Just keep it in mind that in early labor that it might make your cervix not match your contractions. Doesn’t mean that it’s going to affect overall how everything goes though! Good luck!

Wow! I just want to say thank you for this video. I completely forgot I had a leep procedure when I was in college. I didn't quite know what was happening but when you started to explain, it all came flooding back to me. I ended up with two c sections for failure to progress. I literally like "man, I felt the most intense contractions EVER" only to be told I'm in early labor. This explains a lot and I can wait to speak to my obgyn.

My due date was this past Saturday and I was 3 cm dilated at my last ob appointment, and I am hoping to be induced tomorrow or Wednesday.. and I just want to say THANK YOU so much for making this video. Currently 28 weeks pregnant with my second. I'm honestly really anxious about this birth. My first wasn't fantastic. First of all, I had a LEEP about 10 years ago. Secondly, I was induced with Piticon at 41w+5d. I had really been hoping for an unmedicated birth. It definitely didn't work out that way. I actually felt great for the first several hours. My nurses kept asking if I was feeling ok because I was having really intense contractions, supposedly, but I didn't feel very uncomfortable at all. This gave me hope. Well, I'm not even sure how many more hours had passed, but I guess I wasn't progressing, so my OBs recommend I have my water broken. I consented. I didn't know that having that done would make the pain of my contractions go from a 3-4 to a 10. I worked through it for a few hours, but it just got to be way too much, so I gave in and asked for an epidural. Well, after being in labor for 32+ hours, I just would not progress past 9cm, so I was given the option of a c-section. At that point, I was just so incredibly exhausted (and the epidural didn't really work, btw) that I didn't even care anymore. I just wanted my baby out of me. Additionally, when they broke my water, there was meconium, so they were a bit concerned about that too. Thankfully, baby was big and healthy. I was just so happy to finally be able to hold her. So, now I'm faced with the decision of trying for a VBAC or another c-section. I'd really like to have a vaginal birth, but I'm so worried that I won't progress and will end up with a c-section anyway. I already told my OB that I DO NOT want to he induced again. Being tethered to the bed for over 30 hours was hell. I just don't know what to do. 😭

Do a VBAC! You can do it! I just had mine on Thanksgiving and it felt so redemptive and I was so happy to have been able to do it! My first birth sounds so much like yours but I didn't get past 6-7cm. It's worth trying! My postpartum experience has been so much nicer, easier and less painful.

@@kinseyjohnson4341 I'm so happy you had a successful VBAC! ❤ Congratulations! Oh! And your baby shares a birthday with my grandma! 😊 I actually decided that yes, I wanted to try for a VBAC, but if I hadn't gone into labor by 40 weeks, we'd do a repeat c-section. My OB assured me that if I changed my mind about the c-section last minute, it was ok and they would cancel it. At 39+5 I began having pretty intense contractions about 11 minutes apart. I decided to take a bath and while I was in the tub, the contractions completely quit. 🙃 So, I did end up having another c-section at 40 weeks. I was just miserable. (And still nervous about trying for a VBAC, tbh.) Thankfully, my recovery was SO much easier this time. Baby just turned 3 months old and I (almost) feel completely back to normal. I hope you have a quick recovery and congratulations again!

I stalled arount 6/6.5 with my first and couldn't cope with the pain anymore as I had a rupture of the membranes to try to unstall the labour and I'd been in labour for over 24 hours at that time. I had to be transfered in an ambulance to the hospital to get the epidural, the trip unstalled the labour (either the ride or the fact that I relaxed knowing I would not be in pain anymore soon-ish?) and arrived at the hospital at an 8.5 so couldnt get the epidural and baby arrived about an hour later. Hoping to go unmedicated for this second (and probably last one), your videos had helped me heaps with my first nearly 2 years ago :)

4:11 this happened to me OMG, no C-SECTION needed. I had a great labor nurse she explained wonderfully! Had a baby after 14 hrs of labor, less than 30 minutes pushing

When I was in labor with my first child I stalled at two and a half centimeters, spent nearly the entire day like that. My obgyn came in to check my progress one last time and told me that if their wasnt any change soon we were going to end up having to do a c-section, (my little son was starting to have issues is one reason) she let me know as she was done to let her or one of the nurses know if I started to feel a fair amount of pressure down there. She was getting ready to walk out of the room to check on another patient when I had another contraction, with this on I felt something really strange and a ton of pressure I pointed this out and she checked me again and had hon from 2.5 centimeters to fully dialated and babies head being visible literally in the space of one contraction. (Yes I had an epidural)

My baby was in the sunny side up position, stalling my labor. I was stuck at 6.4-7 cm for so long. I wish I had nurses like you. My nurses were pretty hands off which has its pros and cons. I watched a bunch of your videos during pregnancy, but in the heat of it all forgot about half my tools. Labored for 26-27 hrs. Ended up with an epidural and vacuum assistance.

My experience was so similar! My baby was OP and I was in labor for 33 hours by the time she was delivered via C-section. My nurses were very hands off, and we didn't know she was in that position until it was time to push.

I stalled at 9.5cm and 90% effaced, with a stretchy cervix, for 4 hours before my C-section during my induction. We also found out my son was OP (sunny side up). My water had been broken for nearly 24hrs, and my epidural wore off. Thankfully my team said my chances of VBAC are very good, so I’ll be doing a few things differently next time.

Thank you for covering the first point about previous LEEP procedure. I had one but was told it shouldn't be an issue, and when I stalled out at 4cm, it wasn't mentioned as a possible factor. I ended up transferring from the birthing center to the hospital for an epidural because my contractions were getting very intense with no movement, and then I eventually had to have a c-section because my bae's head was turned. I ended up getting a bad post-op infection and had to be readmitted three weeks later for three days of intravenous antibiotics. Needless to say, it was not the birth I had planned!

I tried to stay mobile as long as possible in my labor but when I was finally put into a delivery room (it took them almost 6 hours for a covid test result) they couldnt get the mobile fetal monitor to stay in position and told me I would have to lay down so they could keep the monitors on. At that point I was only 5 cms and the thought of being forced to lay down through the contractions is what made me get the epidural. Laying down was unbearable hence why i had been walking around the room the entire time I was there. It was 22 hrs of labor and even woth the epidural we didnt progress as quickly as I woukd have liked. It was hours after the epidural and I had only progressed to 6 cm...i finally couldn't take it anymore and lwt the nurses break my water lol after that it onky took about 2 hours and I was ready to push. Then it was quick. 3 rounds of pushing and baby was out lol

Dilated to 4 cm and regular contractions and we headed into the hospital. But then everything slowed down and we got sent back home. 😢 so disappointing when we are so ready to meet this baby!

I was sent for an ungent induction due to undiagnosed preeclampsia (never had elevated blood pressure). I was having upper right quadrant pain and constantly vomiting. I was started on pitocin and magnesium. They used a Foley cath and maxed me on pitocin with little to no contractions and cervix making no changes. Foley removed at 2-3cm since no change was happening. Several hours go by with no changes. Dr does a sweep and breaks membranes. Epidural placed (false air in line errors leading to long periods of no pain control). Made it to 8cm after 2.5 days. 18 hours post water breaking, and 3 cervix checks (over 5 hr timeframe), no change. Dr was gonna give me an additional 1.5 hrs to change. Nurse upped my rotation to every 20 min with and without peanut ball. (Side note: epidural would wear completely off on the side facing up if longer than 20 min). At final cervix check, Dr decided I was too swollen to dialate to any further. Sent into C-section where it was discovered that bubs was sunny side up. 38w2d, 8 lbs, 21". He was sent to NICU a couple hours later for a week when fluid was found in his lungs.

My labor was so long! My water broke at home at 5:30am on Thursday morning, and when I checked into the hospital I was 3cm dilated. Fast forward to 1am the next day and I was only at 6cm. An internal pressure catheter was placed and we decided to start pitocin. I made it to 10cm by 11am on Friday, but didn't feel any urge to push, even with my epidural turned off. I pushed for 2.5 hours with no progress and eventually had a C-section. I was so exhausted, I welcomed the surgery in order to bring my baby into the world. It turns out she was OP! I wish I would have had a great nurse to help me with positions, but of course the department was short staffed and I was rarely checked on during my course. I wonder if I received better care if I could have had a vaginal delivery.

My labour was great for 28 hours and then my contractions stopped. Because my baby had reduced movements on occasions throughout my pregnancy I had to lay on my back on a bed and I swear this was part of the problem, they broke my waters, he was back to back, his chord was born first so they intervened by pushing him back and placed that back behind his head (awful!) then they used a get to help induce without telling me and then told me I had to be induced with a drip but they wouldn’t do it unless I had pain relief (I was fine with gas and air) - forced into so many things that I hated and some weren’t necessary, in the end I got up against advice and boom, labour kickstarted again. I removed the pain relief drip (I have experience in this) focused on swaying and breathing through it, tried my best to relax after all that happened and at hour 35 I began pushing at hour 37 he was born a minor graze, no tearing and only took 2 hours of pushing because I reacted super badly to the pain relief they gave me causing me to throw up constantly and my blood oxygen to drop. UK healthcare at its finest! They also wouldn’t look when I said he had a tongue tie, I ended up with severe mastitis and sepsis- he had his tie sorted at 4.5 months when they finally listened! Next time I’ll go with my gut a lot more and use time to help rather than their quick fixes unless absolutely necessary for the safety of baby or myself.

That's exactly what happened to me since I had a leep! Horrible contractions and 24 hours later only dilated 4 cm. The epidural and pitocin was the best decision. Dilated to 10 cm in 1.5 hour later and pushed my baby out safe and sound 😇

Had to do spinning babies moves at 9 cm cause baby was slightly turned. This was after 42 hours of labor and after magnesium had been started so my body felt like lead. No csection needed so I guess they worked but I’ll just say that i did not have a good time doing those moves

I never progressed pass 6 cm, and after 6 hours I started to regress. I had to have an emergency C-section to save her life and mine. I wish I could have progressed more. 😢 I was in labor for 3 days, but my water broke almost 24 hours before she was born.

Had my first baby last October. Was hospitalized for preeclampsia at 38 weeks and they decided to induce. They started on a Monday evening. By early Thursday morning after lots of the cervix suppository, breaking my water and max amount of pitocin, I'd only made it to 6 cm. So they decided to do a c section 😕 I was very disappointed. Basically obliterated my birth plan but better than the alternative. I'm guessing that they didn't do any of the aforementioned positions because I was on the magnesium sulfate and an epidural. Never considered that until just now 🤔

This video reminds me of my sisters birth story in Russia in the 90th, thats a separate horror story with no medication or pillowcases, they ended up making her walk in winter to the other building to c Section. After that one I am hesitant to have children lol

I'm currently in my 3rd trimester and my previous 2 labors were more than a decade ago. I never experienced a labor nurse try to help me with positioning or even offering to check the position of baby. With my first, I was pretty much left alone in the room, and with my second, after needing to leave the birth center to transfer to the hospital, the only thing my labor nurse ever had me do was lay on my side with oxygen. Are most nurses these days as helpful as you seem to be to your patients? I've been trying to find labor classes in my area to help with positioning and techniques to get through labor this time, but I'm not coming up with many affordable options. Do all L&D nurses know how to help patients with positioning etc to help labor progress?

In my experience it's hit or miss. Some are wonderful. As far as education for yourself, there are wonderful resources here on YT. Besides nurse Zabe, there are many wonderful content creators. Rewatch any videos you find helpful over and over

It seems that a lot of these reasons are medical interventions ! I definitely experienced the tension with my first and the epidural did help my body to relax but also caused so much more damage in other ways/areas. I hope to go all natural this time with my second.

Two of these things happen to me during my labor. Stalled out at 4 cm because I was in agony from the contractions. as soon as I got the epidural I progressed very well until 9 cm where I stalled again and stayed there for almost 12 hours. Unfortunately our son was rotated into the face first position and despite position changes we were not able to get him into a better position and I end up needing a c-section. Can't say we didn't give it the old college try 🤷

Personal choice - for me I definitely did NOT want a mirror. All natural labor and feeling it was enough for me, I didn't need to "see" it too. I also preferred to have my husband up by my head and not watching the process. To me it's not something he needs to view all up close and personal. But that's just my personal choice for me, my body, and our family/experience
