from ifixit and if successful, I will be selling it to purchase a roomba instead. Before this robot I had a roomba which gave many years of service and had multiple parts easily replaced before I decided to upgrade to a fancier robot with more features. I now regret that decision.

@@jennypenny812 This is my first impression: - Cleaning wise, it's great, it's doing better than what I initially expected. Definitely worth the price in this aspect. - The pathing is good as well, even after I moved some furniture around the robot didn't go too crazy. - The mapping, however, has failed and missed a lot of rooms. I'm hoping that it picks them up on the second go. - It's slow. It took about 45 mins to mop two rooms (20m^2). It might have been due to it being the first pass. - The vacuuming is clearly a secondary option, only buy this robot if you are in for the mopping feature. - Surprisingly, it has an auto dry feature that I think is not advertised anywhere. It pumps air from where it normally drains the water, that's cool but quite ineffective, will take approximately 8 hours to dry the zone. - It's very quiet, I had for reference my roborock which is very loud and this thing doesn't make any noise. - The carpet detection seems to be good, it detected all of the carpets in my house. It did surpass the limits at some point but it was only to get the pathing right, nothing too bad. - This is important, the water tank that the robot carries is what's used to wet the pads. It doesn't auto-refill, if your house is big enough and you use the highest setting you are expected to refill it at least once. This last point might be a clear deal-breaker, I'm definitely not a fan of it but overall it's awesome.

Overall I think this is just a shame that manufacturers made them with bags again.. Like, there is no point in stepping back like that. I get it, that there has to be higher suction force to empty the whole trash of robot but there are better and most importantly greener solutions for no-bag vacuum cleaners and so the emptying bin in the station should be made that way. What's the point in having green no-bag vacuum cleaner when you still have to buy the bags for it's station anyway

@@ddvffcescfe2368 reoccurring revenue for the manufacturers. It's a way of locking you into a subscription of sorts. if it's a bagless machine then they get only 1 purchase from you, but if it requires their uinique bag then every few months you're coming back to spend more money with them.

@Dyanosis but your argument has even less merit, because there is a massive difference in emptying a bag every run vs emptying it every 60 days. Maybe someone else buys you free bags, but for most of us, we have to pay for them, so of course we prefer the non-subscription model. As for "either way, you are in need of a bag", again, check the costs of the specialty bag vs your standard "500 for 14.99" garbage bags. Finally, one of these manufacturers has a a bagless HEPA solution so it is clearly possible to do.

Can we see the “Top 10 - Overall” without review ratings added to the scoring system? Sometimes you can’t trust reviews due to bots and paid users especially being in Canada Amazon reviews can't always be trusted because most of the time, products that are “really good” have little to no reviews. Yet still, some products that don't steep to the “really good” products have impressive review ratings. Also, I love to see raw data showing performance, not some people “knowing” if the product is good or not.

How a robot vaccum can be integrated in home automation systems like Home Assistant is pretty important. I like my robot to notice that nobody is home and also count the amount of door opening or uses of the kitchen to determine if it's necessary to vacuum the hallway or mop the kitchen. That's what makes a vacuum robot great, and if it's not available it is a huge bummer.
