Top 5 Favourite Uneven Bars Routines

If you have a different set of favourite routines to me that you feel strongly about, why not go make your own video.
Gymnasts who came close in no particular order include Ivana Hong, Lu Li, Nastia Liukin, Aliya Mustafina, Liu Xuan, Bi Wenjing, Kim Gwang Suk, Li Ya, He Kexin and Huang Quishuang.

I prefer the older routines when the bars were closer together and they could do wraps and more intricate things between the bars.

They became illegal due to injury's and it could be very dangerous to perform those stunts

eramgr11 Agreed. The dismounts were beautiful but I like the fluidity of flight of the newer routines. The low bar being so close in the old routines seem so.. disruptive. Because they can’t swing their legs freely.

That Komova routine was absolute gold

It did earn gold in that instance- and for good reason. I just wish- especially after the 2012 games she could have gone to Rio and had a second shot. Her bars were even better by then, the true gold standard.

May have looked cool but was substantially more dangerous- which is why they changed it. Many girls were left infertile and with lifelong issues due to those routines.

My favorite bar routine is probably Olga Korbut's. All of the routines here are spectacular too though!

the only one missing was the iconic one of Olga Korbut back in 1972.

The bars originally were set really close together (they were like parallel bars in mens gymnastics, but at different heights, so really close initially). Gradually the federation in charge of gymnastics changed the regulations, widening the gap over the years, because it meant they could see more giant swings (a swing around the bars where the gymnast is fully extended) and big release moves. It also meant the women could bring a lot of moves from mens high bar over to uneven bars. :)

That is exactly the problem for me: women routines are too similar to men routines on fixed bar. It becomes less creative. When the bars were closer we see more movement between the bars.

@d2d4e6 because the dificulty gives you a more possible chance of getting a high score! The vault she did was 2 1/2 twisting which is worth 6.5 dificulty! So if she did a perfect vault her score would be 16.500!

@stargaze17 They weren't all the routines I would have liked to have use (I wanted Mo Huilans '95 AA - unsure of score - , Khorkinas 2000 EF 9.862 and Yang Yilins 2008 EF, 16.65), as I had to avoid using NBC coverage. Regardless the scores were 15.733 for Komova, 9.8 for Mo Huilan 96 AA , 10 for Ma Yanhong, 9.750 for Khorkina Athens Qual, and a 16.8 for Yang Yilins TF routine for all the routines shown here. Hard to compare cause they're all from different codes though.

Yeah, it sad how empty the athens area was at some points during the gymnastics. Many people also missed some superb Chinese bar and beam routines in the qualifying.

Shows why these countries were the top leaders for decades. Until recent decades the top gymnasts were East German, Romanian, Soviets, Chinese,and Japanese. These girls showed why Eastern European and Asian countries topped the leader boards at almost every international competition including the Olympics !

I wish she’d gotten to Rio, her bars were even better by then. In London the best she’d scored was a 15.7 something so I’m not sure she’d have won gold even without the two on the low bar. We’ll never know unfortunately.

Well said. Taste is subjective. I prefer UPB workers such as Tweddle who do interesting moves rather than the more 'difficult' routines according to the judging code. I find endless giants and the scant attention given to the lower bar tedious but I'm too technologically dim to make my own KZbin clips so thank you bernardmvella and others for taking the time to upload this stuff!
