I don't think I will ever make electronic music because for me, a classical musician, everything seems so scary and I don't even have a computer to start doing something, but it won't stop me from watching your videos, they're so interesting

The computer is a completely different instrument, no doubt.

This hilarious to me bc even though I got into making music on a computer bc of rap and electronic… I’ve ended up composing classical pieces and use so much of what I’ve learned from classical composers. In the beginning it seemed so much for feasible than learning an instrument and even worse having to record live stuff. In other words if you find this interesting, you should definitely give it a try.

I suppose when talking about frequency ranges to boost in order to bring out certain elements of the amen, it really varies depending on the pitch (speed) you're playing the amen. Really isnt a catch all. I've always found the amen difficult to mix properly because there's such a big freq range too it. Great video as ever man!
@final_animal Жыл бұрын
For sure, it's a useful guide though to demonstrate what this kind of EQ technique can do to a break in general. I didn't know I could/should EQ this many points on a drum break to get that kind of sound, so while it doesn't apply to other pitches, the technique is the helpful inspiration.

Have you ever tried using reduction of the frequencies you want less of instead, in order to essentially achieve same eq shape? In school for audio engineering they always told us that removal of frequencies is better because it introduces less distortion, so I'm curious if you could get a desirable sound that way, or if the distortion is an important feature (as I suspect).
@STRANJAH25 күн бұрын
Interesting question and there is no black and white answer to it. To start, yes, cutting is always better than boosting, but sometimes you don't want to lose too much of another frequency range, just to have another sound louder. Do you really want zero bass, or hollow mids, just to get more sparkly and bright highs? I think like everything, it is all about finding a happy middle ground. Try cutting first, remove anything you know what you do away with, without detrimentally affected the sound, then boost moderately around that, to bring out anything you want more of, after you have already cut. Do both, not just a brute forcing of either cutting, or boosting only. As for distortion, yes, this is a very important part of the sound, but how you achieve distortion is also key. You don't want distortion added in a wrong way, because you did the wrong thing (like boosting too much, as you mentioned), but tastefully with a respected process like a soft clipper, or a dedicated saturation/distortion plugin, you can bring life, grit and bite to otherwise lifeless sounds.
