This is very true, but, to be fair, the common person doesn't really know much about storyboarding. It's just not something you'd think to investigate unless you were interested in something like cinematography or maybe comic book production.

Oh, now we both know that's not how humans work lol People are stupid - some more than others - and youtube's a platform built on making your voice heard for better or worse. Thank you for this video. Nagamine is such a great entry among storyboarders. As for my choice, I'm gonna pick episode 95 (obvious, but still): I love Shida's storyboards, because they have a solid personality and identity. That scene on the 1st half of Freezer's Death Beams piercing through demonstrated the embodiment of Shida inside key animation. Simply spectacular. Besides, closeups look really deep and so effective.

to those coming back here for a visit after 4 months quick little surprise here: pay attention to episode 94 when Goku is shadow boxing outside Baba's place, It is almost a 1:1 reenactment of his fight with grandpa Gohan back in Dragon ball during the "fortune teller Baba" saga, Just goes to show how amazing Masato Mitsuka is at displaying emotion through subtle very easy to miss key moments and really develops Goku's character to those who say he doesn't care about any of his family.

I think 43 also had pretty good storyboarding. The way they convey Goku's struggle with his ki control in the beginning of the episode, showing him flying from his point of view right before he crashes into his house, it's well done. It really shows how out of control he is in that scene, much more than any third-party point of view would be able to. And later on with Pan in space they do the same trick, showing her reaching to the stars from Pan's point of view. It's subtle but I think it works really well.

That was a great video, there are episodes I definetely missed and might check out because I tuned in and out of Super before this arc honestly. My favorite episodes are 86, Goku vs Android 17, I really love how much the far off shots are used so the loose animation comes in with full force, I love the focus on nature and how the fight affects it. At the same time, the first of the two episodes in which Hit assassinates Goku, I think it had a lot of interesting ideas in how it shows Goku meditating, the planet that Hit visits and where he murders some dude, I think it had a lot of interesting shots, it was a very memorable episode for me. And out of what you mentieoned, I definetely think Krillin and Goku's episode is among the best.

Episode 94 was quite the highlight for me when I first watched DBS… especially after people pointed out that Goku was reenacting his fight with Grandpa Gohan from Dragon Ball before Frieza arrived to FortunetellerBaba’s place.

If I had to include a storyboard that you didn't, I would have to go with 95, I think it very well depicted freeza's character and had some pretty cool angles, and I think the animation complimented it extremely well, I love the scene near the beginning where Freeza's beam is going through several of the assassins

@AnimeAjay Hi, when it comes to dragon ball Z, there are scenes that I still get goosebumps when watching them. The fight with Frieza, not Goku vs Frieza, but Frieza facing Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo. There were frames that are great enough to inform us that Frieza's last form, even though he was much smaller than his previous transformations, is to be really feared. Followed by Vegeta's death. A perfect scene that showed that Vegeta never abandoned his faith in Saiyans even when he was covered with his own blood. We also have the portraying of Frieza's return after the Genkidama, similar to Cell's return from his suicidal explosion. Great animation and amazing storyboards.

I've always wanted to see a video on storyboards, it's a really overlooked factor so I'm glad this is out. I'd love to see even more videos on storyboarding or a top 5 dragon ball super art video. I'd love to see a video on the manga or the manga panels/storyboarding. Even anime vs manga/differences would be neat.

His action scenes have become much better follow Toriyama's input about angles but overall even before I think he makes such good fight scenes. I've been following you since 5k, you make such high quality stuff I love to see your videos man. I really like this, everyone always talks about animation but they rarely talk about the other components that help bring an episode to life. Good storyboarding can help elevate an episode with average animation to something greater. Any other topics you have in mind besides animation and storyboarding?

Interesting video. Great examples, they've done many interesting things in super. In general I don't know what they are doing with the framing, the shots are often too zoomed in, cutting parts of the characters and the action is so quick and there's so little frames that there's a lot of blips, moments the action occurs so fast that we can't either see what happen nor appreciate the animation or lack there of.

Some of the ones featured here were bought at auction by friends. I personally have episode 16's board,, I've just been too lazy to scan it. The others came from the booklets that come with Super's Blu-rays in Japan.
