A spotting scope is definitely a great gift too! I got a vortex diamondback spotting scope based on one of your videos and its been wonderful for hawk watching and also viewing closer birds in great detail! Also, THE GULL GUIDE! Its freshly minted too so maybe a gull loving birder won't have it yet!

You forgot about Opticron. Weren’t they at the Rio Grande Birding Festival? I have a pair of the Opticron Oregon 8x42’s that are pretty darn good for the price. The Opticron Aurora 8x42’s are at the top of my list for my next pair of binoculars. Cheers!

Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR is also starting to get cooler temperatures from the 30 C down to 20 C and is making bird watching more and more difficult, except for local birds like Eurasian Sparrows, Spotted Doves, and Oriental Magpies and local shore birds like Chinese Egrets.

Late comment, but do you feel metal or plastic smart bird feeders would be best for colder places and hold up to elements better?

Metal will hold up better in the long term. I’ve heard some people have concerns about bird’s feet getting stuck to the metal, like if they are in a bird bath and then go to it but I haven’t heard any cases of that actually happening
