I lost 2k worth of gear yesterday because of a rouge wave, that is my worst fail of 2020.

We were rockfishing at the bottom of the cliff with some friends. The swell was awful (around 10 feet) and the clarity was the worst I've ever seen (it was like 3 inches) so we went crabbing and weren't handling half the rods we set out. We thought our gear was high enough, but two rouge waves (15 feet and 20 feet) swell took 4 rods, and two backpacks both of them having around 150$ worth of tackle in there, and one of them having airpods, and an Iphone X. We also lost all of our crab. Luckily we got the phone/airpod backpack back and 3 rods back due to sheer luck (like two of them the line was snagged on the rocks), but one friend lost a 300$ combo and all of his gear. We are lucky that no one got seriously hurt, a guy with me tripped and got soaked by the first wave, if he had stayed on the ground when the second wave came in, he would have been swept away for sure. And we are incredibly lucky that we got 3 rods back, and the phone/airpods still worked fine.

That is both incredibly lucky and unlucky at the same time. I had a similar thing happened and it broke the window.
