DUDE!! I have been searching for this foliage issue for DAYS! I posted on reddit, asked all around Discord. Found unanswered question posts after unanswered question posts on the support forums, left my own questions on there and eventually decided to just settle for raster shadows and use RT for everything else. Here I am watching your tutorials just to prep for rendering my scene and BOOM!!!! I screamed. Thank you so so much

thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. ... it's literally like getting a bunch of diamonds (all the hours, days, weeks and years you've spent testing and working compressed down into just the nuggets we need!). ... and aesthetically, I really admire and appreciate your work. it's amazing you're sharing both of those -- practical help plus beautiful art -- with us. more and more I just go straight to your channel - first & often!! ... after a year of off and on practice and hoping to make a very micro short film, this is the first time I actually feel like I can do it. I've been pretty sure what you're getting from UE was already possible, but somehow I couldn't sort it out myself. ... I appreciate you so much!

Hi, great video! One console command that I use a lot is "Stat UnitGraph" to check problems with framerates (GPU), hickups with particles or transparencies (Draw) or stalls on game code (Game). A small footnote about Console Command #4 is that UE4 creates new Projects/Templates with default settings to ignore r.maxFPS, the user needs to go to Project Settings > General Settings > Disable Smooth Frame Rate to enable the use of r.maxFPS. And I think you also need to Disable Use Fixed Frame Rate because it overrides the maxFPS command and perhaps that is why you got locked at 60fps too.

The last one I believe is raytracing-specific. If it has raytracing in the command name, then it is unlikely to be necessary/functional with GTX. Because you won't have raytracing enabled in your scene to begin with, so it's a moot point.

Great video, since your last video for movie render output queue console commands, has it changed at all for 4.26.1? I thought they changed some of the default settings or enhanced them in this version but when I look at the unreal engine docs etc they still seem to be the same. Looking to render with a 2070 rtxsuper, so not the greatest but I don’t mind waiting. I’m into purely cinematic not real time gameplay.
@WilliamFaucher3 жыл бұрын
I really don't know for sure what the the Movie Render Queue uses when it launches, I know for a fact it does tend to max out some of the default values in the Engine when it runs, but I don't know which ones. So when in doubt, just add the console to the command list to be on the safe side :) I work with a 2060 Super, so you're good to go!

I have! So that usually happens almost exclusively with the Skylight with cast raytraced shadows set to on. If you turn off your skylight, or disable raytraced shadows on the skylight exclusively, it should get rid of your wonky shadows :)

@WilliamFaucher3 жыл бұрын
So if you want the console command to affect your render, I recommend setting it up in the movie render queue, yes. If you just want it to affect your viewport, then you can simply enter it in the output log! Does that make sense?

@@WilliamFaucher Ok, but if I will set it for Viewport it will affect render too and it doesnt matter if I will use Sequencer or MRQ, is that correct? Thank you. K

No, setting it in viewport will not affect the render. If you want it in your render, you need to set it in the MRQ console variable tab, and in sequencer there's another way to do it. I believe I show people how to do it for sequencer in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paSroXWQaZyNnLc

As mentioned in the video just type in the command then a question mark afterward to get all the details about it. In this case, foliage.ForceLOD -1 will disable the foliage FOD, but if the number is set to be greater then or equal to zero, then it will force the foliage LOD to that level.

Temporal upsampling will not improve image quality if you aren't upscaling anything. And if you ARE upscaling, then it will dramatically improve the image quality of upscaling. Second, the screen percentage, I don't see the point in forcing it to 100. Why not expose it as an option to the user? And anything below 100 should always be using temporal upsampling, otherwise you will get very, very poor upscaling quality. This video seems to be focused on using UE4 as a rendering tool instead of a game engine, which is fine, but you should be more clear about that. Most of your "must use" console commands are terrible for games.
@WilliamFaucher3 жыл бұрын
The Temporal upsampling absolutely made a huge difference back in4.26, even if you didn’t manually use upsampling, it did by default, under the hood. Epic was made aware of it and fixed it in 4.27. ScreenPercentage 100 is default. Setting it to 200 like I mention here will get crisper results. And yes, this is for rendering, it says exactly that in the video thumbnail :) This entire channel revolves around cinematics, not game design.
