I think people forget with the Gretzky trade Carson was coming off a 55 goal season...and was still a teenager. He had scored 92 goals before he was 20. He then had a 49 goal/100 point season for the Oilers who stilled booed him because he wasn't Wayne. What his career might have been if not for having the burden of being the guy who was traded for Gretzky....

xXPyrophorusXx - Did see an interview at one time, Lindros didn't want to go to the Nordiques because they lack winning spirit. I was surprised with that comment, I always wondered what if he did stay with the Nordiques he might have gotten a chance at getting a Cup.

Kessel being traded to the pens, sure the leafs lost the trade, and lost alot in the reg season without him but they ended up benefiting from it since they got solid draft picks which got them guys like mitch marner, auston matthews and kasperi kapanen (kapanen was part of the trade but is still a solid prospect for the leafs young squad)

The leafs game 7 collapse against Boston. Without that devastating choke job by the leafs, they would have never blow up the team and they'd still have dion and kessel. There's no Mathews or Marner. They're stuck being mediocre, just barely competing for a playoff spot.
@xXPyrophorusXx
@xXPyrophorusXx 6 жыл бұрын
That's not exactly the way it happened. Because they even made the Playoffs, Nonis accelerated his "team building", which led to the Clarkson deal, and the destruction of the KGM line. There was still a lot of bad to come, before things got better. The collapse was horrendous, but they got there and had them on the ropes-that was considered a good thing. Thank about it, aside from the OT goals, what was bad about that series?

As an Oiler fan, I know the dynasty had to end at some point, especially with escalating salaries, and that the Oilers were a very small market team. If the Gretzky trade were a real hockey trade, then the team would have not been a dynasty but at least would have been watchable. I also think the southern expansion was a good thing, and that Gretzky leaving helped the league market the game better.

Quick comment on the goalie throat guards: They're really hot and taking a skate blade to the throat is considered a very rare thing. Doesn't mean that they shouldn't be worn, but a lot of players think the risk is so small that it's not worth it.

The greatest moments in hockey in recent times was the Summit Series in 1972 between Canada and the Soviet Union,it was the introduction of international hockey to the NHL,the merger of the WHA with the NHL in 1979,the NHL receiving the games greatest player ever into their league,Canada's winning of the Olympic gold medal at the Olympics for Canada's first win in fifty years in 2002,Pittsburgh saving their franchise by drafting Sidney Crosby in 2005,Edmonton drafting Connor McDavid in 2015 to return the Oilers to being a contending team once again and Toronto drafting Auston Matthews in 2016,bringing Toronto back to respectability and a player who could potentially be one of the greatest American hockey players ever. Bob.

There should be more neck guards in use. I remember a game between the Habs and Bruins, Roy was still in Montreal. A Bruins shot wound up going right at Roy's neck and his guard was in perfect placement for it.

I think the Roy Trade itself was a bigger deal than the Nordique's move. Just the whole build up to it. Tremblay getting the Head coaching gig right after he totally called out Roy on Radio Canada Saturday Night coverage. Then not pulling him on an other national coverage game and Roy just lost it... Back in the Forum there was no glass behind the Montreal Bench and Roy basically passed right in front of Tremblay and walked right up to the owners and asked for a trade. Then walked right back in front of Tremblay.... The whole thing was insane. As for Winnipeg going to AZ... Kind of ironic... Going from the Windiest coldest corner in Canada so bad infact that Stompin Tom had to write a song about her... To the Desert...

4-1 collapse vs Boston in 2013. Nonis blamed Reimer after that game by acquiring Bernier to fill to be the #1 which allowed for Reimer to play below standards and Bernier to collapse in his net over time. Shanny came along and saw this, said enough is enough, rebuilt. Bing bang boom, we're here.

Hm... in more resent years I would probably vote for introduction of the 3 on 3-play in OT. It was never bad after being implemented. However, as I remever the debate - people (and players) wasn't to happy about it before the season when it was introduced. Btw - "A Disneyteam?!" 😂 And a suggestion - could you talk about What necessary rule changes you'd like to see in the league to make it more fun/equal/Whatever.? Like if the coach's challenge on offsides should still be a part of the game, potentielly a new pointsystem etc.

So this will be controversial but in my opinion, the instigator rule is a best/worst. I started watching hockey in the mid-90s and originally I was drawn the enforcers / fighters - I know a lot about them, as far as who fought who, who beat who (in my era and a little bit about the era before). At the time, I started, guys were already complaining about the instigator rule ruining the game, Bettman ruining the game, ect. and I was right there with them. I'm not sure if age has given me perspective or what but I don't support fighting in the game to the level that I used too and now what we have learned about concussions and CTE I think it's fair to say that the league has curved fighting quite a bit. Enforcers were beginning to be monsters in proportions we haven't seen prior to, guys like Boogaard, Belak, McGrattan, S. McCarthy - behemoths like these dukeing it out, imagine if it progressed from there. I know that concussions are mostly caused by other events in hockey, elbows/shoulders to the head, getting rocked against the boards, pucks, the causes are numerous but one thing is for sure, getting punched in the face / head repeatedly isn't good for anyone's health. Yep, these guys were grown men and responsible for their choices and now, they are suing the hand that fed them because of those choices. Shannon, given your concussion lawsuit series, I'm shocked that this didn't make your list

The Malarchuk one was good but for me I always thought Hartford moving to Carolina was really sad. Can't remember who missed it but whoever missed the penalty shot for the Caps in the third overtime of a 4-overtime loss to the Penguins. As for a non-Caps worst moment I was cheering like hell for Toronto to make the cup final in 1993 against Gretzky's Kings and was heartbroken they lost Game 7 at home.

Before watching: Florida beating Pittsburgh in '96 (at least in hindsight)? At least according to Sean McIndoe's account of the story, that's what really what ushered in the Dead Puck Era, because as opposed to New Jersey who had good players, Florida took what was seen as a poorly-talented team past Pittsburgh with the trap,

The Nordiques won the Stanley Cup their first year in Denver (small correction) They would have won it without Roy. They had a ton of firepower and the best Defense in the league at that point. What if Lindros had gone to the team that drafted him just before that instead of being a punk b*^=•. That was the start of the the end for the Nordiques IMO.
