The lightsaber battle might have been flashy, and not historically accurate, but the most important question is...was it entertaining? In my personal opinion, yes, it was. The rest of the entries on this list are bad for more than just the inaccuracy in the sword techniques. They're just...cringey. Would I like more historically accurate sword fighting in movies? Hell yes. But my first and only criteria when I watch a movie is "Does this entertain me?" Unless it's based on a book I like, then there's "Is it accurate to the book?"

AlphaXTitania It's not like we don't appreciate that choreography can be entertaining even if it's not realistic, it's just that many of us didn't find those fights entertaining. Personally, I find if a sword fight is *too* unrealistic, then it just makes me unable to sustain any suspension of disbelief. If it's too unreasonable, as it is in the prequels, I simply can't enjoy it. That's probably why the prequel choreography is so polarising.

i tend to agree with the whole list. However, i actually liked the mustafar battle in episode 3. there were goofy parts and it was long, though it was split up by yoda's confrontation with the emperor. i thought the setting was cool, mirrored the tone of the fight and the turmoil inside anakin. had it's dumb and unrealistic parts, but i felt it was better choreographed than the episode 1 fight with darth maul.

I do agree about Samurai Cop. Those who have not seen it should. It is one of those movies that are so incredible bad that i can't help loving it. Its so bad you sit there watching it feeling amazed most of the time over how bad it really is. When you think there is no way it can get any worse you will get surprised. it shock you by getting just that EVEN worse :)

One thing to keep in mind about star wars lightsaber duels is that you are dealing with people that have a sixth sense. They are able to sense and anticipate future actions of their enemies. So the films are deliberately conveying that ability of premonition. That's how they are able to deflect blaster shots for instance. So it really is a fantasy reality.

You should a best and worst sword fights from the Highlander television series. Especially because of the variety of the swords used and the fighting styles from different time periods. Also from when Duncan went from long hair to short hair in the sixth season. I believe it cost him some of his power. On a side note, and I'm not making fun of your accent, but in the video when you mentioned the aluminum swords I swear it almost sounded like you were saying adamantium. When I first watched the video about Deathstalker I did a double take.

In America we do drop the second i. Also in Regards to Highlander. The 13th episode "Band of Brothers" is when the series really starts to hit its stride. And in that episode they are basically fighting on a giant pile of sulfur. And in the 100th episode of the series "Revelation 6:8" The main fight features some good sword vs axe action. The entire series is available on Hulu and they even have a lot of the behind the scenes interviews with the producer. He even goes into one of the p problems with trying to choreograph sword fighting scenes on a television show with people who have never picked up a sword in there lives.

Obi Wan RAISED Anakin. They sparred DAILY. There's no way in hell a fight between them would be anything but drawn out. They know each other like the back of their hands. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd and this was the ONLY fight in the entire Star Wars franchise (besides maybe the qui gon/maul/ obi wan fight) that made me go "OK, these really are supremely powerful individuals that have the force flowing through them and guiding their actions." I don't want to see realistic, it's fucking STAR WARS. I want to see over the top, borderline stupid shit because that's fun.

Only one I don't completely agree with is starwars, but mainly due to me thinking the lightsaber is meant to be used in a different way than a sword. You don't have to worry about edge alignment, and I'm pretty sure there's an odd weight to them compared to a sword. That being said, I will draw a full conclusion upon viewing your lightsaber video.

It was a fight between a boy and his mentor, and by the end I no longer felt the weight of what was truly at stake... just another bullshit crammed action scene for the sheer spectacle, as opposed to being a vessel for proper storytelling.
