Stephen Hoshal 0 seconds ago I have all kinds of handguns rifles and shotguns. As a firearm CPL owner you must and I mean must understand the firearm you are using. I am very sorry that most CPL Licences holders do not and I mean do not have enough training in firearm usage. Instructors spend a hell a of lot talking about the law and very little training of the students in their class about firearm usage and defense training procedures. I am sorry to say these instructors should have a lease a week or two training in getting to know firearms as well as defense training situations.

I've had a Mauser action 30-06 go off by itself. I was being shown by my dad how when the safety was folded all the way over the rifle can't fire. He had me pull the trigger gently showing how the safety work's.Little while later still sitting together in a box blind he was getting ready to shoot folded the safety into the fire position and it the rifle immediately went off through the tin roof. I was 8 at the time, we were both confused as to why it happened! He loved that rifle because of how extremely accurate it was, but he took it and sold it to a friend of his who was a gunsmith that next week.

I remember back in '86 we were using blanks in our M16-A2s during a training exercise. At the end, everyone was supposed to be unloaded. We went to "order arms" and the butt-plate of one of the private's rifle hit the deck hard enough to discharge the round. Note: the ammo was supposed to be all used up and we were about to go through "inspection arms" to verify everyone was unloaded. The NCOs made sure that private was not a "happy camper" after that. It's standard procedure to talk trash about Glock when Sig is probably paying or offering free ammo or something etc.. The fact is a Glock has more straightforward and effective internal safety than most other guns.. no fully precocked striker and the safety ledge requiring the trigger to move, which isn't gonna happen on its own when needing to put more tension on the striker during the pull. The last 500 rounds or so I ran on one of my G19's I didn't even realize the extractor had no spring tension on it making it hardly effective (due to RMR screw being too long trapping plunger) so I was stovepiping a lot. Despite that non functioning extractor the gun was still running whole mags at times and only failed to eject maybe 1 out of 10 shots. I was about to start trash talking the gun before realizing I was actually the dumbass and the gun was working better than it should have. Such situations where failures occur are going to be more easily spread around through the pistol owning world simply because of how many people own Glocks, and how many people take advantage of all the ways they can lego parts on their Glocks. People can be right all day if they say other guns are simply higher quality when it comes to the slide cuts or the frame design or the fitment given tolerances etc.. they start talking that real nonsense though when they start claiming Glocks are just inherently unsafe for the user and are prone to malfunction. If that were true then nobody would own any damn Glocks.

A Det from 79 pct NYPD had a AD that resulted in his fatal injury while cleaning the Glock years ago. There was a second officer that also had an AD that resulted in a fatal injury while preparing to clean their Glock around the same time, just weeks apart. Mistake done was that the slide was pulled back first , then the magazine removed. The officer mistakenly cycled a live round . When they pulled the trigger to remove the slide, both officers shot themselves in the thigh severing the femoral artery. A sobering reminder to be aware of where that muzzle is pointing at. I believe the Remington 700 recall began with the adoption of the Xmark pro trigger. Starting in 2006 and up to 2015. I have four Remington 700s, only one of which falls in the recall period. I replaced the trigger on that rifle, not because I felt it was unsafe, but because I didn't like the feel of the trigger. My oldest 700 I've had since I was 11, I was deer hunting with it when I was 13-15 (I'm 33 now) and I stepped in a groundhog hole. I fell hard, and remembered being worried that the scope was affected. My cousin came to check on me and he scolded me because the safety wasn't on. Since then I've had confidence in my 700 rifle not going off unexpectedly. (My then teenage mind has matured and reexamined the firearms safety philosophy of using a guns safety, but that it is no substitute for common sense gun handling. Moral of the story is I've used that rifle for now 20+ years and it's traveled with me through all sorts of conditions and not once have I had an accidental discharge)

Thanks for the info. I bought one in the early 70’s, after the law suit I became worried. I started drop testing it annually, prior to hunting season. In the 90’s I adjusted the trigger pull to 3 pounds, and could not see anything that could go wrong with it. It’s a tack driver, sub 3/8” at 100 yds. I never heard about which rifles were affected. Glad to know it wasn’t mine.

Dad was an extreme marksman and really didn't like any semi autos and when he got back from WW2 he bought a 357 mag and ordered a K frame 22. He never had a handgun before his service , but nobody out shot him at any range and even squirrel hunted with the 22 and I never saw him miss. He had an issue about anyone calling his revolver a pistol , even the police. He was in charge of a special gun squad and promoted by Patton and his officers. He turned down the Thompson and was either given a 1911 or picked one up . He was sent to Bastogne and made it within a day of breaking the line. So I guess he had to like semiautomatics because between his M1 and 1911 he would never have survived. I heard stories about the M1 but rarely about the 1911, but I know how he learned how to hit squirrels so well . My uncle's probably knew why 😎

I bought a new Remington 700 BDL .30-06 back in 1978. After using it exclusively for many successful hunts I went on to other guns and it sat cleaned, but unused for many years. About three years ago I took it out of the gun safe for an upcoming hog hunt after it had sat unused for several years. Sitting in my den I was working the action and safety with the gun unloaded and cleared and had several instances of the firing pin dropping when I took the safety off. I squirted several drops of a modern “zero friction” lubricant down into the trigger mechanism and the problem went away, so I think the problem was being caused by very old and hardened original gun grease. While I could never cause the mechanism to fail again I worried that it could come back, so I replaced it with a Timney Elite Hunter trigger. Big improvement. BTW, I made a one shot kill on a nice boar on that hunt.

My brother bought a SKS from a gun show that was still coated in I think it is called cosmoline, the old grease was almost like a tar, without cleaning the weapon he then loaded it and the gun fired fully auto for 2 1/2 full clips and then fired normally. I cleaned the gun myself afterwards. the reason for the erratic auto fire was the firing pin was stuck in the forward position in the bolt therefore firing the gun with out recycling to the latch condition that normally makes it semi auto.

I have never had any issues with my Remington 700 BDL I bought new in around 1980, but see a comment that makes good sense. couple issues: 1. I can't think of a single commercially available firearm that is "more dangerous to the operator than whoever is on the receiving end of the barrel" Not a single one. An accidental discharge is dangerous, sure, but rare... a malfunction even more so... and that discharge hitting someone, more so... so it's statistics.... the risk to the operator is relatively low even with a gun like the p320 but being on the receiving end of a gun when fired by it's operator, usually ends badly... often fatally. -- 2. "Glocks don't have a single external manual safety" As you show an image of the trigger safety... that is clearly visible externally and is manually operated. The phrase you were looking for is "Glocks don't have traditional manual safety levers"

Wrong on two counts. Comparing a revolver to a pistol is ridiculous if you've ever shot both. A better comparison is it's like carrying a Blackhawk with the hammer back!. In fact, I checked my Ruger Maxx 9, (which does have a mechanical safety but the " pro" model doesn't) against my Blackhawk and the trigger pull is very similar. Something Noone considers is that if you are somehow disarmed, the time the crackhead spends trying to figure out your gun might save your life. There are several instances of this with cops. As far as the 700 trigger, Hell, they fire at safety off pretty regularly. You don't have to alter it. There was a recall for a reason. Having said that, I've found petrified grease to be the culprit several times. Just take a good cleaning. All 600 models with gold trigger will fire at safety off, too. As far as the glock is concerned, that’s why you train!! If you train properly and exercise the safety measures backed by proper training, you will never have a problem. There is not a design flaw with them.

I won't carry a pistol without a manual safety, titanium firing pin, and some sort of firing pin lock/block. Flipping a safety is easily incorporated into ones battery of arms. A comp or range gun and carry gun are 2 totally different things,. A quality holster makes all the difference and makes a pistol w internal safeties basically as safe as anything.

A Glock has 5 different safeties. It cant fire unless the trigger is pulled. You can throw it against a cement wall as hard as you could and it will not fire.

For me it’s second nature. I started out decades ago carrying and shooting the 1911 and it’s second nature to swipe the safety. I do have several guns without manual safeties but two of the three I carry most often have them and the other one is a revolver.

Pretty sure every "defective trigger" on the Remington 700 was found to have been altered into an unsafe manner. At least that's what I remember hearing about it.

Yup. There is always those that are " shade tree gunsmiths", that have NO knowledge of what they're doing, and Remington triggers have those screws, that some people just can't leave alone.

There are a lot of modern rifles and shotguns that can fire when you drop them hard enough on the buttstock. The problem with the faulty 700's is the ND might not happen when you drop it. It could occur later, when you took the safety off. Imagine police sniper aiming at people, and the rifle goes off when he flips the safety.

I disagree with the information on the P320. The disconnector implementation, a lighter trigger, sear and safety lever have resolved this issue as part of the Voluntary Upgrade Program. I would bet the continuous complaints are related to ND's. Just my $0.02 but I have seen this upgraded firearm tested in many different ways and it just doesn't fire without the trigger being pulled intentionally anymore.

I carried a Walther PPK/S for years. Got so comfortable with it I would forget it was there. Carried it in an appendix holster. I went to Macy's to buy new pants and took a pair in the fitting room to try on. Undid my belt and went to change and out came my Walther. Hit the floor hammer first. I always have one in the tube, useless if you don't. I watched it fall and was staring down the barrel when it hit the floor. Took a split second. The safety was on and it did not fire. Thank god for that. The fall made a nice dent in the knurling on the hammer. I love that little 380 and when I take it out I rub that dent on the hammer for good luck. The Walther positive hammer safety saved my ass.

Glock 17 isn't dangerous it has two internal safeties, it's the user that make the striker fire type pistols dangerous, it called incompetence. A lot of accidental discharges with Glocks were police officer, again incompetence and lack of training. Want to see a real dangerous pistol? Check out the Japanese NAMBU T94.

I don’t have a problem with Glocks . Must say it sounds like a computer generated voice in this video . This video states Glocks triggers have a 5 lb pull . Both my Gen 4 Glocks are NOWHERE near Five pounds . I’d say more like 10 to 12 pounds. And it’s impossible for it to go off if you don’t have a bullet in the chamber . Glock should not be on this list . Any gun is extremely dangerous in the hands of an idiot that doesn’t practice safe handling of firearms .

Interesting review. Up until very recently, I owned several Sig Sauer P320 variants. I really liked each of my P320 variants. I hoped that the fix that Sig Sauer made with the voluntary recall and the newer pistols solved the problem once and for all. However, I continue to read about and see where P320s continue to discharge a round without pulling the trigger. Most recently, I watched a video on KZbin of a Police Department in Connecticut I believe. The P320 appeared to be securely in the Police Officer's holster, and the Police Officer's hand was clearly not touching the pistol, and it went off by itself. I decided it was time to trade-in my P320s for a Staccato 2011 C2 model.

Officer Doughnut did not have his pistol properly holstered. While armed, he tried to help move a detainee that was resisting, he pulled his buddie's belt, into his own holster, seating the pistol and causing the discharge when the movement caused some obstruction to manipulate the trigger.
